Love the R1 Air..very versatile helmet and it could compete with my x14. I wouldn’t mind having ECE over SNELL or DOT..one of the reason I didn’t by another RPHA11 carbon cause it’s only DOT. Great review my Guy!!
This is a great helmet IMO. Thank you for watching! - Van
Been rocking the white EXO R1 for about ten months. This is a very nice lid! Great review!
Thank you for watching and sharing your feedback. - Van
In your opinion is the carbon version worth getting over the regular one when choosing between the two. Is the bigger price of the carbon worth paying or not ?
End of the day it is the same helmet, offering the same performance and protection. - Van
Great review! I have this helmet here in Sweden. I can 💯% recommend it 👍
wish i could buy one hehe
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience. - Van
I'll add that I have the exo 1400 and it looks almost identical to this one.. I absolutely love everything about the helmet and wouldn't want any other
Scorpion makes a good helmet and this is a great example of that IMO. - Van
The 1400 has a sunvisor and therefore the controls near the actual outer visor, I think that breaks the cleanliness of the design of the R1 version, which has a clean side design
Scorpion Exo R1 vs HJC RPHA 11 Pro?
Both within similar price range and include tint visor + pinlock. I had my heart set on R1 but someone told me if you're paying for premium price you should get premium features like RPHA 11. They said Scorpion isn't as well known for premium helmets. Idk I just love the way R1 looks and both seem to score well for safety.
Having ridden in both I would go with the Scorpion EXO R1 Air over the RPHA 11 Pro. Comparing these two head to head I prefer the fit, performance and quality of the R1 Air. - Van
Had no idea a DOT/ECE version is coming 👍. While watching this video I got an email that my gloss carbon R1 (along with purple mirror visor) is coming from the Netherlands. I got it for a killer deal...Super bang for the buck helmet, crazy lightweight, and premium quality. Can’t wait! 😎
Yes it will be here in the next month or so. - Van
How was it ? Im thinking of buying from Netherlands too. Their price is so good compared to US stores. Plus is lighter because of no DOT involvement.
Who needs DOT anyway when the S shell size is FIM certified.
Edt: i got mine from Netherlands too. ECE only like in the video. Super light. Flat race face shields. Better pinlock 120max vision (us version is only pinlock70). Super happy with it coming from a large r2000 now i have a Medium r1 carbon. Gave me headaches at first but after 2 weeks it fits like a glove. 160mph all day no problem
@@elessar2619how’s the helmet? Does it have a DOT sticker? Did you buy from Championhelmets?
Thanks telling more about Scorpion Exo R1 Air!
You are welcome and thanks for watching! - Van
This helmet is awesome it looks great and is pretty light thank you for the great reviews you put on your channel. I wear a size large and it was a little to tight even after i broke it in but i got the thinner cheek pads and it fit perfect . My cardo freecom 4+ fit great and was easy to put in. I love this helmet and would recommend it to anyone it is a great value for the money. I think you have the best reviews of gear on youtube and watch a lot of your reviews before i get any new gear next i am getting he rst tractech evo 111 sport boots. thank you again.
Happy to hear the reviews have been helpful. Thanks for sharing your feedback on the R1 Air, I agree this is a great helmet. - Van
What is your head size if I may ask? Looking to buy it but have seen various reviews stating that it's better to size up. Safe riding!
I love my 2 Scorpion helmets (Exo-R1 air carbon and Exo 1400 air carbon), perfect fit, they are my favorites helmets with my Roof Ro200 carbon (lighter than Scorpion but a bit more expensive).
Both of those are excellent helmets. Two of the best on the market IMO. - Van
Getting ready to get one of these, I can’t decide what the difference is between the r1 and the 1400? Other than the drop down on the 1400 is there any other selling point’s?Seems like the r1 is favored a little more.
A 2.7 pound helmet that is ECE rated is pretty incredible. Is this an intermediate oval head shape helmet?
I forgot to mention that in the video. Yes this is an intermediate oval shape that runs true to size. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear thanks, Van!
Do you expect Scorpion will ever introduce transition visors? I'm spoiled by my aging Bell Star Carbon, and would like to convert to Scorpion for the value but I NEED the transition feature (trackdays and touring).
I'd rather buy this helmet with a transition shield, than the $750 Bell Race Star.
I have not heard of any plans for Scoprion to release a transitions lens. Important to note they do provide a clear and dark smoke shield with each EXO-R1 Air Helmet. - Van
You can try a universal transition pin lock
I just got the gloss version looks perfect 👽
This is an excellent helmet that sells for a very fair price. - Van
Is this helmet suitable for a naked bike like the Bmw s1000r or is this helmet more racer oriented? We naked riders take on lots of wind without almost no windprotecion on our bikes...
