Do you have to use primmer? What does it do? What do you do if you have cut off the flex hose and not left enough room to add to it. In other words you need to totally remove the old hose from the pipe and put the new one in.
Primer ensures a clean tight no leak gluing attachment! They make couplings and adapters if the hose needs to be cut in a certain area, obviously if there is no room we're the hose is damaged to add a coupling then yes you would replace the hose! Thanks for watching!
My husband and I tried doing this and had to drain 14,000 gallons of water. So I found your video. Bought the heavy duty cement glue told him how you did it. We have hard pvc plumbing and 2 floor drains in our pool above ground also. I’ll let you know how it turned out for us. I’m nervous with hardly no water in our pool.
Wow!!! Yeah that's the Tuff part having the floor drains they actually don't sell that style anymore or at least in NY! I wish you the best of luck ,let me know how you make out and thank you for watching!👍😊
Looking good! Clueless guy here, what power tool would you recommend for cutting flex PVC pipes that ensures smoother cuts, if not a sawzall? Thoughts on a multitool?
Great video. I've been trying to understand all the different PVC parts and how they are connected when installed properly. I have to admit, I get a bit overwhelmed when standing in front of all the PVC parts at the hardware store. What type of plug and size do you use for the drain hole at the bottom of the skimmer basket so the pool water doesn't come out when you begin a job like this? I have a plug for the return hole, but not one for the drain under the skimmer. Also, let's say you have 1 1/4 inch pipe, do you then need a 1.5 inch elbow or ball joint in order for the pipe to fit inside the additional parts?
Yeah it seems very confusing when starting off but normal pool pipe parts will all be 1 1/2 inch whether its screw together or glue slip together, it's not that bad when you sit back and look at what parts you need! Thank you for watching 👍😁
@@WhitehouseFarmVet First, thank you for replying. I really appreciate it. So you think a 1.5 inch plug would fit the drain under the skimmer basket on the pool then? I can probably get that at the hardware store I would imagine.
Yes most skimmer baskets have a 1.5 inch thread for plugs if you cant find one at the hardware store here is one on Amazon amzn.to/350jPiy Let me know how you make out and thanks again 👍
If you like leaks and constantly having to fix your pipes you can do it however you want but after 20 years and thousand plus pools with no leaks this is how I do it. I knew guys that would go light on the glue and no teflon no putty because they liked getting paid again to go back and fix leaks they called it job security, but I would rather have a happy customer with no leaks that would tell there friends and get me more jobs that way! Thank you for watching!👍
Yes definitely just make sure to put primer on then the glue and then give it a small turn while putting it together so you know its glued good! Thank you for watching 😁👍
PVC definitely will last longer than we will live! Lol but the flex pipe will last longer than your pool! So both are good options! I can say though if you live in the northeast like me with constant freezing then thawing you are less likely to have to replace the flex pipe because it does just that it flexes so less likely to break, but either will work great! Thank you for watching!👍😁
I'm thinking that using that much excess glue will weaken the fittings. You don't want glue pooling inside the fitting, because the solvent that it carries will diffuse into the PVC parts of the joint. This looks like a low-pressure application, so IDK whether it matters.
You can plug it from the inside top with a hillman,or oatey gripper expansion plug and then just tighten the bolt on it to expand the rubber core it will work for what you need! They sell them at all big box shops and local ace, true value! Thank you for watching and good luck!👍😊
@@WhitehouseFarmVet THANK YOU!! I am going to go check that out tomorrow. Tired of the "regular" hoses cracking, leaking or blowing off at the connection. Airborne!
If it was cracked and soft I would of, but the top half of hose was just discolored, and its still good! almost 2 years since i did this pool not published on TH-cam, I do know what you are talking about and your right I normally would replace the elbow in that situation, thank you for watching !👍
Thanks for this. Just put some screw connections on my pump and chlorinater.

Is that cleaner and primer more messy mixed? I’ve always seen it in separate cans.
Cleaner in 1 can glue in other can!

I’ve used wine corks to plug the high pressure nozzle

Before I started using a Sawzall I used just a regular hacksaw works good just not as fast as a Sawzall! Good luck and thank you for watching!👍

Isn’t that a bit much glue? And is it good to use that much Teflon tape, and use plumbers putty on top of it?

How long does that flex pipe last? I’m indecisive between pvc or that flex pipe to plumb my pool.

@@WhitehouseFarmVet your right 😂 yea I’m in New Jersey we have some harsh winter up here too unfortunately
Yeah its tough up this way, good luck with which ever way you choose and have a great summer!👍😁
How long does it takes to dry , when you glue flexible to solid pipe ?
Its really quick also depending on temperature but only a minute or 2 sometimes quicker!!!! Thank you for watching!!👍
Do you leave your system up over the winter?
Yes but I disconnect it and drain everything because ice can brake it very easily if water is left in!
what cleaner / primer / glue are u using?
Oatey primer and glue, try to get the clear primer, the purple primer makes it look messy! Thank you for watching!👍
Lowes and Home depot carry it!
What glue and primer is that ??
Oatey, you can buy it at alot of places like lowes home depot etc ,thank you for watching!👍

No it will not weaken it ,it just takes longer to dry, thanks for watching!👍
What size is that plug on the return fitting?
They are standard 1-1/2 here is one on Amazon for 6 bucks!

were do purchase the flex pool line/hose
You can buy 1.5 inch white flex hose right at lowes or home depot! Thank you for watching!👍
Anybody got any ideas how to plug a skimmer that DOES NOT have a threaded hole at the bottom? Its a doughboy slim line skimmer. Newbie here : )

what size fittings are those?? 1.5" or 2" or ??? tnx!
1.5 , 1.5 is your most common size!
You can save money and get alot of these fittings that are the same as hayward at lowes or home depot!
@@WhitehouseFarmVet THANK YOU!! I am going to go check that out tomorrow. Tired of the "regular" hoses cracking, leaking or blowing off at the connection. Airborne!
Awesome! No problem I like being able to help out, they also sell the white 1.5 inch flex hose , good luck and thank you for watching!👍😁
You should replace that elbow so you don't have to reuse that little stub of hose that is probably nearly ruined from sunlight.

@@WhitehouseFarmVet Okay, so the sun got to the hard fitting too. When you eventually put a new one on, paint it.
Never painted them before, but good idea to protect it a little longer!
@@WhitehouseFarmVet I don't think they rot much at all underground or inside of a wall.
@@benromine867 At least the elbow should have been replaced, and, to really do it right, the female adapter that the elbow screws into.
