I broke down in tears when the radio announced that Chester had passed. Linkin Park was a major part of my teenage years and even as an adult I still love them. Chester had a voice that is hard to match because you felt the pain. He made you feel it. He had this way of singing that - it just fit. I always felt he was so talented. I happen to also like Sum 41. While no one will ever be Chester I think he did a decent job. There are noticeable differences to those of us that listened to linkin park on repeat, wearing our headphones and getting lost in the music and the emotions we were all “going through”. Incredible respect to deryck for this tribute. Chester would want the music world to remember and experience his works again and again, this isn't replacement, this is honoring the incredible career of chester.
Of course, he doesn't have the strength in his voice like Chester had but this is great, I can tell you that much. Thanks for keeping Chester's memories alive.
Thats what I was thinking you can tell ole dude doesn't scream much. But I tell you what a hell of a job tho better then I could of ever done that's for damn sure
That's a common misconception with Chester's voice. It wasn't power that he had, it was incredible control. Absolutely mind blowing control of his breath and diaphragm.
That's why, despite clearly having very much metal influences, they do the music they do. Their more youthful appearance and his voice suit the genre much more than if they did thrash. They did what worked for them on a professional level. Can't really fault them for that.
Whatever is needed to keep Chester’s memory alive in the fans is a good thing because he sang his heart out every time. Also it’s awesome to listen to and watch.

Yes, but if you notice the scream was taken out. Derick couldn't do what Chester did best. And that's half the show. Take arguably the most skillful scream in Linkin parks history in " given up", after Chester had done that live , youd absolutely ruin the show by putting anyone in the place having to replicate that sound. But your right, hes awfully close

No scream tho...? It's not like Deryck can't do it? A lot of Chuck was screaming, but probably not like Faint. Pretty good mimic of Chester's clean vocals.
@@kayleesummers5989 I think the ability for Chester to scream so aggressively, for so long and seamlessly transition back to clean vocals is what made him special. And he never fried his vocal chords. He sounded just as good the day he died as 20 years ago, probably better. Such a rare talent.
Mike should record some album called "Linkin Park and Friends" and record their most iconic songs like: In The End, Numb, Papercut, One Step Closer, What I've Done etc... with their friends like: Sum41, Avenged Sevenfold, Papa Roach, Disturbed, Bring Me The Horizon etc.... that would be hell of a ride!
I had no idea about this cover until now and man was that impressive! Chester's vocals are basically untouchable but Deryck did an amazing job here! Mad props to him and sum 41 for doing Faint justice!
Let’s be honest man, Chester could do that cool Growling thing but over Chester kinda sucked at singing. The singer in this video did better the Chester normally sounded.
@@mikeblev427 ya Chester was on key about 50% of the time... that is the definition of someone who is not very good at singing. BUT with that said most people can't do that aggressive overdirve voice sound that Chester can night in and night out, So that takes talent and a unique ability. But as far as strictly singing? he was not very good. And it shows because this sum 41 guy sounded better and was far more on key and pitch then Chester was 80% of the time.

He literally screams in this performance. Short bursts, and shouts, but he does scream. His voice just probably isn't trained to sustain a scream like that for a long time or over multiple performances
@Colton R Yes, he did this song well, but that doesn't mean he could replace Chester. 1. Listen to him doing The Catalyst at the tribute show- missed half the notes. 2. One of the things that were so great about Chester was his ability to use so many vocal styles. Just because Deryck managed to do a song that sounds similar to how he usually sings doesn't mean he could pull other styles off- for example, do you think he could sing What I've done? Breaking The Habit? Castle Of Glass? I don't think he could match Chester's clean vocals- or screams like in Given Up for example. There's a reason they didn't do the bridge here... Deryck can't do it. Don't get me wrong, I love him and I love Sum 41, but he wouldn't be a good replacement for Chester.
@Colton R I'm aware of that. I didn't say they should continue with Chester (although, apparently some idiots do say that- in a recent interview Mike was asked if LP would use a hologram version of Chester in future tours). All I said is that Deryck would not be a good choice for his replacement.

