      I love the glass part, but I never use the white area. I find it really gets in the way and my white mat is no longer white. I can do everything on the glass. I no it was designed to organize your work space, but when I’m in my designing moments I’m pretty messy. It is a really high quality product.

    LOL the tool is for when you need to deep clean your brushes. You'll use it with a little soap and water IF you ever need to. We recommend just rubbing the excess ink off on your paper placemat or even better - a microfiber cloth. We have a tutorial video on our TH-cam page, but from watching this video, maybe we should include a sticker that says that on the box. Thank you so much for your honest, and sometimes hilarious, review of our product. We appreciate it!

    A little “cheat” for you, since you still like your cutting mat. I use my cutting mat when I’m using a blade to cut through things (like you demonstrated with the acrylic ruler) so I keep it on my desk underneath my glass mat. It doesn’t interfere with it and if I need to slice something, I just lean the glass one up against the leg of the table, do my cutting, and then put the glass one back! 💜

    • @juliababyjenjenny8485
      @juliababyjenjenny8485 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I keep a cutting mat in the top drawer of my desk, along with my score board. Its easy to just pull them out when I need them (I use them a lot). You can cut on the glass, but I just want to keep mine smooth for as long as possible. The Glass Media Mat is one of the best things I've ever bought. I got it a year ago, and now I can't imagine crafting without it!

    • @AlphaGeekgirl
      @AlphaGeekgirl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@TGirl503 I bought a set of glass place-mats which I didn't end up using in the dining room. So I turned them over and ruled lines with a Sharpie, and then painted the backs with white acrylic paint. Now I have 4 glass mats, albeit, they are smaller than the Tim Holtz one, but having four of them means I can have multiple projects going at once (watercoloring, blending, embossing, gluing) and I can take them to the kitchen sink and wash them when they need. And they are easy to store if I need my desk to do accounts.

    I buy tempered glass cutting boards at my thrift store. I pay $1 Can and no tax. They come in a variety of sizes. There is a picture on the smooth side and little non-slip silicone feet. I soak the cutting board and remove the picture. The non-slip feet come off with the picture so, if you want, you can re-glue them. The glass is thick and the edges are nicely rounded. They are so cheap, I have several that I use for my gelli plate, for doing dendritic prints et al. I could buy the Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat but I prefer to use my money for other craft supplies....Carole

    Thank you for reviews. Nothing like seeing products taken fresh out of the box to see how big they are - or how heavy. Re the MISTI Cut-Align: I use a quilting ruler which has a slot in the middle for using your scalpel or cutting knife. These quilting rulers have been around forever and stand up to being used frequently & are very sturdy. They also have vertical & horizontal markings to line everything up and these rulers are way cheaper than the Cut-Align.

    I will say, the Tim Holtz glass mat is nice, but I have a different brand which I prefer. I have the CutterPillar glass mat. A few reasons: 1. The CutterPillar is a clear tempered glass mat as well, but it is white underneath the glass instead of black, which I prefer. 2. It can be purchased with or without a light source. I commented on Tim's videos more than once that I would purchase his if he came out with a built in light source for it as well, which he has not. I LOVE the light source for card making. I have used the light source many times in the few months that I've had it. 3. The CutterPillar comes corded or cordless. The cordless one has a rechargeable built in battery source. The one I have happens to be corded.

    I think a glass mat is a game changer. Choose what ever brand you like (I have Tim’s on my messy work area and We R on my paper craft desk). I like them for a few reasons- easy to clean, can cut on it, and it really helps me to keep a cleared area for working in.

    JD, watched and loved this. I am one of those people who will stay current on most tools. I don't automatically buy stuff unless I can figure out how it's used, what problem of mine it fixes and if I have the cash for it. BUT I hadn't heard of the strip stamp and die (got it for Christmas) and the brush cleaner. I did buy the stamp strip/die from your URL so hopefully you get credit for it! I tend to buy my trail breaking tools on a different web site because that web site will let me return it just because I didn't like it BUT in my defense I rarely do that and if I do, I tell them WHY I don't like it.... probably my wierdest one was returning a supposed rose gold foil for my Glimmer and that's when they discovered that the foils were not consistent in colors. I spend alot of money there now that neither of the 2 brick and mortar hobby stores stocks current technology for us scrapbookers anymore. Kudos to you, kiddo, I am a big fan!

