Okay, so for anyone in the future reading this, I want to offer some quick advice. I would go ahead and change your PS2 address to static preemptively, I tried following the video to the T, and my network would not update saying the PS2 was connected until I changed that setting in OPL earlier than he did. I would also make sure that you have OPL open the whole time so that the connection actually shows up, because mine doesn’t show up till I launch OPL. I was pulling my hair out trying to understand why my connection didn’t pop up on the screen like his did, but now I understand having OPL open and changing it to static helped it show up. Hope this helps someone, good luck if you’re struggling.

Word of warning: SMB1 is more than 30 years old and is a massive security risk. Microsoft has a post on their storage blog titled "Stop using SMB1" if you want to want to learn more. This is not something you want running on your main PC.
@@iStrong113 Keyword here is "main PC". There's stuff like psx-pi-smb that will turn a Raspberry Pi into a game server. Rather than connecting it to your network, it plugs straight into your PS2.
RetroNAS is another option that runs on PC hardware.
Finally, lots of old routers have USB ports for file sharing. You could plug your PS2 straight into one of one of those to avoid SMB1 traffic on your real home network.
Also, I don't know if they work well, but you can buy SATA versions of the HDD Adapter on Aliexpress.

I use psx-pi-smbshare myself. Main benefit is you avoid the FAT32 file size limit. That said, I am thinking about switching to RetroNAS running in a VM.

Another great video. Glad I Subscribed. I followed this video today. It is working really well. It fixes the USB game lagging problem.
I followed your instruction to the letter and it worked. One thing though, i used freshly bought FCMB card. It had ETH settings turned off so when i connected with cable to laptop nothing happened. You have to turn this option on on console so you can edit IP in PC.

Laptop needs to be on all the time
But you can select an option to "turn of the screen when i press power button" in windows settings,
By this you can let your screen be off and let laptop keep processing

When you connect console to router(via cable) and den pc to router (wireless) you should be careful while giving out the IP address , DNS address and so on

Hey bro, are you using a regular Ethernet Cable or a Ethernet Crossover Cable?
how do you make it work with a ethernet to usb, I cant get my computer to recognize the ethernet port has anything plugged in.
When we just turn in the PS2 which is connected to the pc via a ethernet cable , the pc immediately detects an device connected

How to install SMB on windows 7?
Any reason why only half the PS2 and 1/3 of PS1 games would appear but not the rest? All are visible on the share from another PC and named correctly for OPL. Those appearing in OPL play fine. Just missing several games present within the shared folder. The refresh button in OPL doesn’t seem to do anything.

Did you just use a normal ethernet cable designated for the use of Internet connection? Or did you use a crossover cable. Please answer I need to confirm this.
Sadly that seems to be only for the ps2 slim cuz the fat ps2 needs a network adapter which I don't have

I can't get it to work. My PC is connected to my router wirelessly and I connected the PS2 via Ethernet cable to my PC. I bridged a connection between the two and followed your steps but OPL says it cannot connect to the SMB server. Do you have any idea what I must do differently when my PC uses WLAN?
Well,
There can be few reasons for "cannot connect to smb server"
Few of the reasons might be
-folder hasn't been set to be shared
-ip address can be different (couse your wireless router right)
-windows smb feature not enabled
-and less likely due to dns address
-ps2 not able to contact the router
It might be one of those problems

Nice video man, keep it up. I’ve got a question tho. Does this work for the PS2 fat model? I know you’ve got to have that adapter that hooks too the back of the fat model with the built in Ethernet port.
Yes you need an adapter in order for the method to work
If you have the fat one, I would just use the HDD Port of the adapter. No need to connect ethernet or some stuff.

I just subscribed to your channel, I'm hoping you'd create your own tutorial about this whole SMB PS2 w/o router thing since not a lot of people are aware of this and not a lot of TH-camrs makes tutorials about it specifically about SMB aside from this one here.
For this to work should my ps2 slim should be moded
It might work, I have updated the files with a new folder called "freedvdboot" , try using freedvdboot
This method should work on most of the PS2 slim models and almost all fat PS2 models
And usually , most of the PS2 will have Modchip installed, which will increase the chances of working more effectively
I keep getting error 300/301, not able to connect to SMB server... so sad.
