    Thanks Doug, the ability to defer my regular CPP when my CPP-D runs out at 65 is a great benefit as this would allow me to draw on my RRSP in the years from 65-70 and get a lot higher OAS/GIS in later years.

      If you can guess your Yr of death .. Cause with men I hear its 72? so holding out 5 yrs to gain a couple grand for 2 yrs. wouldnt be option 1 for us.

      @@91rssFor a 65 year old man in Canada his life expectancy is 81 and a half so there are a lot of years to collect at the higher rate unless your personal disability impacts your life expectancy. www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/tv.action?pid=1310013401

    and perhaps a comment on what happens if you were on unemployment at one point,, A friend was on it when they put her through retraining for a yr

      Unemployment does not affect your CPP disability, unless you are getting regular unemployment benefits during a period you are also claiming to be disabled. Service Canada does not like that.

    dont see the links? would be good to hear on what happens if your splitting CPP Disability and LTD. and you get raises at work when contracts are settled. Do you get that raise clawed back?

    • @thecppdisabilitychannel2048
      @thecppdisabilitychannel2048  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We've got the links there now. Sorry about that! Raises from work can get clawed back for LTD if there is LTD was paid in months where the raise is applied to. This will not always be the case so you would need to get specific advice.

    I have been on CPPD since l was 50, I’m 55 now, but prior to that I worked 30 years straight. So at age 65, my CPPD becomes CPP , no change in take home amount only in name? And if l don’t want CPPD anymore, but rather defer it until I’m age 70 because it will be worth more, l have to accept 1 months pay of CPP , then l have to contact Service Canada and ask to stop my payments, is that what I’m understanding?

      This is an area where I am not an expert. Watch the sections where Doug explains it. But I would recommend reaching out to Service Canada in advance. You could also book an appointment with your local service Canada office to discuss it in person with an agent. Let them know well in advance this is what you want to do.

    if a person has been on cpp disability all their adult life ... Is your CPP much lower when you turn 65 and it changes from CPP disability to CPP... the person would have not worked to contribute to their CPP... thk you

    • @thecppdisabilitychannel2048
      @thecppdisabilitychannel2048  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The years receiving CPP disability aren't factored in positively on negatively. So the CPP retirement would be based on the level of contributions when the person was working. Being on CPP disability helps because otherwise all those years out of the workforce would bring down your average earnings, which would reduce the CPP retirement payable. You can see your CPP retirement amount by logging into your My Service Canada Account.

    I am turning 65 in 2022 and have been receiving CPP Disability since I was 60, unable to work due to issues from cancer. Will the federal government calculate my ongoing CPP payments maximizing what I am entitled to receive or do I need to hire a lawyer like you in order to obtain the absolute legal maximum that I should be receiving?

  • @91rss

    also always wonder what happens when one moves to Canada or moves back to after being away (expat)

    • @thecppdisabilitychannel2048
      @thecppdisabilitychannel2048  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you paid into the social security plan of another country, you can transfer those credits back to Canada. Otherwise you don't get any contribution credits for years out of the Canadian workforce.

    • @thecppdisabilitychannel2048
      @thecppdisabilitychannel2048  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably, but I don't know the answer to this for sure. Go to your My Service Canada profile. It will show you what your CPP retirement payment would be. See if it is the max.

  • @91rss
    @91rss 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    also wonder if there is a chart to show what the Max contribution was for a certain yr. 80's 90's , to see how close one was to it. and does the calculation CPP tell you, assume your taking 8 poor yrs off? and do it for you?

    • @thecppdisabilitychannel2048
      @thecppdisabilitychannel2048  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not aware of a chart, but if you get your CPP Statement of Contributions it will show all contributions going back to the 80s and for each year it will tell you if you made the min or maximum contributions. You can get this statement of contributions from the My Service Canada Website. You have to log into your personal account.

    I'm receiving cppd when i turn 65 and it converts to cpp the amount i will be receiving from cpp will be less than i'm receiving on cppd. I was planning on oas to make up the difference, but now with the changes to oas in April 2023 i have to wait an extra 13 months before i can collect oas, is there anything i can collect from the government to make up the difference for the 13 months, i'll still be disabled and unable to work.
