    One tip on sequins in shaker cards. Rub a dryer sheet over the acetate window before adding sequins and they won’t stick.

    Lol, your very first item - I bought some years ago because a well known TH-camr recommended it. Hated it, never found it any good, threw it out! The question is WHY you haven't used your cameo, you used the old one, is the new one harder to use, having issues with the hardware or the software or is it a space problem? I totally get the patterned paper over stash, most look pretty but then they are not used. My tip for that, is to cut them down into smaller, card sized pieces. That way I don't feel bad about cutting into a sheet for something small! Crazy I know, but 'saving for best' is ingrained in some of us!

    this was a wonderful idea. thank you for doing these videos. i have to agree with you on many of the same products. i bought them thinking i would use them and here i am YEARS later and they are untouched! i've gotten MUCH better with papers.i don't buy whole collections, only the sheets i like. i didn't get into copics because i knew they would just sit there tying up HUNDREDS of dollars for nothing. these types of videos wake us up or at least get our attention to see our patterns. thank you again for doing this.

      Sherkie19 I bought the comics by buying the little packs in michaels with a coupon and when I was done with the little packs I started buying singles with the coupon. Every time I would drive by I would buy 1 with the coupon. They were right at the register. Until they added Coptic to the cannot use a coupon list. So I guess either Coptic, michaels or both put a stop to my little addiction. We won’t talk about all the other markers. With Tim Holtz’s new doodle art maybe I’ll use them more. I loved doodle art as a kid, teenager, whichever and actually love to color but there is not too many stamps with a lot of coloring

      Jennifer Smith I was a pattern paper hoarder too. Whew, that wasn’t too hard to say. Sort of like at an AAA meeting where each person says my name is .... and I’m an alcoholic. I probably fave 75 to 100 lbs of pattern paper. I was able to break the cycle of purchasing it about 2 years ago. I plan on making sets of greeting cards with them and just add a sentiment and presto, the card is done. I have been planning to do this now for about 6 months and I just haven’t gotten to it.

    OMG can I relate... my most "I wish I didn't buy" expensive products are the Copics, the Pan Pastel set and my artist watercolor sets, to name only those. Like you, I love them and I would not get rid of them, I simply don't use them. Then come the paper packs, and the dies... The amount of $$$ I spent on stuff I don't use, it's insane !!! I think more videos like this should be out there, make us realize we do not need to buy ALL there is... Thank you for this video

    My kryptonite is the Graphic 45 collections. They are so incredibly beautiful!! I pretty much buy them all. I do use some of them, but I buy more than I use.
    I don’t even attempt to talk myself out of it any more. And I’m OK with that.
    However, the rest of my craft room could use some serious de-stashing!!

    I upgraded to Silhouette 4, I love it! I’m a card maker and it cuts out my stamped images beautifully, I love that that it can write and then cut around the word, I’ve even learned how to use registration marks, if your a card maker you’ll eventually save money since you’re not buying dies. I can also make planner stickers on my cameo so it’s saving me money there too. I’ve thrown out tons of pattern paper pads, I’m not buying those anymore!

      Kim Harbaugh, I’ve been thinking about a Cricuit, but have no idea what it does or what I’d use it for. But everyone seems to have one so I thought I should, too. How does it cut out stamped images? The mind boggles.

    • @kimharbaugh
      @kimharbaugh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Carol Hodges I can cut stamp images two ways, I stamp images, place them on the Silhouette Pixscan mat, take a picture with my phone, upload the picture, then trace the images. I can cut the stamp images and THEN stamp, which is what I mostly do, I cut out tons of each image and then when I’m ready to make a card I stamp and color. If it’s a red rubber stamp then I stamp on the pixscan mat, upload the picture, trace it and cut it out while it’s on the pixscan mat.

    I really enjoy watching your videos because you are not bias in your comments regarding products. I agree with everything you say because I also don't know why I buy when I obviously have so much! I'm hoping that after watching a several "craft supplies I wish I didn't buy", the words will ring in my head as I go to purchase yet another crafting supplies.
    Having said that, I know you mentioned in your video that you don't get rid of your stuff, however, if you decide you want to sell the one that was for someone who passed away, please let me know. I lost my daughter almost 9 years ago this April and I have been putting together a few pages here and there when I have the courage pick up the scrapbook I started from the year that she passed and I have been looking for something similar to the one you showed on this video. I gave all the patterned paper away because I don't use patterned paper and I stopped buying them. I always found me making my own patterned paper. You can use the Nuvo Drops with stencils and you can also mix them with water and use them in a watercolor way. I stopped buying craft supplies. Many items in my stash went to a relative just getting into card making. If you don't have a willing relative in need of supplies and want to get rid of items, try senior centers or nursing homes. Very often they have craft classes and limited budgets and could make good use of what you no longer want or need. Also elementary art teachers might be able to use items, particularly paper. I taught second grade for years (not art specifically) and a very large percentage of the supplies used are purchased by teachers out of their pockets, particularly art supplies. Local libraries might also be interested as some of them run clases. And there are always thrift stores who sometimes sell things for crafting. Definitely worth contacting folks.

    If you don't have a creative reuse store near you, you can donate art supplies to senior centers or adult day care centers. They will take books, magazines, puzzles, and games also.

    A problem that a lot of crafters have is wanting collections. If you buy one ink, you want the whole set for example. Or if you buy a paper collection, you buy everything that goes with it. Another problem that I had is not understanding my style. I see a product demonstrated and it looks pretty so I buy it. Then I realize that the cards are something I would never send. I am now trying to use what I have that I love. Other stuff goes into boxes for the art teacher at the school where my daughter works.

