Hey everyone. Thank you so much for all the positive support on this video. (Be sure to check out my favorites videos.)I am glad to see I am not alone. A lot of people have been suggesting doing a giveaway or a destash by at this time I am not ready to part with any of it LOL! As someone said in the comments..... I am a collector. I am going to try to use the supplies more often. (We shall see how that goes lol)

Tiffany Solorio I will watch your favorites video, but I pray I already have all the items so I won’t be tempted to go buy even MORE!!! Lol 😂 I made quite a few projects, plus several entries in my art journal! Feels great to actually use my items again!!!

There are lots who can relate to this story, including me 🙄. My weakness is definitely paper. I just love it and it's ridiculous how much I have. Find a crafty pal and maybe swap products, or sell them off so you can get the products you really do like. Good luck 👍😁

Same here... spent wayyyyy too much on things that “I had to have”. Some are on this video! My husband challenged me to a no spend year... haaa holding onto gift cards to use after new releases. It’s a sickness to collect all this!! You aren’t alone!

Mary Pent - I have a stack of paper pads almost as tall as I am. I am only 5-2 but that's too much paper. 90% is probably Michael's $5 Hot Buy pads. So and so showed it in a haul oh look what she got I need that. I swore off buying any new pads until I really whittle my pile down. I have not bought one in over a year. Holidays are the cutest so they are the most difficult to resist. Right?

Hmmmm...wonder why YT recommended THIS to ME?! Lol 😂 I know EXACTLY why...BECAUSE MY HOBBY HAS BECOME BUYING SUPPLIES MORESO THAN CRAFTING!!! Lol 😂 I needed THIS video a year ago! Lol 😂 Newbie crafter here who obviously thinks buying what others use in tutorials will AUTOMATICALLY MAKE ME A BETTER ARTIST! Hahahaha 😂 Thanks for sharing! I’ve sold some of the items, but others I can’t seem to part with, yet! 😉 I keep saying I’ll get around to using it ONE OF THESE OLD DAYS!!! Lol 😂 I am living & learning 🙂

A friend once text me something from her Facebook feed that said there are two types of crafters; those that collect supplies and those that actually use them. 😉
Sadly, I lean toward collecting as my time to use them has been quite limited. I would like to swing that pendulum back towards more usage in 2020. 🙂

I have a personal rule when I’m buying...I have to come up with 3 or more uses for the product or stamp etc before I purchase or I walk away. It doesn’t always work haha because what the heart wants the heart wants 😁

I do the same! Also, I buy a cheap or make a product to see if I like it before getting something more costly. Like I bought a Dollar Tree makeup brush to try blending ink with before I commited to buying a set. Once I knew I liked it and would use them I got a set.

Love that you did this. There are so many times I just impulse buy bc something is “cute” but don’t realistically think about whether I will use it or if it’s my “style” or not. Going through your stash like this is a good way to destash and learn from previous purchases to help in the future and even sell some items to get some $$$ back!

  • @militarymom6690
    @militarymom6690 4 ปีที่แล้ว +27

Tiffany we heard your hesitation, but you received a lot of love in the comments. Why? First because of the bravery in your honesty, and secondly because every crafter has purchased supplies - sometimes very expensive supplies - that we don’t use. As Susan Myrick basically said, your personal style just doesn’t lend itself to these particular products and supplies. As Ardyce Seabrook said: you like what you like, and as you said: your decision not to use is likely no reflection on the product’s quality.
    Great video - TFS!👍🏾

I suggest you gift these products to someone who would enjoy using them. I buy many supplies, many interchangeable - watercolor crayons, Gelatos, Distress Crayons, Scribble Sticks, Neocolor Il, Vicki Boutin crayons, and Marabu Art Crayons. Two years ago l started hosting Art Sunday’s for 3 adults and my granddaughter (she is eight), I supply all the art supplies and they provide dinner. In two years I have have not run out of any supply except Gesso, and my Students haves great time making art.

I laughed when I saw the distress oxide sprays because I too went whole hog in on them this summer (because I LOVE the pads) and have not found the sprays that useful.

Thanks Tiffany for your honesty. I think all crafters are guilty of buying things that they never or hardly ever use. I think you should donate all the things that you don't use and know that you're bringing joy to someone else. Life is all about admitting our mistakes and learning from them. Maybe all of us should really think more about the reason behind our purchases. Have a great New Year!