If you watched him on stage during that show he wasn't over what had happened. This literally happened to the majority of performances during any memorial show.
Tons of respect for not attempting Chesters screams, just shows how unbelievably talented chester was and his screams could never be matched. Great cover!
Agreed with many people scream better than Chester. But his scream and his voice is unique. Plus mimic someone else's voice during performance just meaningless.
Yeah he's happy now, because he's got all the attention now Chester's gone, sorry but I can't stand the guy, Chester needed his friends, he didn't need a so called friend laughing at him in interviews when talking about how he felt, but the truth always comes out eventually, just my thoughts, nowadays it's all about money and me me me, no one gives a shit about fellow human beings, Mike was so jealous, without Chester there is no linkin Park

He is a one of a kind guy. I don't think there is a person as nice as him on this planet. I have so much respect for him.
He also produces
I loved his Xcecutioners stuff, and a lot of the stuff from the Hybrid Theory EP that featured him prominently. Carousel is probably my favorite LP but not LP song
yeah man, not to mention his skills with audio engineering too. wasn't he like the brains behind jay z collision course..?
Whoever mixed this definitely deserves a raise! Greetings from Madrid, Spain!
Agreed! Most bigger bands’ uploads from gigs get mixed terribly and sound like shit, but this was definitely on the better side!

Shanoda is a music producer as well as songwriter/rapper... I’m sure he had a say or two in the mix.
Necesito que Mike venga a España.

The Best Cover I've heard. He did well with Chester's vocals. Mad Respect. A die hard LP fan
nobody is trying to replace Chester they are keeping his memory/legacy alive
All respect to Chester he’s irreplaceable. Deryck did a phenomenal job on the song!
You guys MUST do a song together, Linkin Park with Sum 41 doing some heavy shit, we would love that.
Omggg yes 🥰🥰
Yessir
I wouldn't go too heavy because Derrick isn't a great screamer. His singing parts were pretty close on this though.
Make a live album. Do a few tributes and even perhaps an original.
@@TonyDanilovich You dont need screams to do a heavy song, also is not the same screaming in a live performance than in a studio.
And also Chester damaged his vocal strings (idk if thats how are they called in english) because of those crazy screams, yes they sound amazing but peoples throats are not supossed to do that.
I’ve often regretted not seeing Linkin Park live - those stars never aligned for me. I have no doubt I will be 80 still playing Linkin Park. They got so many of us through the tumultuous years of our youth.
Deryck actually sounds pretty close to Chester in the chorus, too bad he doesn't do the screams. Still good job man!
IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICED

Really? Guess I'm the odd one out here ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think he coulda done it
Deryck is possibly the closest we will ever get to matching with Chester's vocals!! Mike's energy on the stage tells it all!!
check Alex McMillan

look up Cold Black - Resound, that song brought my in my feels it sounds so similar to chester
wtf are you talking about
Bruh...
Sum 41 and Linkin Park need to do more random collabs together, Derycks voice is really good for it
Deryck we all love you thank you for keeping Chester spirit alive, im shure he wouldve love ur version
The smile on Shinoda's face make my soul smile as well. RIP Chester. Won't ever forget my first concert growing up. August 30th 2004, at the Fiddler's Green Amphitheater in Colorado. Love all you guys!
His smile just speaks 'I am so happy I get to perform this song live again'
I saw them on that tour. They played with Less Than Jake, Snoop Dogg, and Korn. One of the best concerts I’ve been to. It was my first as well.
Oh man, look how happy is Mike. That made my day!!
I think its amazing that people from the 2000's era who knew Chester arent letting his songs die. Theyre preforming them even now, Years after his death. Its an extremely noble thing to do for a friend long since lost.
i grow up with this song... if make me so shock when this man nail this song.. it sounds like chester sing the song! hope LP can make a tour with him. i think i already watched it 30 40 times.. miss the live voice!
Fuck. Yes. Great post. Sorry for the curse but it captures my sentiments.