Yes I would expect this one to perform well as it has excellent aerodynamics. You also have the inflatable cheek pads and a chin curtain to help seal out the wind noise from the bottom. - Van
I just bought this helmet and have no road experience with it but i drive naked bike aswell. In my case the guy at the store told me that this should be very good naked bike helmet in comparison to Scorpions own st1400. It has way wider and "stronger" chin area which propably protects your neck better. Like i said, take this with a grain of salt as i've not been on the road with it yet.
I’ve been using an old scorpion r710 and need to upgrade. Im slightly more of a round head shape but the r710 fits pretty well. How would the fit compare to this r1? Thanks!
I feel like this one offers a similar fit to the 710. If you got a good fit from the 710 I would expect you will from the R1 Air as well. - Van
Hey Van, I am trying to decide whether to go with this Scorpion EXO-R1 or the Bell Star MIPS DLX helmet. Do you have any advice of whether to choose one or the other? I ride a Harley-Davidson Pan America Special, and do mostly touring type riding.
End of the day they are both excellent helmets that you will love riding in. With the Scorpion you save a little money and get performance that is on par. We have sold a ton of the R1 Air helmets and have a ton of great feedback. - Van
Would you say scorpion makes better quality helmets than ls2...have had a scorpion before and was quite pleased with it however have never tried on an ls2. Need a new daily helmet, any advice helps thank you
100% Scorpion makes a better helmet than LS2. - Van
Looking for answer. New rider looking for all round helmet, comfort, noise, quality, aero etc. Think I've narrowed it down to shoei 1400 or this scorpion exo r1. I think i like the styling a bit better in this scorpion, bu looking for the better helmet??? I'll be on a sport bike. No track days prob for awhile
These are both excellent helmets, either will put a smile on your face. If you see a graphic in either one that speaks to you then go with that one. With the Scorpion you will get the clear and the smoke shield which is a nice value add. - Van
Bought this helmet in size M a couple months ago (at a different store). Store staff helped me on sizing and sent me on my way. After a couple of rides at higher speeds I began to notice the helmet started lifting upwards. When I got home I followed a helmet sizing guide and got to the conclusion that my helmet is too large. (it rolls up and down my head) the cheeks however fit nice and snug thanks to the inflatable system. My question is as follows: Would I be able to purchase and fit a size S helmet liner into the size M shell? That’d save me a lot of cash instead of purchasing a new helmet.
The Small and the medium use the same shell so I would expect the liners to interchange. I know the cheek pads will fit for sure. - Van
Is this helmet good in splitting the wind at high speed? Coz I found my Shark race r pro (without GP) and my Arai RX7X (without spoiler) is a bit wiggle when doing this job
What is your head circumference if I may ask? As a reference because I want to buy it too, my head circumference is 56cm
@@donwiryo 58 cm, I ended up using the M headpiece and the S Cheekpads, the helmet fits a lot more snug now and I'm happy with the result.
Thank you for the review on the Scorpion EXO R1Air..Purchased one the other day and wanted to know more about comm. system compatibility. Can I use the clamp from the Sena or Cardo on the helmet, or do I have to use an exterior 3m sticker to mount a comm. system?
You should be able to install any of the universal systems that slip in between the shell the internals of the helmet with the EXO-R1 Air. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Thank-you
I'm torn between the r1 air and the st1400. I like the drop visor but not if it compromises viewing angle to much. How does the viewing angle compare between the 2 in tuck. Looking for a street helmet for sportbike.
The additional thickness in the brow will close the field of vision off a little. How much really depends on how the helmet fits you and the shape of your head. Personally I prefer to ride in helmets without any drop down. - Van
What is the noise difference between the r1 air and the exo 1400 carbon? I'm deciding between these two. I do not go to the track but I also do not use the drop down inner shield. I use it for city/back road/highway use. I like both but wondering what the real differences between comfort/noise/ventalation are?
Don't wanna sacrifice road comfort for track features if the r1 air is a less road defined helmet ya know?
I ride an upright naked bike
Or if you have any other suggestions I'm will to pay up to about $800 on a new helmet if it's worth it
If you do not plan to use the drop down inner shield the EXO-R1 Air is the way to go. Noise, comfort and ventilation are very similar between these models. - Van
How does this compare to the AGV k6
Which is more lighter? Quieter etc?
