    About time this helmet arrives to the rest of us mere mortals across the pond. Like Brian said, I first noticed it watching WSBK & MotoGP. So, I looked it up and the only places that it was available from was Netherlands and couple other obscured online stores. I have loved my R2000 ever since I purchased it from STG a few years ago. STG is always my first choice to get my gear. Love the informative videos, customer service and reasonable prices...not to mention crazy fast delivery, but then again, I'm in the next state over from them.
    BTW, I am diggin the R1 Air Corpus Phantom and my second choice is the Fabio Quartararo.
    My only question now, is since Scorpion has updated their 310 to 320, R410 to R420 & now R2000 to R1 Air, when will they be introducing the update to their R710 line? Hmmmm...
    Brian, love your videos, they are so informative, thorough...just the way I think and question items, projects/tasks and life in general.
    Keep on keeping on brother!
    (Loving the new intro with your son too. Great to see father & son time. Keep safe out there.)

      Thank you for all of the kind words and your support. This new Scoprion R1 is the real deal, great helmet at a very fair price. I have a plain white one and a Fabio now. I do expect them to update the RXO-R710 for next year. It is still a good helmet, but it has been the same for several seasons now. - Van

      It doesn't look like Sharp has tested the EXO-R1 Air Helmet yet. They have done the ST-1400 which is similar to the EXO-R1 Air and it earned 4 of 5 stars. I would imagine the EXO-R1 Air would achieve the same or better. That said the helmet that will come to the US will be different than the model they test due to the changes Scorpion needs to make to it so it complies with the DOT standard. - Van

      I got both at the moment. On motorway / highway it seems a bit easier to turn any direction compared to 1400 Air. Looks more aggressive, plenty of air, lighter, has dark and clear visor included but no drop down one. Similar foam, same fastening mechanism etc.
      My few gripes from commuting standpoint are too much airflow (still trying to adjust though open or closed vents I get tons of air) which is amazing in summer but will kill me in colder months AND second one is visor. It has a nice visor, but around edges it has weird distortion that made me look few times as if something was close to me. I am sure this is nothing major but still, freaked me out.
      All in all both are amazing lids - highly recommend. I got my R1 in fluorescent and deep blue gloss finish, looks amazing.

    • @sportbiketrackgear

      The first detent is strong and should be enough to support riding under most conditions with the shield in this spot. Having used this helmet I will say it vents well and the anti fog shield is effective reducing the need to ride with the shield cracked open. - Van

    • @sportbiketrackgear

    • @sportbiketrackgear

      IMO the safety between the 2 would be very close to one another. The performance of the Scorpion is also very close to the Shoei X-14, so close you may not notice the difference. I enjoyed riding in the R1-Air and felt comfortable pushing while riding in it. A great product that sells for a reasonable price. • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find them to both to be pretty quiet for how well they vent, almost the same noise level from them. The reason the size small is the only size with the FIM approval is it is the only size submitted for testing. As I understand it they would need to submit all of the individual sizes for testing to get the approval for each one. They have to pay for each test so they have only tested the sizes being worn by riders. - Van

    It's a pretty good helmet especially for the price I give. Jist a little too tight, and noisier than I care.
    How is this helmet in fit? Is it a long oval also?
    Does the sizing run tight as on the R2000?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say the fit is similar with some refinements made to the RXO-R1 Air. IMO both the 2000 and R1 are more intermediate oval than they are long oval. As for the noise level the R1 is a little quieter (not a massive difference). IMO any helmet that vents well will produce some noise. Best way to manage that is by wearing a set of ear plugs. - Van

    • @ryanfitzgerald7054
      @ryanfitzgerald7054 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      just got this helmet, it fits much more round than the R2000. Bummed about this big time since the rest of the helmet is awesome.. The R2000 definitely had a longer fit. Lots of helmets fit into the intermediate oval category, but HJCs are on the rounder end of that spectrum, and Scorpion used to be on the longer end, I'd say the R1 Air fits about equal to the Shoei RF1200 now.

    First thanks for the review have a question been looking at the designs on the R1 Air and like some of those better than what's coming in Jan Feb they match a blue visor better.
    Would you recommend I buy the European version the Air model so I can get those colors?? I am a shopper at your store so your truly not losing a sale but is it the same helmet minus the DOT test is it safe for track?? Thanks great review

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the kind words. I would recommend waiting for the US version for a couple of reasons. One would be warranty, Scorpion USA will not handle warranty claims on non US models. This is not a problem unless you end up having a problem with the helmet. Also you should technically have the DOT cert on the helmet for any street riding here in the US. Might be a good idea to check with the track org you ride with to see if they have an issue with non DOT helmets. As for being safe the sample I rode in was a European ECE only helmet and I would not have ridden in it if it wasn't safe. That said I did not use this helmet when I ride with Wera because the certs were not prominently displayed on the back of the helmet and I was unsure if it would pass tech. - Van

      Sorry for the delay, I had to reach out to Scorpion to answer this one. The helmet worn by Fabio is the same as the European small shell EXO-R1 Air Helmet. The only differences are the FIM bar code and his helmets are custom painted. The US version is both ECE and DOT. To comply with the DOT the US version is a touch different. Very minor as I understand it. With all that said I would be comfortable saying the level of protection we are getting from the helmets we can purchase is the same as Fabio has racing in MotoGP. - Brian Van

    Scorpion needs to get their act together and cough up the dough for SNELL rating!! Gettin' a bit too big now for their own good..... not like when they were just starting out offering SNELL left and right on every helmet with high quality materials in hopes of gaining a following, but now that they established a name for themselves, they are churning out helmets faster than the I Love Lucy chocolate factory with suspect quality!

    • @mouzakitrago5370
      @mouzakitrago5370 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I suspect the shift away from snell could also be customer driven. Perhaps not iintentional but lots of intrest in recent years has been on weight.
      It's easy to measure and somthing every review and website now publish and people compare the same at home. Size and aero are next most frequently discussed.
      So a helmet mfgr would use ECE to get the lowest weight smallest size helmet as it demands less for impact energy which allows better numbers in the more easily measured metrics.