    Two things. You will get a better blend with those brushes if you start with the brush off the paper and glide onto the paper slowly. If you start on the paper, you will get a blob. Secondly, that green thing is supposed to be used with soap and after not dry. :)

    Taylored Expressions - I'm hoping your products are being sold in Australia. If I can afford them I NEED, WANT, MUST HAVE your beautiful blending brushes, so please let them be here!!!!! Love that you have a little cleaner thingy to go with them. JD is very honest and she loved them.

    I was able to get all the same size brushes by buying them in pairs on Amazon. I have one per colour family like the Taylor ones and I just labeled them. Not as pretty but way cheaper. I brush them off on a rag between uses but if I use a very dark colour I wet the rag first. I’ve not had to heavy duty clean mine at all yet.

  • @3kidmama

    The brush cleaner is meant to be used with what and a bit of dishwashing liquid and then brushed on that mint silicone tool to suds out the ink. Then you rinse and set the brushes out to air dry (I think that was one a video on the company website about the brushes). If you want to clean off excess ink without going to the sink, just clean the brush off on a baby wipe.

    I have several of these products- Glass media mat, blending brushes, purple tape - and I like them all. I got the blender brushes the first day they came out. I like to able to color coordinate and they blend so well. I want the Taylored Exoressions sentiment stamps and die, too. That would make it so easy to have them perfectly cut out. I hate it when I cut them crooked. Waiting for your next video 😊

    Hi JD, This is the very first of your videos that I’ve watched. You’re very entertaining. I love Tim Holtz products. Nothing but pure quality.
    I’ve heard him say in videos that for most stain issues use hand sanitizer. It’s somewhat of a cure all. I’m on my way to binge the rest of your
    videos. Have a great day!

    Tim Holts did a Facebook Live today that had a lot of good information about the glass mat And its use. I like mine, I thought it was really neat how he showed the difference between using the glass and the nonstick mat for different techniques so I would recommend you catch it if you haven’t seen it yet. It was to launch his new travel size Matt and had the travel size been out when I bought my big one I would’ve opted for the travel size instead. My desk is pretty small and I use it for a lot of things but I do like the mat.

      I've tried both and still prefer drafting tape for a low rack tape. It's awesome.

    • @pamwaldron2566
      @pamwaldron2566 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Washi tape is very low tack and works decently for holding things in place.
      If you lightly press your painter's tape onto your clothes a couple of times before using it,the little fibers it picks up reduces the tack just enough to make it useful for pretty much anything and more easily removable without damaging the surface.

    LOVE your youtubes - thanks so much. Laughing my head off because you're not used to the new Tonic mat (LUSTING after one of those) and you keep dropping or just slamming down the items which wouldn't make a noise on your old mat, but it's really loud on the new one, hehehe, and also LUSTING after those blending brushes - so gorgeous - no labelling necessary, you have the coloured handles - sigh - (LOL an almost 80 year old lusting after ANYTHING is just so wrong on any level, LOL LOL). Am off to see the next one - you're hilarious! TFS. Bev from Sydney Australia.

    Your T-Ruler will sit over the edge of your glass mat to align with the measurements you need - you may want to use some of your painter’s tape to keep it from moving, but it really does work well. I especially appreciate it for aligning word stamps, even in my Tonic stamping platform.

    Hi JD, interesting video. I was interested to see you cutting on your media mat. I am in two minds about them. As an easy clean work surface, they are terrific, however, a) if you cut on them they scratch b)Lining up work for measurements is difficult as the grid appears to be etched under a layer of glass c)my first mat came with a chunk missing, the replacement the little feet came off out of the box. For the price, I would buy a piece of high quality tempered glass and lay it on top of your cutting mat. The sentiment die a "MUST HAVE'? Not if you already have a paper trimmer. Love your philosophy, get bigger storage :)) Thanks for taking the time, and expence to produce this video.