Both in medium and the agv medium small
I have ridden in this but not the AGV K6. The R1 Air is relatively quiet and the weight is very close to the AGV K6. We really like the R1 Air a lot and have a ton of happy customers in that helmet. - Van
What would be a better buy? Scorpion R1 carbon or the AGV k6? Casually driving through B roads, and occasionally trackday at a very beginner level?
I really like the Scorpion EXO-R1 Air helmet a lot and would recommend it over the AGV. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear thank you very much!
I have an exo420 in large and it seems to be a tad to loose after breaking in, should I size down this one to a medium or not, just wondering bc of the shell sizes if that would affect it
I currently have/had an ST-1400 Carbon for 2 years and I am considering upgrading/buying a new helmet... Would you say the R1 Carbon Air is worth the upgrade or should I wait another year or two? There is a $150 price difference between R1 Air Carbon and the ST-1400, not sure if it justifies the price increase as it looks like the only difference is that R1 Carbon Air doesn't have a sun visor. I just like the fact I can re-use all the face shields I bought for my ST-1400 because they fit the R1. The ST1-400 has been my favorite helmet I've owned (also nicest & most expensive helmet, I've previously owned an Icon Alliance and a Scorpion EXO-710)
If you are looking to replace the ST-1400 because you have worn it a bunch and just want a new one I would say the R1 Air would be a nice replacement. To be fair the helmets are pretty similar with the R1 Air offering a little better ventilation and a little better field of vision. - Van
What’s the difference with the ST-1400 ? Juste the built in sun visor? Thanks Van
That would be the most significant difference between these helmets. - Van
I may of missed it, but any update with the actual weight on the Medium DOT version of the carbon ? Thanks
The Scorpion EXO-R1 Air Helmet Weighed 3.15 lbs in a size Medium on our shipping scale. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Thanks
Love the way you review its real without all the sugar coating you see everywhere else.... any chance you could weight in on bike protection? Maybe a video or something i mean womet tech, shogun, woodcraft whats good vs whats junk on frame sliders loved the video on stands its why i have a putbull now
That is not a bad idea. We will look at getting that done this spring. - Van
Hi, I am considering this scorpion or the xlite full carbon rs. Which one in your opinion is the better helmet. Thanks.
I do not think the X Lite is anything special. IMO this Scorpion model is one of the best on the market today. = Van
Great video! Love that Scorpion & hoping to buy that one next to add to my collection
Thank you, this is a solid options for sure. - Van
I like this one I was gonna save and get the Aria Corsair but I might just grab this!
We have a lot of happy customers riding in this helmet. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear They’re all sold out though lol
Thanks for the video, just purchased one from you guys 🤙🏼

Looking into a more expensive helmet now that Iv gotten a couple under my belt. But also want the best bang for my buck, for safety, noise, fit. This being one of my top pics what would you suggest for less than 700? Iv had icon air flight(not a fan) and sedici strada 2. Not a fan of helmets with bilt in sun visor.. any suggestions van?
This helmet is 1000% better than the ones you noted. Order one, you will love it. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear thank you sir
Thanks for the in-depth review. I’ve been researching this helmet for a few months and this review made me pull the trigger. Although, I didn’t end up buying the carbon, I decided to get the fiberglass. The helmet is light and very comfortable but I’ve gotta say it’s extremely loud. It’s actually louder than my biltwell lanesplitter which is known to be a very loud helmet. Is there something I’m missing here? I love the aesthetics of this helmet and maybe it’s a one off, but what can I check to make sure everything is tight and not “leaking” which might cause the extreme noise? Thanks!
The better a helmet vents the more noise there will be. Comparing this to several other helmets in it's class this is not a noisy helmet. Also important to note how noisy it is depends on how you feel about it. - Van
do you wear earplugs?
@@griff1709 ALWAYS wear earplugs on the bike. Hundreds of 3-5 km long rides equal 3-5 100 km long rides, so stay safe no matter what. Once u worsen ur hearing ability, there is no turning back.
Im looking for the r1 or the exo-1400 air carbon because they have a drop down sunvisor. How is the dark smoke in all day light? What would you recommend?
The dark smoke screen is excellent during the daytime. For night riding you will need the clear for sure. That is the advantage of the drop down inner shields like you find in the ST1400. If you plan to ride only street and ride in the day as well as they night I would go for the 1400 with the drop down. - Van
Brian, Love the videos. I Just bought a bagger and I’m looking for the Absolute Best venting helmet? Have the Shoei neotec2 and I feel NO air 🥵
This helmet will flow more air than the modular for sure. Thank you for watching. - Van
How is the fit? I am looking at getting one of these. I fit nice and tight in size medium with Bell and Shoei, but I'm on the tighter side of Medium. Some helmets I require a large.
