Trying kaze guruma and kawasemi cutting patterns on tatami omote for the first time.
I’ve done these patterns on Wara mats before, much easier target to learn because of the softness of the mat

Really enjoyed this one. A new favorite.
Right on man
Wow, that looks like a really sharp tatami.🔝👋
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nic job on the kaze guruma. Although as you said the second cut wasn't perfect but this is one of most difficult combos to pull of with precision I'm my opinion
Thanks Karl, yeah coming back around for the second ones going to take some practice, I’ve been trying to learn kasumi too and the first cut is getting me trouble on that one, gotta be damn near perfect lol
Nice godan giri on ujto !
Thanks, happy with those Migi kesa’s
Very impressive,…awesome cuts!
Thanks Man
Very impressive brother ❤️🗡😎🤺🔥
Thanks
You're getting really good, really fast. Definitely had time to clean up the 2nd cut on that kaze guruma, but I totally understand the in the moment trying to get it as fast as possible.
Thanks dude, I already had in my mind that the first cut wasn’t going to be clean lol kinda screwed myself but I’ll get it soon
I’m impressed at the added difficulty of targets (putting the dowel in there = real shit) in regards to blade control and speed . I bet those targets are really unforgiving in regards to any minor mistake in approach too. great job man
Thanks, I’ve cut dowels before…it’s tough , I’d say it’s tougher than bamboo, these mats didn’t have dowels in them but I’m doing that in a mats next video, definitely got to be on point or it’s gonna be a bad time lol
Nice doubles!
Thanks dude
@@rmcswords Had to watch this again.
haha you're getting good too fast! Easy to be overly critical of the angles and placement.
Really not bad though!
For the kawasemi, you notice how the sword comes to a stop after the first cut, followed by left foot step to prep the 2nd cut. If you want to tighten it up, you can make the left foot step just a tiny bit sooner, just as the weight shift of the first cut has come to a stop. Might find the pacing of that step to add a lot more authority to the pattern just a fraction sooner instead of letting the pause go a full second.
I'm no kawasemi expert, just a thought. Might be worth experimenting with.
@@KF1 thanks dude, yep I’m going to mess around with both patterns and see what works, been trying to get kasumi and Jin patterns too, cut some 1” poplar dowels too today, tough target, loosen my tsuba on my DF Musha Shobu
nice
