    As a novelty I get it. At $400. It's a waste of money. It also comes off extremely hypocritical. It's a disposable watch that preaches sustainability. It's an oxymoron.

    • @MrShoryuken1
      @MrShoryuken1 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Agreed but Swatch Group don't give a hoot about the environment, just $€£!

    • @harryx6677
      @harryx6677 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Not necessarily disposable. It’s possible to replace the movement if needed. It’s a fun watch like a Fast n Furious action film, not meant to be an Oscar winning film like Oppenheimer.

    • @tailsneon556
      @tailsneon556 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @harryx6677 it is not. Sistem51 watches are sealed. It's absolutely disposable.

    Great video, and as an owner of 3 Blancpain Fiddys over the years, I don't mind what they've done. Don't love the execution, but it's ok, and I'm happy to see the Blancpain brand getting some coverage

      As an owner of two Blancpain am very happy with the execution the fully functional bezel and the system 51 rather than the poor man’s choice of the cheap quartz mouvement in the omega. The watch looks great and for once, we’ll be able not to service the watch but to replace the mouvement if need be. That’s already a massive plus which could justify (somehow) the price.

    It's an homage, I love the thought that went into the various bits and pieces you mentioned. As soon as I get to Montreal I'm going to get one (I want the Atlantic), I have the Moonswatch Saturn, bought and flipped the Moon and Pluto as well. Fun watch for us enthusiasts who can't justify $15-20k on a real Blancpain right now. Love the content Andrew.

    Bought it and love it. Doesn’t cheapen the brand for me and I own an expensive two tone Rolex sub and plan to buy the BP someday as well. The movement cannot be serviced but it can be replaced. Not a swatch fan but I am a fan of this swatch.

      If you’re looking for your only watch I’d agree 100%. If you’re a collector, it’s a really fun watch. If you can afford to burn 400$ to have a dun watch it’s really worth it. If you have 400-1000 and want to buy a watch as your dive or only watch you’d be fool to buy this one

    Picked a blue one up on saturday here in Melbourne. Queued at 5.15am with about 20 people in front of me. I left out of the store at around 11am. Bunch of kids there who were few spots before me immediately took photos of their watches and listed on eBay for $2100 AU. Which was to be expected 😂.

      It took 6 hours to sell 20 people a “cheap” watch? How? Did they let every customer decide which color they wanted for an hour?
      I mean, yes it’s overpriced. But it’s only a 400$ “want not need” item. If you want it, you’ll get it and it’s not a life affecting decisionnlike buying a car or perhaps a several thousand watch. And if 400$ is mad money for you, you really aught to be looking at a Seiko or something like that in the same price range instead, that will last you forever too🤯
      Congrats on the watch! 🎉I kinda like the orange one and i do like the seaslug rotors. I like the moonswatches too, but i really didn’t see a sensible use case in getting one. I still might though😅

    Much as I like the looks and spirit of them, they are essentially a piece of single use plastic. I was seriously tempted but give a few weeks and the clones versions will be about and they’ll probably have better specs (Seiko MechaQuartz, Sapphire Crystals and possibly a 316L case) for a lower price. What is service life of the System 51 movement? Probably considerably less than a MechaQuartz. The idea is a good one however with a bit more thought it could have been a brilliant one. Given the price, I’d have trouble convincing the Finance Director (Wife) that I need another watch.

    All plastic movements come from the Tissot Autolub back in the 70s, from memory 52 parts. I'm sure its where the System 51 was born out of.
    I personally can't stand these plastic fantastic Swatch watches, just utter waste of planetary resources.
    Nice video all the same Andrew.

    My take on why ‘scuba’ is part of the name is perhaps due to the early 1990’s Scuba Swatch rated at 200 meters. Recall, it is a collab. I had thought of picking up a Happy Fish (a model I had in the early ‘90’s). Then I saw this model on the swatch page! Very happy with my ‘Sea of Storms’.