    P.S. i have to admit, I've purposely bought things (pretty quilt squares, beaded materials from India, beautiful laces, etc, and I can't even sew! ) that I knew before even buying them I'd never use them. I buy them because for me they're my mood lifter, and often give me inspiration. They just really lift my spirits when I see them, so for me they are being useful. Maybe some of these items you won't use are sort of like that for you. Something doesn't always have to be used to be a worthwhile buy. I have them all in my drawer and evertime I look at them I find myself playing with them, enjoying all the beautiful colors and patterns...I guess it's my therapy😁

      Tiffany Solorio I think we limit ourselves by feeling that a supply has to be used in a certain way, when really we should apply creativity and do as we like. Our craft and art supplies can be used to decorate ourselves and our homes.
      I think a lot of people who just love paper, stickers, and stamps can only justify the money and time invested in their hobby if they are making something “useful”. That’s probably why card making and scrapbooking were/are so popular.
      I think it’s okay just to make a journal of colors and patterns that inspire us. Or to frame designer paper or fabric. I save and frame really cool wrapping paper. Or I will make a collage out of elements from different papers.
      I like photos of friends and family. And occasionally there is a piece of art I actually love (and can afford). But nothing moves me like designer paper. I also love hand made papers that art supply or boutique gift shops sell. Once I started framing pieces of it, I found that I no longer felt like it had to be saved for a special occasion and now I actually use it.
      I also love paper jewelry so I use designer paper to make beads ( there’s a huge variety beyond the rolled ones you typically see) and pendants. You can also use paper to decorate your hair. It’s pretty easy to attach paper to a barrette or a hair comb. It’s also fairly easy to laminate or transfer paper onto fabric and then make clothes. If you don’t sew you can always just decorate clothing blanks. Same goes for pillows, curtains, etc.

    • @sandraolson8635
      @sandraolson8635 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fiona Burky that’s the way I feel, too. My stash is being used every time I pull things out and look at them. Whether it be fabrics to make a quilt or paper to make a journal page or card, I feel like I am auditioning what goes together and get the creativity flowing. So if some stash items never make it into a project, they still gave me pleasure in reviewing them over the years. That’s not to say I don’t have some things I wish I hadn’t spent the money on though.

      Sandra Olson I love all the comments here. But I do want to reduce by eliminating those things I don't like so much and don't plan to use. I will keep the things I love, take time to enjoy them, and donate the extra. I like to work with coloured paper but I am more interested in using up supplies. It takes practice to be successful with something new. So try to use stuff up right away. And every card is for best right! Card people by the way are wonderful people!

Most of the papers are never going to be used More efficient to buy single sheets although it may cost a few cents more at least you are not hoarding stuff you do not like. I now buy packs of plain coloured 12x12 and add embellishment or 6x6 paper to that. We all see and think oooh I really can use this then wonder why we have so much STUFF 6 months later

    I liked your previous video because it wasn't bad products, it was based on what you really use and how little you use products that you really like. I am super guilty about that across all of my crafting. When I see a sale and like something, I am really bad at buying and buying in bulk for certain types of products. 2020 I am not buying anything that can go in my fabric, paper or yarn stashes. I can buy something if I need it now for a project, but no buying stashable craft goods.

    My take on this: We buy because we see someone make something beautiful and we think “ I want to make it too”. But then we have it, we don’t want to recreate it the same, so we make that one other take on it and then the FEELING is gone! Then we see something else and we do the same again. We start collecting and everything looks pretty and we start becoming “ collectors “ instead of “doers”. Sadly we need to be use what we have and I find if we encourage each other to use what we have instead of running out to buy the next best thing , that would be better for our pockets and our sanity. But I totally get what you are saying. I am guilty of it all. I have way too much and am way too invested in this crafting game. I like the idea of the challenge to use what we have. I remember how much more creative and happy I was when I had less! But now that I have so much , it has made me lazy and way less creative and I don’t like it. Thanks for sharing and letting us know we are definitely not alone.

    You are making me want to destash! The first thing I need to do is cancel my Hero Arts Monthly subscription. I think I have at least 3 years of their kits....have never used a single one! They are all put into gallon ziploc bags with dates on them so obviously they are out of sight out of mind (I kept them in original boxes with dates...but ran out of room for them...lol). I think I am going to head to Hero Arts right now and cancel in time to not pay for the March kit...so thanks for the motivation to do that.

    Your video no 1 on this inspired me to clear my stash. I packed a whole box with craft items I never used. Had not much choice with these items, as they were part of a larger pack or gifts. Either not my cup of tea or I simply have too much of a kind.
    The only thing I am not sure yet if I wanna keep it is my border punch. Never use it as I intended it when I bought it. I rather use the droppings as embellis and keep using it on leftovers.

    If you're a paper addict like me, one thing that I've used fairly regularly & plan to use more when I need some special patterned paper or designs to use and I don't want to go out & buy more paper is Freepik.com or any number of downloadable graphic designs sites to use for whatever purpose...if you have a premium membership on Freepik it is $10 per mo., and you can have unlimited use for most designs. You do need a good color printer and will use lots of ink if you print a lot. (and it's best to use 90 - 100 lb card stock...heavy paper. It's like printing on demand. Vectorstock.com is another good site for that, but more expensive than Freepik.

    Years ago, I bought lots of embellishments from dollar stores. I didn't use them often so I ended up donating a jar of them to an art group. Still don't miss them.Edit I make Christmas cards. I get several paper pads then didn't use them. I've also got Christmas stickers and other embellishments that I don't use. What you're saying encourages me to sort through my Christmas card-making stuff, and get rid of what I don't intend to use. For example, Charlie Brown and gang stickers. What was I thinking?! Further, with letters and numbers, I would rather get the stickers than the stamps. It is hard to line them correctly.
