I'm dehydrating potatoes as I watch! Potatoes are climbing quite high in price and as I mentioned, with the Idaho water situation with the potato farms, I am anticipating the worst. I have chosen to do plain, frozen potatoes because they were on a huge sale, (1.58 GBP for just short of a kilogram as opposed to 3.16 GBP regular price.) 8lb,(4kg-ish) of russets are 3.16 GBP this week,(limit 5) because Thanksgiving is coming up, regularly they have climbed to 6.33 BBP. People are being priced out of potatoes, as 'new' potatoes, red potatoes and others are nearly twice the price.
I'm dehydrating parsnips today. Now I've seen your video I will be doing some potatoes in the week. Thank you 😃
I'm horrified at the thought of some farmers not being supported to provide us with the food we need. I grew up in the countryside with more tractors than cars, and the hay barn was my playground 😮.
Very good ! One of the most thorough and easy to follow dehydrating videos I've seen... Thanks for explaining the blanching process.... other people's videos made it sound so complicated and tricky ! All the best :) 👍
Thank you. 😊
Thanks Ana I am the odd one who doesn't eat potatoes only sweet 🍠 just learnt how to grow them will be sharing this across my Telegram channels
I chop mine into 1/4" cubes as I find them ideal for adding into soups and stews.
Not being much of a cook, I have no idea (and probably not the patience) of what to use my sliced potatoes for, also lacking an oven is a big issue for sliced potato dish's 😞
I have a stackable dehydrator and do my cubes on 50*C for about 10 hours
How do you store them please ?
@@MsKitton They will store for a few months in an airtight jar or for a year or so in a airtight jar with an O2 absorber or a vacuum sealed jar.
They are not suited for Mylar bags as they have sharp pointed corners which will pierce the bag 😞
@@Lee_Proffit Thank you 😀
Anna, I bought a meat slicer which also has a bread and a veg blade, I slice my cucumber, apples, oranges, tomatoes and potatoes with that. No damage to fingers this way! For grating, I use my kitchen aid attachments.
Thank you , I have a meat slicer too, never though of using it though🤔 I think o will give it a go
Dearest Anna, I hope you are well ❤ Thankyou for all your awesome content ❤ Anna I hope you have a nice, peaceful day ❤ One Big Love always ❤️ Amanda Jane-Free Spirit ❤
Thanks Ana, they look great.
Thank you 😊😊
Anna that's great video I grate mine for quiknes
Thank you 😊 I do like them grated too but In my case creates a little more mess after blanching but great way too w we Jen injects tad more time 😀
Thanks for the video❤❤😊
My pleasure 😊
There’s a steel chain mail glove you can get to help minimize your risk of cutting using the mandolin. I know this because before I had one I cut the heck out of myself. It prevents all chance for cuts. Good luck.
Thank you 😊
Hi Ana, I found that fresh potatoes pulled straight out of the ground make beautiful golden chips and crisps, older ones seem to look and taste a little burned, I’m guessing that is the starch turning to sugar. Does dehydrating them prevent the starch turning to sugar? 🥰
If you don't have the skills, you can get some already dried out in Sainsburys for £1 a box.
I’ve never seen anything but tinned or powdered potatoes in the supermarket. Are you talking about instant mash?
That's the stuff. Potato flakes.
Ok , yes it is brilliant stuff but you can only make mash but with dehydrating you can make other meals. But as you say if no dehydrator flakes are brilliant.😊
True, it was only a suggestion for those who don't diy.
@@kynamatthewson7702do they have milk in them? I’m dairy allergic…
Hi Ana I am in Surrey would love to follow recipes - any workshops up?
Hi, I don’t currently run workshops but I do have a lot of interest for that, so something I will have to look in to 😊
@ thanks hun keep up the good work
Thank you Ana. I might not try this one. I have loved herbs, soft greens, onion greens(yum) onion slices, mushrooms (only powdered) but other veg has left me cold and I threw it all out 🙄😔
However, I wonder if it is possible o make crisps from the dehydrated slices without rehydrating? 🤔
You will have to deep fry potato before dehydrating to make crisps
@AnasFoodLifestyle oh, thank you.
So like this, when you want to use them- obviously roast potatoes are not possible but can you turn them into mash? Hash browns? What exactly? Just that is one of my main issues is I don’t know how to use them after they are dehydrated… sorry with my autism I’m used to eating my safe foods but having to expand due to climate which I am doing but I don’t like to waste money drying the stuff then never use it lol that’s what I’ve done so far
You can grind the dried slices into powder to make mash, if you grate potatoes and then dry them you can make them into hash browns ( after rehydrating ) my slices can be added to make potato gratin or add to any meat bake. Hope that helps 😊
Put good potatoes in a box with dry sand and they stay good for a year.
Hi Ana thanks for doing the video i might have missed you saying but what temperature did you dry the potatoes at and for how long thanks again
Hello . 6/8 hrs on 74c
