$147 including tax for all those hoses.

I would get AN (and other) reusable fittings from summit racing and hose. Build my own, like I have done for rods and race cars way back. Keeping some hose and a few common fittings with me, just in case. So I can make a hose on the road. Cheaper? Not really, but flexible.

Man I'm getting the fever for an old antique GM bus. I remember seeing the fugitive get off the bus the first of the program and get back on a bus and leave out at the end of the episode. I've always enjoyed the sound of the two-stroke diesels. Used to see quite a few of these pull in to fuel at the truck stops when I went to California and I'd have to go talk to the owner if I could. I really am glad I discovered your channel and really enjoy the videos. Man I've got the hots for one of these. 🇺🇸👍

I was the head hose maker at the Napa store that i used to work at back in the day, it was really something of a stress reliever for me. I once spent a whole day back in the hose room cleaning it up and organizing all of the fittings, it was a complete nightmare. After that? I got on people's cases for not putting things back after pulling them from the drawers and bin's.

Samuel Samsonian big EMD locomotives used basically the same design scaled way up. Think of instead of an 8v71 having a 16v710. That’s 11,360 cubic inches of 2-stroke GM diesel goodness. The turbo charged versions of those sound absolutely amazing. A rumble that will move your soul.

When I worked for the railroad we used to shut the down once per month for maintenance. Since I retired the railroads both GE and EMD have gone from a 30 day maintenance schedule to 90 days and with computerized locomotives today when the locomotive is isolated on the control panel shut themselves down so long as air pressure and engine temperature are maintained to operating norms will restart themselves as necessary to maintain air and temperature.
Horsepower is from 1000 to 4500 horsepower. Bot GE and EMD do it the same.

I don't like using gloves either. My hands will sweat enough to cause the sweat to run down my arms and somehow end up in my face. But they do a great job of keeping that grease out from underneath my fingernails, and the cuticles. I am very irritated by the grown in dirt under my nails etc. Several days excavating each nail with a good knife after a job is common.I find the old non-pumice style hand cleaner like stay lube was to be the overall best for breaking down that tough to get to grease and grime. Hat's off to your wife for doing such a good job with the camera.

Another little tip - ALWAYS plug the oil drain holes that are right beside the ends of the Injector rack - if you drop one of those little screws your day is going to hell - it will head right into the engine and it will have to be retrieved... also on those old machines that ur unsure of always change out the restricted fitting in end of the head on the fuel return side - if it is washed out u will have low fuel pressure and therefore low power... I'd run something like a gallon of marvel mystery oil per fuel tank to give the fuel some more lubriciticy... fuel has changed since those injectors were put in use...

My old 30 foot motor home had an electric fuel pump that pushed gasoline from the rear tank to the 454 engine up front. The engine had the old mechanical fuel pump. While on a family vacation, the engine started chugging so we limped it back home. The shop discovered a blown fuse on the electric fuel pump that was causing the engine to starve for fuel. Had I known about the minor fuse problem, we would have fixed it and continued our vacation. Live and learn.

Tell your fuel lines can be a pain in the butt. My motorhome had a CAT engine in it and it uses a mechanical fuel pump the problem was as it was all vacuum from the tank were no pressure l until the injector pump head. The fuel line was hard to find because it was designed to be rigid and not collapse under vacuum and it was very expensive when we finally found enough to do the entire motorhome

Have you considered instead of running idiot lights to the dash (I know you said you weren’t) for the new fuel filter to just install idiot lights next to the fuel filter? I know you’ll have the engine running at times while at the back of the buss. That way occasionally you would see if you had any fuel system problems if the lights were on while servicing in the engine compartment.