This pot is thrilled to meet a kettle! Having been a crafter/collector since 1997 you might well image that I have had my fair share of regrets in the items I've invested in over the years. I'm embarrassed to say that many things have been given to Goodwill, offered on my local Buy Nothing group, a few sold at garage/craft sales, but if I'm honest a lot have simply been thrown away. The only "negative" thing I would say to you, Tiffany, is own it. You apologize way too much! You weren't telling all of us to throw these things out and you weren't trashing the products, many of which are wonderful and you clearly state that. I hate that as women we all too often feel the need to apologize for sharing our truth! So my one piece of advice to you is step up and own your opinion after all it belongs to you! I guess I have one other piece of advice ... I read your comment about not being ready to part with any of these things. As your fellow pot/kettle and collector, I get it, but I encourage you to try and let go of something. It's the one thing I've been working on for the past year! I have supplies that I've stubbornly kept because, "I might use/need it one day". Without exception, I have never had that happen and I've been saying this since 2001 (my first cross country move after taking up crafting in 1997). I put stamp and die sets in an annual craft sale I participate in last summer - everything retired so I wouldn't easily be able to replace it - and I have not missed one item I sold. It was terribly empowering and I'm excited for the sale this June so I can pass along some things that I didn't think I could live without but have found that I don't miss in the slightest. So, stop apologizing so much and maybe try to let go of one thing ... this pot's 2 cents! Oh, and a BIG thank you for holding the mirror up in such a direct and honest way. I just stumbled on your video through a YT recommendation and I'm so happy I spent 20 minutes with you today! I'm going to watch a few more (I always do before subscribing) but I think you've added another follower! Cheers!

I think any of us that are excited & passionate about paper crafts get sooooo many ideas when we see products that we just ‘have to have them’. I’ve discovered that all ideas are great & inspiring ..... but if they don’t fit our style then we use them for a few specific projects & that’s it! We all have ‘those’ products, collections & tools that were not a good investment for ‘us’. Thanks for your openness & honesty on this issue. 🌸💜✨

I think it is super helpful to have feedback on products you don’t use. Helps us to question whether we should spend our money on them. I watch a lot of beauty videos and those content creators often do a ‘purchase or pass’ video on the new releases that come out and I do enjoy those. I have so many products and some I don’t use much at all. I used to buy all of the new colours of stampin’ up markers and now I don’t use them as they have been replaced by my clean colour real brush markers, especially as I don’t have the matching card stock now. I have been dying to have the liquid watercolours but I love my Daniel Smith and Altenew watercolours. I buy loads of interactive dies but haven’t used any of them at all! I have totally avoided the Project Life and Planner trend. Not my cup of tea. I totally get why that staycation if not useful.

I don't think you should apologize at all about any of your opinions. That's why there are so many options in the crafting world....everyone is different and loves different products. What works for one person may not necessarily work for another. And that's ok. And it makes all of our work unique. I appreciate your honesty. I'm not a big impulse buyer when something first comes out, but I have a hard time resisting a good sale...whether I need it or not! Like you, I can't get into the cute stamps and the scenic sets, but I love what others do with them. And I've bought planners and never really used them. I have to do a BIG purge this year and figure out what I really love. Great video! TFS, Heather

I think as crafters you have to figure out what kind of card maker you are and what works for someone else may not work for you. I have purchased so many things I wish I hadn't because it just sits on a shelf or lies in a box. You are entitled to your opinion don't worry about the "haters" just keep making your videos and be honest and true to yourself. Your real fans will keep watching.