Chester, we miss you 😭 What a Incredible performance they made
Deryck sang better than Emily, should have gotten him in as per initial rumours😂
Incredible respect to deryck for this tribute. Chester would want the music world to remember and experience his works again and again, this isn't replacement, this is honoring the incredible career of chester.
Chester would be proud, great vocal cover of his part.
Damn!!!!! Deryck gave me the chills when he sang Chester's line!! Thanks for the duet!
Yes ! SAME
He did great job
Same, so incredibly well done, this is honoring Chester so much. I'm in chock of this
By far, the absolute best cover of Faint to this day! Deryck did this justice. Hats off Sum 41!!! 🙌 🔥🔥🔥
For me the best cover is by the band Crossfaith ft. Masato from Coldrain, that cover is beyond awesome
I don't know what we did to deserve this, just thank you
Of course, he doesn't have the strength in his voice like Chester had but this is great, I can tell you that much.
Hai guys..
I hope your like my cover this song

perfect cover of Linkin Park - Faint. u r welcome
It always makes me so happy to see how much Mike is smiling during this
Whatever is needed to keep Chester’s memory alive in the fans is a good thing because he sang his heart out every time.
Also it’s awesome to listen to and watch.
The closest to Chester’s tone and distorted vocals I’ve heard so far. Bravo!
yeah they did a pretty good job with this cover !!
I love it. Hard to 'replace' the original, but this is very good.
sorry but not even close Chester Charles Bennington
Yess, but he don't scream
Very good yes, but the closest ? Not even close
Sum41 is beyond underrated . As a metal head I always appreciated their music. They are more metal than most bands that are classified as metal. I’m going to say metal a few more times just to solidify my annoying presence. Metal. Metal. Metal. That is all
Hahaha I love this comment sm
As a metalhead who listens to Sum 41, I agree with this comment very much
Metal.
Yea metal
yeah bud, 30 million copies sold globally, selling out shows since the early 2000s, going strong for almost 30 years, but yeah, totally underrated. right.
we need to return to the skateboard , punk , old music era
yeah.. we do
Oh yeah, we do. I live in NYC and the skateboarding scene seems dead around here. Which is sad, considering it used to be one of the...yeh you know it.

