Nice job on the Iron Maiden 2 Minutes To Midnight riff!
Cheers, the pedal lends itself really well to that saturated 80s sound 👍
I just got the Demonfx R3 (revv g3) and Golden Horse (klon). I'm very surprised. Stellar sounds for almost no money.
Absolutely. There are some real gems in that catalogue 👍
Sounds good! These companies scan the pcbs and just put in the same parts and charge less lol! I don’t condone it but they haven’t been shut down for it soooo I guess it’s not illegal to make a clone. Awesome pedal!
@@iamstan_rimp it's definitely not condoned, but aye it's happening across the board so I guess you get pretty decent replicas for less cash 🤣🤣
Turn the volume up and gain down and turn the boost up. Put it threw return & send on a multy effect board sounds great
Ah, a bit like a preamp? I bet it sounds killer like that 👍
Great vid!
Thank you very much 👍
i agree with you, 100 W it's the position it gives it very best to
It's the most open sounding the pedal gets 👍
I own this pedal its outstanding, 2 minutes to midnight was one of the riffs.......
It gets the job done, that's for sure. Well spotted too, that's a good ear you have there 👍
Really good jcm 800 tone
Aye, it does the thing huh?
Good morning friends tonechasers and audio miscreants 😎 another great demo thanks for sharing
Cheers for watching my gent
Yeah I kinda dig it, I think the 50w mode was the best
It's a nice balance between the gain and the clarity huh?
I'm curious to see how it holds up against the new Mosky Crunch Pro.
I've not tried one yet but I'll see what I can do 👍
Sounds pretty damn good to me, my kinda overdrive/distortion. Heef won't be pleased but he's already had my money :D
Heef has bought out loads since, he won't miss a few sales here and there. He's busy with his TH-cam channel anyway 😉
Is it going to do Nirvana's sound? I'm building a pedalboard with red color and looking something to change DS-1
It's not really a ds-1 sound but it could do a fat drive sound that is generally within the ballpark. Might be better off buying a DS1 and painting it instead though
If I were to choose between MXR Timmy or boss bd 2 which would you suggest?
@@abhinandanghosh2028 I've not tried the mxr, but I've tried a few Timmy inspired pedals and loved them. I would probably go for that 👍
Just wanna know if the boost section of pedal is independent or not ??
I believe it is, it's been a while and I've moved it on since this, so might be worth double checking
Please make a DemonFX AT-DS vs DemonFX Freedman
I don't own either of these pedals, I had them on loan. I'll ask if I can get them back on loan for a demo 👍
if you are into high gain, I'd suggest you to try the Demonfx R3 (revv g3). It does from Slash to BMTH.
It sounds killer!
About their business practices, I don't like they also copy the looks, but I'm not worried about them copying the circuit. Reality is most «boutique» manufacturers copied circuits, and added their twist, selling it like the new holy grail, making a lot of rubbish claims (selected components in 2023, when tolerances are tighter than ever... give me a break). Actually most overdrive pedals in the market are based on the Boss OD-1 anyway, even the Ibanez Tubescreamer (they removed one clipping diode due to patent reasons, and tweaked the frequency response just a bit). Even JHS himself doesn't seem to be worried about copies, he features them in his channel, and he says they're good when they are.
Yeah, a lot of companies owe it to some of those heritage circuit designs and most companies have a screamer clone and a fuzz face clone. Demon have started moving away from copying the looks on a few pedals and their circuits often sound great 👍
I think you can't patent such a simple circuit. In the end they are just combinations of very common topologies found in text books. It's like if a programmer tried to patent a condition inside a loop, or the mouse click event.
@@miquelmarti6537 Yeah, it all depends on the country. It was patented in Japan, not elsewhere, and those were different times. Regardless, the patent already expired, they're always limited in time, they're like exclusive licenses to commercially exploit something.
However, you'd be surprised about how many simple IT things are patented, but again not in every territory.
A guitar example, to understand it better: the Buzz Feiten system we all know, which is based on a nut moved a short distance towards the bridge (something done since really long before), and a tuning method developed by Buzz Feitein and another person. When you read the patent the only subject actually covered is the tuning method. So the «Buzz Feiten system» couldn't be patented in the European Union and they couldn't charge us for it, because patenting methods isn't allowed. But it could be patented in the USA, where the majority of patent wars take place.
@@riangarianga interesting, thanks for the extended explanation.
