I found that turning SMB off and on through the 'turn Windows features on/off' menu, then restarting my PC, fixes the issue and my PS2 can connect to the server afterwards. Figured I'd post that here in case anyone else ever has the problem.
This helps, thanks! I was having to unplug my hard drive and load it into a cage to swap games. Using USB drives is TERRIBLE from my testing due to its USB 1.1 slow protocol.
Thanks so much for your tutorial, it was eminently helpful. I can't help but point this out: it's "octet", rather than "octave", since it refers to a group of 8 binary digits, e.g., 255 is 11111111.

1. You don't need a static IP at your PS2 2. When you give your PC a static IP I would highly recommend an address outside of the DHCP pool of your router. If you choose an address inside the DHCP pool like shown in the video chances are that your router will give the same address to a second device. That could lead to serious network problems
Most routers wouldn't double assign an IP at most you would only have this issue if you had statically assigned the same IP to my multiple devices causes IP colission Your first point may be correct
@@Dorkalicious the router would assign the ip to a second device if the lease runs out. Hi! I would like to know if there is a way to play a ps2 fighting game that doesn't have netplay features (Like COD1, COD2, COD3, etc.) online with another player using ps2 as well?
Having some issues getting this to work. My PS 2 is connected to a ethernet switch and so is my PC. They both use it to connect to my router. Would having them on the same switch give priority to a direct connection between them, ignoring the router? I'm able to ping my PS2 from my PC but when I try to connect from my PS2 I get Error 303: Cannot open SMB share.
make sure your password, and share name are correct, long as they are on the same subnet they should be able to see each other. the fact you can ping it would seem to indicate they are on the same network so its got to be a minor setting. make sure you alot enabled the smb 1,0 thing i mentioned in windows
@@Dorkalicious Managed to get it to work. I have no idea what fixed it but I had a IDE laying around so I formatted that through UlaunchElf (WinHiip was giving me issues) and just plugged it in with the network adapter instead of having it plugged in empty. I also renamed my ISOs. So if I had Katamari Damacy (USA).iso I'd rename it to SLUS_210.08.KATAMARI DAMACY.ISO. I had to mount the iso, look inside for the SLUS file name then unmount. Finally I looked at network settings in UlaunchElf browser and my PS2's ip did not match my ip in OPL so I changed that. And finally it worked.
good question, I’ve read that network is faster than DVD which is faster than USB. An internal hdd on a ps2 fat is probably the faster option of them all.
Has anyone tried this with an nvidia shield as the server instead of a PC? Also, do the folders have to be at the top level of the share? Or can they be in a subdirectory. eg. \\ip address\sharename vidia_shield\DVD ?

Tried doing the same stuff for my DS218+ but to no avail. I feel like i hit all the same settings. Dont know if you know how to do it through a NAS but would really appreciate it.

I can't get it to work can anyone help?
I get cannot connect to smb server
Can I do this on an Japanese region PS2?
Futaba
Futaba is best girl
I keep getting error "310: no network connection"
Plug ps2 to router
@@Austeja608 yeah I did that and tested every cable, I'm pretty sure my ps2's lan port just doesn't work :(
Hi! I would like to know if there is a way to play a ps2 fighting game that doesn't have netplay features (Like COD1, COD2, COD3, etc.) online with another player using ps2 as well?
I would need the exact title to check
@@Dorkalicious in my case would be Narutimate Accel 2, Japanese version, or the European version Naruto Ultimate Ninja 5.
I’ve done every single step but my games don’t show up in the ETH section, I’ve gone over the video 10 times now and still no success
Its got to be an IP issue because many ppl here have got it working,
Maybe try updating your version of OPL
You need a constant internet connection?
Ya
@@Dorkalicious Why though when you are using a home network?
@@blinxerizer5426 sorry
No u don't need internet at all
Only access to your local network
Do it also works if you attach a repeater to your ps2 and the repeater to the wifi /wlan?
you can try, maybe
It works ! Thank you 🙏🏽
I'm getting an error 300: cannot connect to SMB server. Is there a way to fix this?
Still getting this, is there a way to fix this?
Hey! Is it possible to follow these steps connecting the ps2 directly to the PC with the ethernet cable?
Yes you might need a cross over cable
Do the cut scenes run at full speed?
Depends on the game but I’ve seen smooth on some but jumpy on games like resident evil outbreak
@@Dorkalicious ok thank you!
How does the loading time compare between the network share and playing a disc?
good question, I’ve read that network is faster than DVD which is faster than USB.
An internal hdd on a ps2 fat is probably the faster option of them all.
Does this work for PS1 games as well?
Yes if you can load them via OPL which I believe you can
Just research using POPSTARTER with OPL
Is it slower to run games off the network vs IDE local drive? I read that SATA vs IDE is a lot faster but from your video it didnt look slow.
Likely internal drive is faster but network is the convenience of downloading a game and firing it up in seconds
Is it possible to use this method with Linux laptop connected directly to PS2 without any router in between?
Likely yes
Is it possible to do this from my personal cloud? Like WDCloud?
Has anyone tried this with an nvidia shield as the server instead of a PC? Also, do the folders have to be at the top level of the share? Or can they be in a subdirectory. eg. \\ip address\sharename
vidia_shield\DVD ?
You can set the path but for simplicity I'd keep it closer to root then not
Long as the PS2 can communicate with the server I'm sure it's possible
Why not use a second network card?
If have two then yes you can
I'm use component cable to play
But when i use lan cable for smb too screen it flickering
but when i un lan cable screen it normal
Why is it like that
can you help me please T_T
Sounds like there is a short somewhere
You should try a different lan cable and video cable (one at a time)
Do process of elimination to see what resolves the issue
I'm having issues, using a secondary router as an in between for the ps2. But it has the same ip as my primary router. Wondering how this could be fixed?
THNF89 they both need to be on the same gateway
@@Dorkalicious wow man didn't expect you to reply so fast. I have the gateway settings identical. I'm starting to think it's just that my FreeMcBoot and OPL are both ancient builds. Couldn't get hard drive games to run either.
@@THNF89 thats unusual, if you have free mcboot working, then you should update your version of OPL, the latest version also improve network speeds
@@Dorkalicious installed latest OPL still nothing. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I might switch to my laptop and see if that will work but beyond that I'm not sure.
@@THNF89 their both on the same router?
I feel like if I open all sharing options like that in Windows 10 some Wi-Fi users might get access to my PC?
If you are concerned give the user a password and then you will need to add that password when setting up the ps2 side of things
@@Dorkalicious I'm gonna do that. Thanks.
Do you need wifi to play games?
no
@@Dorkalicious So all this time directly connecting it to my laptop isn't going to work?
@@hunterkrovac you can try but ideally you have a router
@@Dorkalicious My room is nowhere near my router, but I got it to work with a bridged connection.
@@hunterkrovac ok great you used a crossover cable?
Octet!! Not octave.
Thank you for the tut though.