I'm still living in that era dude. Sometimes I felt left out in terms of fashion and music. Iol
I’m still there
Two pillars of my teenage-angst musical era on one stage! By now, Emily is in LP, but I loved seeing Derrick perform LP songs too.
Mike's smile is so contagious and makes this even better than it already is.
0:23 It's INSANE to see how energized Mike becomes as soon as he gets started
I agree
One of the reasons I love that man so much!!!
Yeah, he obviously missed the stage
He looked happy
"Chester, we miss you"
Aww, that made me tear up. Yes, we all do
Love seeing Mike up performing and having fun. Derek actually did a really job as well.
i love how mike shinoda is still out there making music and performing because that’s what he’s meant to do
Why is the crowd so dead? I mean..they lack the excitement... Sum 41 + Mike Shinoda is just a badass combo!!
Because it's an /actual good band/ singing an /actual good cover/ to a maroon 5 crowd. The band should have spent that energy at an actual festival.
@@thecrow2843 Oh dude, that sucks :( reminds me of Pendulum performing for a crowd waiting for Beyonce at Glastonbury several years ago... At least we have this recording. Just what I needed in these times.
They didnt grow up with those bands they were there to se some shit raper
the crowd just isnt mic'd up. people don't realize how hard it is to hear a crowd from stage mics when all those speakers are booming. without mics in the crowd, you can't actually hear them very well.
@@Norwin82 thanks for clearing up the facts, I was about to comment the same thing. I think the mix is direct.
I'm honestly really impressed with Sum 41's resurgence. Did this justice, too.
Damn that smile after the first chorus is so bittersweet, It's like Mike just saw Chester standing proud from afar somewhere in that audience...
Deryck must be first rockstar ever that fully recovers from addiction and comes back stronger and looking better than ever.
He was born right away with an old junkie face
Glad he can recover from alcohol addiction
What about John Frusciante?
@@jajojajojajo8105 wanted to say that, but you beat me to it... The guy looked like a dead man in the 90s
Trent Reznor too
We all know Chester is like a God in vocals, but Deryck is outstanding too. 10/10 .
Been listenin to Sum 41 / Linkin Park for many years !
To me, Mike always sens to be the one having the most fun. Love to see this dude living the dream.
Holy shit if Linkin park tours they better bring Deryck with them. I’ve never heard someone sound so close to Chester. You can tell he’s trying really hard, and he nails it. Kudos kudos kudos to sum 41 for this.
@@goontermg for sure.. chester could hit those notes live with so much emotion in his voice. love ya
Nope...he's not tryin' that hard, it's his natural vocal
The only successor to Chester is the singer before Linkin Park, when they where called SuperXero. Mark Wakefield. He was good, even for his screams at the time. But no one will be as good. But Mark come's very very close to Chester.
Danny from Hollywood Undead also
This is probably the best attempt at covering chesters vocals ive ever seen. Its very close to the original. They did a phenomenal job on this!
I love how he didint even try to do the screaming part. Shows a lot of respect knowing he'll scrap that part lol
He would most likely blow his vocal chords if he is not adept in doing so
@@eduardomartinez-oh6bn no I mean..... I know Derrick could have went for it and done an ok job.... But you can't just pick a linkin park song classic like that and attempt that heavy part. Omg three years... always feels like 3 months to me.. 😖
holy fuck they did an a fucking unreal job covering this. Nobody will ever replace chester, but if there is someone who could fill in it's Deryck. Never really realized how similar their vocal styles are.

Listen to there's no solution from chuck. Sounds like a legit Linkin park song...in a good way.

"Chester we miss you" ❤
I love how Mike enjoy this. And I love how he is always smiling.
So essentially a studio version of their " linkin park and friends celebrating life in honor of Chester Bennington" concert. Yup, I'd love that!
Yaasssss!!!!
I would like to listen Lying From You with Breaking Benjamin 😍
yes!!
Réanimation was the answer
I had no idea about this cover until now and man was that impressive! Chester's vocals are basically untouchable but Deryck did an amazing job here! Mad props to him and sum 41 for doing Faint justice!

Let’s be honest man, Chester could do that cool
Growling thing but over Chester kinda sucked at singing. The singer in this video did better the Chester normally sounded.
@@philodox7599 I saw them live twice. BOTH times Chester's vocals were amazing. Maybe you just happen to see them on a bad day
@@mikeblev427 ya Chester was on key about 50% of the time... that is the definition of someone who is not very good at singing.

@@kingkeltic4228 he did it in another show and it was ok
@@stef22-c2z where? i cant find it.
He literally screams in this performance. Short bursts, and shouts, but he does scream. His voice just probably isn't trained to sustain a scream like that for a long time or over multiple performances
@@user-kz8zr4si3i He literally doesn't scream, he yells.
This is the coolest. I was getting goosebumps. Derryck nailed those vocals.
They should just get him to do a LP tour with them. His voice is spot on. Not shocked. It's his range.
All I said is that Deryck would not be a good choice for his replacement.
he cant do the scream, you noticed he skipped it?
@@davidturner5225 when I was 17 I couldnt scream. At 19 I could. Anything can be trained for. Dude has the vocal strength to learn that FAST if he wanted to do so.
@@Ariel_thenotsolittlemermaid it took me all of about a year with zero singing background to learn how to scream. My buddy who spent all of HS in choir picked it up within a couple weeks. Its not that he CAN'T do it. He just never had a reason to. I have no doubt that he could learn it just as quickly if not faster (with a real trainer) than my buddy did. If you watched him on stage during that show he wasn't over what had happened. This literally happened to the majority of performances during any memorial show.