  • @fburky

One more thing that I hardly use is the Tim Holtz stamp platform, with its separate carrying case. I loved the idea of reinking your stamp and having it hit the same place the second or third time, but as I'm not a card maker I hardly ever use it. I quickly bought it before they became unavailable due to the lawsuit over it, and I think that prompted me to buy it, rather than thinking through if I'd really get my money's worth out of it (I like the earlier comment about asking yourself if you're going to use it at least 3 times, that way it's not a one time impulse buy). I tried using it with my mixed media journals when I was stamping an image, but naturally they're way too bulky to fit into it, and the stamp never did hit the same place twice, so that didn't last long.
Thanks for doing this video! These types of video are super helpful to those who are new and starting out building up their supplies. That was the thing that overwhelmed me the most in the beginning, not wondering if I had the skill/talent, but not being sure of what I needed to have for supplies. Everywhere I looked I was seeing different supplies being used, and I overspent on items I hardly use or came to realize I would never use. But then again there is a learning curve and determining what you, as a person, really enjoy doing. There's so many different types of arts/crafts out there, how do you know if you don't try? So there is that part to it, if you don't do something, you can't find out if it's really what you enjoy doing. Lately I've been doing watercolors, and I was sure in the beginning that I wouldn't enjoy it, but I did quite a few Christmas themed pages, and I'm finding I love watercolors. And even there I've found that having a good quality paper and brushes makes a big difference, so, again, even a learning curve when you're doing something you find you really enjoy. This type of video is great, and I'm sure that you're helping people become more focused on what they want to spend their hard earned money on. BTW, Happy New Year :-)

Some of my stamps have never been used, probably Never will! I have finally reached a place where I rethink any purchase and try and sleep on it before buying. Just so you know you're NOT alone. Lol keep doing what you love and love what you do. Life is too short. Huggsss

Hi Tiffany, Whether we agree on the products you chose or not....your point is well taken. I've learned the hard way and spent dollars I didn't have to on products I could live without. Having gone, over the years from primitive painting with acrylics to fabric art, to needle felting, watercoloring and now mixed media I have supplies that have overflowed my craft space, into tubs out in the hall. I am now interested in journal making and all the various supplies that go along with them. I love all the various media I've worked in and even taught classes in some of them. So think carefully about all the wonderful art supplies that are out there before you invest in them. My Sister and I used to call it "the gathering". When you discover something you want to learn and do, you have to first "gather" all the things you feel necessary to work on the craft. So you buy and shop and watch for sales and coupons and gather up all your goodies before you even learn everything there is to learn about that particular skill. So take it slow and double think before you add anything to your supplies that you could easily do without or substitute with something else. You'll save money and storage space. Just sayin'.

Tiffany we all have tons of supplies that we get excited when we see them, buy them and then they just sit on a shelf. One idea is to Happy Mail some of your friends or subscribers, they would love to receive the 3X4 cards, the stamps, the dies, etc. That is a good way to make good use of it by sharing and freeing yourself from them.

I was like you - buy because it's pretty, buy because I KNOW I'll use it someday, buy because I saw someone else make something beautiful, buy, buy, buy. Then my income changed. My life is fine but I did need to change my priorities. I decided to have a craft day and invited friends and family to come over, create a Christmas craft using all my extra supplies, and take with them whatever they wanted. (I had my favorites and most used items in my craft room which was off-limits.) We had such a fun day, lots of laughs, some treats to eat, and it was wonderful to know that everyone enjoyed themselves and had new craft supplies that they would use. Now, I use everything I have, my craft area is less cluttered, and my mind is more at ease knowing I'm not wasting my money. I'm much more focused on using what I have (which is still a LOT, believe me! LOL!) without spending until I actually run out of something. For me, this was the best choice.

You are NOT alone!! I am going through the same thing myself and have come to realize as much as I LOVE other people's cutesy animal cards, I simply don't use them. Be true to yourself, you're entitled to your own opinion and share it as well. It's a maturing process. I'm so with you on the journaling and as cute as the We R Memory Keepers binding and hole punchboard are--along with some phenomenal videos, I know myself well enough to accept the fact it would occupy valuable real estate in my craftroom and I would resent allocating funds I could have truly enjoyed elsewhere. You brave girl! Thank you. I could actually live without about 75% of my craft supplies. I don't have any of the items you chose for this video, except, I do have "cute" stamps that I never use. I don't make cards for children, and I don't like that kind of card for adults. I also don't use many stamps for scrapbooking, which got me into all the supplies in the first place. I have tried to find places to donate some of the things I use the least (or never), but it isn't easy to find them. I have given quite a bit to a local school's art department.
Including an a very expensive accucut die cutting machine (was I crazy?). Good luck getting your craft life into such clear perspective. I think I was happier when all my supplies fin in one suitcase instead of a room! Happy crafting.