I wanna buy every ffin DemonFX pedal out there like it's 2 minutes 2 midnite lol. I'm looking at this one (AT-DS), the Mini Chorus, the Solo, the Precision Drive, the Filtration G String, man the list never ends, and I already own 5 or so, could almost buy another Flying V from what I've spent on budget pedals LOL!!
Tell me about it 🤣🤣 there are so many great choices and so many different tones to be had
@@BudgetPedalChap The funny part is: when I play my Marshall DSL I don't even need that many pedals, just a tubescreamer, some chorus/delay/reverb and the usual EQ and volume pedal. I could do with a mini board, instead I have the biggest affordable board they sold at Thomann, the 80 cm one, and a smaller one for my fx loop. Both are stuffed with pedals, because I can and because it's fun 🤣😂🤣
@@peter333 why not eh? 👍🤣🤣
The AT+ is based on the JHS Angry Charlie which itself is based on a JCM 800, not the Crunch Box. Not that any of that really matters too much. If you like a pedal, then it's all good. To each his own....
I heard the Angry Charlie schematic was a modified crunch box. I'm sure I read thst the crunch box was designed to emulate a Marshall amp somewhere too. Your comment is spot on though, if you like the pedal then that's what matters eh?
I like the tone!🔥
But i don't like the name of the brand 😅
Yeah, it's a sticking point for some people. A little bit of abrasive paper and a Sharpie, you could make it say anything you want 👍🤣🤘
I found it too noisy, no? Is JHS this noisy when the gain is up like that?
I've not tried the JHS but all the pedals that are based on this style circuit are fairly noisy. A decent gate will be required if you want truly quiet operation.
Someone who don't like what demonfx do in their businnes is just someone with money to spend with pedals that major part of the world will never be able to buy
They do bring a taste of the pricey stuff to the masses 👍
The expensive guys are just ripping off circuits anyway. Almost all of their pedals are derived from Boss/Ibanez/Marshall/proco/EHX
I wish that the playing would stop each time a setting were changed, and let the listener hear how much noise/hiss was present. Sounds like I would not be happy with any gain setting of this pedal above 2:00 on the "clock scale". I could hear noticeable hiss noise above that.
Unfortunately, audience retention starts to dip if there is dead air so I do apologise. There is some noise yeah, it's a reasonably high gain pedal and the EQ sits in that mid range where you can't really get away from the hiss. Pairing it with a noise gate could help if it's a tone you like. Hope that helps 👍
Anyone running this pedal at 18v?
I didn't try it at 18v. Can it do that?
Well according to one website it has 25volt caps in it.. 2 of them actually which means it should be able to run at 18v like the real Andy Timmons pedal. even Andy himself says the pedal doesn't sound nearly as good at 9volts.. so if you have never really heard it correctly.. although...be warned it could burn it up if those guys are wrong about the caps.. i can link you to what i read and you decide if you want to try it .. but if you do please let me know. as im about to buy one but if only if it runs at 18volts@@BudgetPedalChap
I got one, really really a pleasant surprise. This pedal just sings. Check out thecNUX 6ixty-5ive.killer aswell.not all chinese bixes are junk.
Yeah, you can get some rather pleasing sounds out of a bunch of the Chinese pedals these days 👍
I have the same one and my sound is much better.???
Different amps and guitars could explain that difference. What are you using with it?
Well why pay .$380 when u can pay $50 for the same pedal
That's a very good question 👍
I would save the money spent on this pedal and just buy a JCM800 instead
😂😂😂 just a little more than this pedal
@@BudgetPedalChap apparently not in the UK..
@@jcwoodstl 😂😂😂
yeah only upwards of $1.800 for a head I can see your point ;)
Heef who?
The maker of the pedal it's based on
Doesn’t really sound like the @ to be honest
I've not tried it, how do you think it differs?
@@BudgetPedalChap this is more wooly and muffled at higher gain and the actual sound itself is different. I don’t think it is the same circuit but I’m a moron so don’t listen to me
I own an original MI Audio CrunchBox.
This ain’t that.
The JHS take on that was the angry Charlie and the the AT was a further revision. There have been comments that this isn't exactly true to that either, so it's kind of a ballpark of all three I guess.
Need to quit playing and let us hear the noise level...which is quite apparent at 3:05 and 4:06. I don't think AT runs his JHS unit at this high of a gain level.
Aye, sorry about that. Unfortunately, video retention surfers if there is a lack of things going on.
Ok, OK😅, it is not the JHS AT....That is the reason why it sounds so bad
😂😂😂