    Nice education young man. Blancpain (5:30), it had SWISS on the dial and not swiss made. The only watch education I ever received (1970's) denoted the difference.😊

    It's the movement that's the only dubious thing for me. I've heard some very bad reviews of the Sistem51. Is this Sistem more like the Swissmatic that's featured in the Tissot T-Race? In that I believe that it's the same design but more of the components are swapped for metal. Supposedly the normal Sistem51 will gradually decline over time until there's virtually no power reserve at all! ☹️

    The presence of the "Drill" lug hole serves a specific purpose. Instead of employing spring bars, it has been substituted with a screw bar to mitigate the risk of saltwater corrosion, thus minimizing the potential for water ingress.
    When it comes to Blancpain, it's clear that every meticulous detail on their watches serves a purpose, revealing its significance when you delve into the intricacies. Appreciate the informative video, and here's to more enlightening content ahead! Cheers~

    Personally I think it's degrading for Blancpain to associate themselves with disposable watches such as Swatch (The actual Swatch Brand, NOT the Swatch Group who owns Blancpain anyway). Can't be good for their reputation for outstanding quality products. Having said that, I DO actually quite like these! I like the little nudibranches on the rotor, I like the colour schemes. I don't like the fact that they are cheap plastic shite, with a movement that can't be serviced, and that they are probably as easily broken as the 'Moonswatch'. No idea if these are claiming to be 'bioceramic', but either way, they are just plastic. Blancpain COULD have done these as a range of decent quality limited edition watches in their usual sort of price range. They wouldn't have had the same volume of sales, but at least they'd have still kept their reputation for excellence. How about next we have Rolls Royce cars in association with Lada....

    I'll mod yet another vintage Vostok Amphibia into what I call a "Fathomski" next week, and I hope that will suppress the urge to buy one of the BSSFFs at least for a while. If the pacific one had Glaucus atlanticus on the rotor, the choice would be easy and too enticing.

    Lord, what's up with you guys? You are the perfect cunsumers for our capitalist system, buying crap for ridiculous prices.
    A Swatch stays a cheap watch, no matter what additional brand you print on the dial. Got it?

    I've nailed my wrist to the Steeldive homage of the Fifty Fathoms.A far better watch in stainless steel with the Seiko NH35 movement,sapphire crystal,ceramic bezel and very servicable.The bonus feature being the price at least one third the price of the plastic ripoff from Swatch............................

    I Love my Orange swatch, bought in Barcelona AT the oficial store, I go to the sea every Day, and resiste all the situations, includings 3 inmersiones, que at 25,30 mts deep, the normal diving confortable Padi inmersions, I think that its real a BEST buy, no compare whith a SUBMARINER, Orís, or Panerai of course

    I heard (on another Channel... 🙊 ) that this implementation of the System 51 movement is technically serviceable, as the watch isn't hermetically sealed (like previous Swatch auto's) but has a snap-fit case back.
    If that's true, you could get it serviced and there are companies that will. Question is, could you be bothered? Those internal plastic parts look rather cheap & nasty. Levering the back off would probably mess up the water resistancy too.
    £340 for a Blancpain x Swatch? No Thanks. Nor will I be nailing my wrist to a board. I'll stick with my Steeldive SD1953 for 20% of the price and pocket the change. Result!

    $500 CAD for a $135 plastic watch? Hahahahahahah, No.
    Swatch sells stainless Sistem51 watches on their site for $245-335. Better watches for less money. Just like the Moonswatch. You can buy a stainless 3 dial chronograph Speed Up (Irony case) from Swatch. Better watch for almost half the price.

    Answers all the questions I had about this biocerplastic carnival-claw-game-machine prize watch. Lessee...$400 usd and delivered with the same disposable movement found in $150 usd swatches. Check. No nailing my hands to boards, since Jesus already did that for me; I do think I'd rather be stuck in the Falklands, camped out on on a canceled Ryanair jet for three weeks, before I'd buy this pretentious trinket.

    $400 for a plastic watch with a non-serviceable automatic movement? That's a hard pass from me, dog. And I know the bezel has 120 clicks, but being plastic, how does it feel? My guess is gross.

    The Moonswatch looks quite cool but these look like a child’s toy. Also it’s a £140 watch at best so you’re paying £200 blancpain tax 🤦🏻‍♂️ also good luck with that system 51 too 😬 it’s not got the best reputation for reliability 😬

    Yeah, but it's really not. The oldest brand in the world, it's the oldest name in the world. Because didn't someone buy it? That name for 25 grand and then start making watches. So it's really not the oldest brand in the world. I mean, the name is but people who make it. The history it's not any more. And if I was gonna buy one, i'd buy the real thing. Not this garbage after buying the swatch omega. I'd never waste my money on this. Who wants to pay $400 for a watch and online? They're already sewn between $1950 for something that if everything is perfect within 5 years, I'm gonna run no more and it can't be fixed, that's silly. You better off by yourself, a S E I k o