I literally wasted my money on all the items you showed some exact and some very similar. I feel bad that you were so worried to share but glad you did because I can totally relate. I learned a lot of costly lessons the past two years thinking things would help my creativity but I know now that if you don’t use it your just collecting stuff. Luckily I have realized what I do enjoy creatively and it requires a lot less of this stuff.

Debbie Pulford ...have to agree about planners. They are just too big/bulky. I guess that’s what I have a purse calendar for. As for writing things out...a journal is a great tool. No need to be expensive at all either. A dollar store notepad lets you journal just as well as a leather bound one.

Hey Tiffany, do not apologize. I feel you on that. I agree with most about haters. They find a video, usually on a subject that is unrelated to them, thinks that what the poster did was stupid, and add their own comment just to stroke their own ego. They are miserable, unhappy people. In the meantime, if there are any products you care to unload, I am sure a local rec center, senior center, or school will take them. I could also take them off your hands too, I am always will to try new products in my projects.

I agree with many of them, destash sale girlfriend - many of us would love the opportunity to purchase some of these from you and you get some money back. And one more thing, never apologize for your opinion, that's your right to have it and I respect you for being honest and truthful about what works for you and what doesn't. It actually is helpful for some of us who may be considering trying a product out to hear others view on it. Now lets start that sale! I'll add a few things to it if you don't mind! Hahaha

Love this video. It's a perfect concept, because we all have things we've bought that are good, but we just don't use them. For me this year, the purchase that I don't use is my Waffle Flower Watercolor Mat. I have a glass media mat and that's what I use for everything. I thought I would use the watercolor mat, but I just don't. The glass media mat just cleans so easily and in reality it's always on my desk and therefore it's my go to surface. Happy New Year!

your honesty is nothing to fear. there are people out there who need to see this because they buy out of impulse and trends. money wasted. here’s how i controlled my impulse. things i wanted i wrote down on paper with cost and the store name. i waited at least a month to which i allowed for me to think about the function and need. i also think of invest, environmental concerns, and finding it cheaper. if this item doesnt haunt in that month, it demonstrates that it wasnt needed. when i go back on the list, i have to be honest and knock it off. some times i leave it on for another month. i also eatablish a budget to which i save for it or put an emphasis on it by redistributing my funds for it. for example, if i want a shoe the money for that will be channeled to the craft budget. i lose something out of getting something else. this allows me to make the best judgment. its taught me to be smart about what i purchase. i used to buy things at random because they were featured and they ended not being used. the environment thing has been my emphasis because i think about the environmental impact and its toxicity to our planet. so much waste because of a hobby doesnt cut it no more.

I totally could have made this video! Except for the Oxide sprays. If I just used them on their own, I would feel the same way, but I always use them with the regular distress sprays, which I absolutely LOVE because there is no shimmer. You saved me quite a bit of money with this video... Squirts, liquid watercolors and the floral coordinating dies have been on the top of my wish list for a while. So, thank you. I also never use my Nuvo stamp cleaner:) I got it to clean my stamps before using the Alcohol Lift Ink, never used... along with the reinker, ALL of the pearls and at least 20+ other colors of alcohol inks, not to mention the Yupo, sparkle cardstock, glossy cardstock, blending solution, the storage tins, and on and on... I was going to buy a blowing tool and I have never even tried to make one background! Not a single one!! I’ll probably get around to it at the same time I start making scene cards with cute critters or clean and simple card designs while jotting it all down in my new planner with the coordinating stickers, pens, stamps... 🙄

Hopefully, those who disagree will realize not every product is for everyone and if you're finding you're not using it...there shouldn't be any complaints; everyone doesn't craft the same with the same products. Happy New Year!

  • @lucytyson6275
    @lucytyson6275 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Tiffany, you are not alone. I gasped when you put out the distress oxide sprays because I also bought every set and have only used a few a handful of times. I also bought the Pearl inks but have used these quite a bit, I use them on Translucent Yupo paper through a stencil. I place a stencil on the yupo paper then squirt color over these. Let dry then remove the stencil. There probably will be wet areas after you remove the stencil so set aside until the rest dries. Thank you for your honest opinion, there are so many products on the market, and a lot of duplication.
