    They have a big trim pot inside too (no pulling apart needed). I was told it adjusts the gain but I found it mostly just increases treble but at a different curve than the treble pot. Whichever... it gives a nice brightness and I found it sounds best at around 11:30 (fairly close to the max which is full anti clockwise) - with the treble pot just boosted a little, around 1:30.
    It's generally a very smooth sounding pedal. Very much the same as a Caline Pure Sky but a bit more pro-sounding if I can put it that way. And the pure sky is pretty darn smooth!
    So the Trimpot in this JR pedal just makes a good pedal better.

      I'm going to have to check that out, what a tidy little secret. I've only got these on loan for a certain time so I'll get around to that as soon as 👍

      When you say a "bit more pro-sounding" would you say that it is in the same league as more expensive pedals above $100-150

    It had a bluesy sound but when you turn the tone, it gets into 70s territory. Maybe a wah pedal with it.

    I own the demonfx Jan ray and have to say that it is a very good sounding pedal. Never played the Vemuram version so not sure how close the demonfx pedal is but man it sounds great with my strat and also with my Les Paul….love it and the price is awesome!! ;)

    I was playing around with some pedals I had up on the shelf, pulling them down into different stacking combos..,this was one of them. I put this after a Wampler Velvet fuzz and before a Wilson Lotus, sandwiched between...sounded really good and on its own.
    I refuse to pay the money for a Vemuram Jan Ray and for like 50.00 or even less pretty damn good. If it sounds good ...play it. This one is coming off the shelf and on a board.

    • @BudgetPedalChap
      @BudgetPedalChap  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it's really hard to justify the prices vemuram are asking. I agree, this pedal punches well above it's price point and delivers some fantastic tones

      Ever notice that all pedals start to sound the same when you have over a couple dozen of them?
      in 1979 I started out with the big box Pro Co Rat New in the box $45.00 65 BF Deluxe reverb Picked it up for $100.00 and a Delta Effects Effectron JR delay (For a quarter ounce of weed) and a MIJ Strat $200.00, I was like in heaven.
      I didn't need anything else, then I started making money..

    I know some people are outraged by the blatant design rip-off that Demon FX use, but my question is whether they hold up sound-wise? Do you find that this pedal holds it own? I've never played one, so I'm not sure if I should bother buying a few of them to try out. Cheers

    • @BudgetPedalChap
      @BudgetPedalChap  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Whether or not they sound authentic, I really can't say as I've not played the boutique versions. They are generally great sounding pedals, so actually they have it where it counts too.

    • @jsaeffects
      @jsaeffects ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I bought the Demonfx version on a whim because it was dirt cheap and the Timmy is my absolute favourite drive pedal of all time ever and, on paper, the Jan Ray is yet another Timmy clone. To keep a long story short, I loved the Demonfx version so much, and it sounded different enough from a Timmy, that I instantly went and bought the original (and not for the first time; I had a Box of Rock clone that made me do the same). Given the original is about 8 to 10x the price of the clone, they're not a million miles away from each other sonically! However its much like the Klon/Klone thing - you can make them sound virtually identical in isolation, but once you start adding in other pedals, the differences become more and more apparent

    I have the little MXR Timmy, and the Caline Blue Sky, both very useable pedals. So I’d be interested in a comparison with those. I’m surprised that Ozzy hasn’t called you yet, but I’m sure he will soon. He’s probably just busy.
    Btw, you probably stopped just short of a copyright infringement for Pride and Joy 😉

    • @BudgetPedalChap
      @BudgetPedalChap  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's the sweet spot that I live in, just short of copyright. I'll have a look into getting the MXR on the channel, I'd be interested to give it a go myself. Got some more demon FX stuff on the schedule for the near future and maybe a bit more of that g series from Caline too 👍

    at half the price n size, the Rowin Tube Drive does almost the same: loots of drive and volume! 25€s, heartily recommended!

      The rowin stuff is something I've not dipped into too much. I dig their enclosures but I really didn't like their big muff, so I've not tried any more. I'll have a look out and see if I can pick one up 👍

    • @tonylocke1214
      @tonylocke1214 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BudgetPedalChap Rowin definitely make some nice pedals. If you want a Marshall in a box, their LEF 602B overdrive is a little monster. Probably my favourite ‘medium to high gain’ overdrive, and one that cleans up beautifully, with a tweak of the volume pot on the guitar. Not that I lay any kind of claim, to be the arbiter of such things, but I own about 200 overdrives, from super cheap, to boutique, and I keep coming back to this one. I agree that their fuzz pedals leave something to be desired, but this one’s a winner for me.

      Did you mean some more sustained or straight strummed chords? I've listened back and on most of the settings, there is a decent amount of chord work albeit choppy funk chords for the most part. I try to let the tone of the pedal guide my playing and this one inspired a lot of funky blues rhythm 🤣🤣