I would say this is a true to size fit. Use the size chart and order accordingly. I wear a medium in this and would say it is just a medium, not tight or loose. - Van
Can you do a comparaison between the R1 carbon and 1400 Carbon?
Both helmets are excellent. The best way to decide between the 2 is the drop down inner screen. If this is a feature you like to use then the 1400 is 100% the right choice. Personally I do not like the drop down inner shield and prefer to use a standard full face with a dark smoke screen so the R1 Air is the right choice for me. - Van
It's hard to overstate how great it is to have a tinted visor And pinlock included. I'm pretty sure I spent over $100 just getting a tinted visor and pinlock for my RPHA 70.
Scorpion is really hard to beat IMO. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear with this being said is the EXO-520 a better way to go for a street rider?
Hey Van I have 2 questions, 1 I wear a XL in AGV would it be similar? and 2 I live in Socal and how is it in high 90 degree weather as far as ventilation?
This helmet vents very well so I would expect you will be happy. This helmet runs true to size as do the AGV helmets so odds are you would be the same size. - Van
When is this gonna be available?? No one has it in stock anywhere. Also, do we have any news on whether or not there will be a 2021 Quartararo graphic for the EXO-R1?
This has been delayed big time. We are looking at June, maybe. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear okay, thanks for the update. I'll be on the lookout! I love my Matt Black variant. I want more of this helmet!
Nice lid! 👍😎🇦🇺 What Bluetooth intercom/music brand do you use and or sell the most? I’m looking at buying one, just can’t decide.
Take a look a the Sena line. The 30 and 50 models are both nice. We are using the new 50 in our snowmobile helmets now and like them a lot. - Van
How is the wind noise on these? I’ve got a cheap helmet that gives you a headache after riding for a decent bit and the wind noise is so loud it’s hard to hear the Bluetooth. I’m really interested in this helmet as well as the air corpus and would like to know how well they block wind noise
I have done a solid amount of riding in this helmet and find it to be rather quiet for how well it vents. You should not have any issue with the bluetooth. - Van
got the Fabio one last Nov looking forward to this riding season to test it out, also have the X14 Marquez from 2016. and yes it was nice to not pay 1K :P
I really enjoy riding in the Scorpion EXO-R1 Air Helmet. It's performance is super close to that of helmets that sell for much more. - Van
Is this helmet good in splitting the wind at high speed? Coz I found my Shark race r pro (without GP) and my Arai RX7X (without spoiler) is a bit wiggle when doing this job
This helmet has excellent aerodynamics. I find it odd you did not like the Shark Race R Pro. IMO this helmet has some of the best aerodynamics on the market. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear I was also surprised, but there was clearly a big difference when Shark released Race R pro GP with additional spoilers and the price increased considerably. The version with GP (Spoiler) may be much better in terms of aerodinamic
It's insanely humid in summer and I often get caught in heavy rain commuting 30-55 min each way depending on the day, near Daytona Beach Florida. No windscreen. What can you guys recommend in the $500-$600 area for my situation? I like k6, rf1400 and this scorpion, as well as arai defender. K6 upper vents have ruled it out though, 2 holes open to the sky. Any help is appreciated. Van, love your vids brother! I appreciate any input you and staff may have.
This helmet is awesome and provides the most value in the class IMO. RF-1400 is also excellent, you can never go wrong with a Shoei. - Van
Would you pick this over rpha 11 carbon?.What size do you wear for this helmet?.Nice review as always Van.
I measure 58cm and wear a medium in the EXO-R1 Air. To answer your question I would choose the R1 over the RPHA 11 Pro. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear im also looking to buy either rpha 11 or r1 carbon..which is lighter? And more aggressive looks?
@@pinoykillaz438 I have ridden in both and prefer the EXO-R1 Air a bit. Weight is pretty much a push with both helmets just barely over 3 lbs. - Van
This is now available in the US? I thought the carbon version is only released in Europe.
This will be here next month as long as there is not a delay. - Van
That helmet looks awesome but with a golden visor it will look amazing
I bought this in gloss carbon in March. Yellow mirror too, very very sharp. Lightest helmet I've worn by a longshot. 1200 grams... 2.64 lbs. Cuts wind like a knife and quiet for a race helmet. My favorite lid.
Agreed it would be amazing with the gold mirror. - Van
I bought the red mirror visor and it’s 👌🏼
On your site it states the carbon and corpus are the same weight (3.3lb), so really the carbon is more for an aesthetic choice?
Sorry we just weighed one. 3.15lbs in a size medium. - Van
The RPHA 11 fits perfect for me in size L, should I take size L for scorpion too ?
Im deciding between the RPHA 11 and the Exo R1 and im looking towards the exo r1 because of the visor problem HJC has with the rpha models...
Great video!
I wear the same size in both. The RPHA is a touch looser and easier to put on and pull off. Not enough to change sizes, just noticeable. - Van
Brian, can u help me understand what shell construction Scorpion actually uses in this specific carbon version? Living in Sweden the swedish retailer says this model is a carbon TCT, on another german website its a TCT ultra, on the american manufacturers site it's a TCT-u 3K carbon fiber shell. I understand that different regions demands different safety achievements to reach the DOT, ECE standard and soo on, but what shell is it in the US vs EU? Also, what's being expressed in the video as a "full 3k carbon shell", is it a 100% pure carbon shell, or is it a TCT-ultra with a sandwich construction with just carbon layers on the outside/inside with other aramids and glasfiber layers in between? Really confusing for a customer and a owner.
Would like to add that your high quality videos are being watched outside the states ;)
Keep up the awesome work!
Resin-infused TCT-U 3K carbon fiber shell composite weave provides aircraft-grade impact dispersal properties. (this is from the product description they supplied to us) I am going to assume the U is for ultra but will inquire to Scorpion. - Van
Magic Carbon
Everybody loves the carbon. - Van
Is the carbon model same weight as their MONSTER version?
Super close between the 2. IMO not enough to notice the difference while wearing it. - Van
How’s this helmet stack up against the HJC rpha 1N i can’t make up my mind
I have not ridden in that model as of yet but my expectations are the performance would be very close between the two. - Van
Where are Scorpion from? Good helmet. I'll stick to my Roof Boxer V8, though.
Scorpion is a French Manufacturer. However, their biggest market is the US one. They even produce some models exclusively for the US like the Exo R420.
Scorpion is a Kido Sports company. They own their own factories is a few locations one of which is China. They have offices in France, Seoul Korea (home office) and the US. They make some excellent helmets and apparel. - Van

My head is 60.5cm. do you recommend a Large or XL? My measurements fall between Large and XL
Depends on how you like your helmet to fit. I prefer mine to be a tight as possible so I would go with the large. If you like a little more comfort start with the XL. - Van
Why wouldn’t you want to wear the ECE only on the street?
Not legal to do so here in the US. All helmets used here must have the DOT approval in addition to ECE or Snell. - Van
Hello STG.Alpinestars Atem V1 (2012), I want to buy Alpinestars Atem V2 (2015) suit. Is it in stock and is it produced? Thank you.
Sorry the Atem V2 Suit has long been discontinued and sold out. Take a look at the V3 it is a nice suit. - Van
I have the Fabio replica. So this carbon fiber one is even lighter ????
The Fabio replica weights abour 1300-1350gr. The XS-M size R1 Carbon is 1150gr. It's actually insane how light it feels. Europe had this since 2020
Yes the carbon version will be a bit lighter than the Fabio you have. We will weigh the ECE / DOT version once they come into stock. - Van
Right now, I think I'm between this and a LS2 Thunder carbon...
100% the Scorpion is a better helmet. - Van
Hi is it FIM APPROVE?
I believe one of the sizes that is used in GP is. End of the day the FIM things is just another money grab. Snell and ECE certs are more than enough. - Van
Was this one not FIM approved as well?
I read that only the small passed FIM testing for Quartararo...
Most of the brands only certify the size their sponsored riders are using with FIM. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear I'd assume the sponsored riders wears the carbon version, but I can't really find any information on this. Curios if this carbon version is FIM approved in size small as the non carbon version...

Yes 100% any track or race org accepts the ECE standard. - Van
DOES IT HAVE BUILT IN BLUETOOTH?
No it does not have a built in bluetooth. - Van
How does this helmet compare to say, the K6 for track use. Objectively, irrespective of safety ratings ... Does it have similar fit and finish?

Also, will you review the X-Lite 803 Ultra Carbon?

Hey Brian. Great review! I'm getting back into riding. Right now, I have an older EXO R420, which fits my head perfectly. Should I expect the same fit with the newer line?
The EXO-R420 is a current helmet and the fit is very similar. If you are referring to some of their older models (perhaps the EXO-400 or 410) the fit of the newer stuff is refined but size the same. - Van
Great Helmet review, guys! Love watching your videos. Would you be able to list down the differences between this EXO R1 Carbon helmet and Scorpions' own EXO-ST1400 Carbon helmet? I've been looking to buy one of these two, and apart from the obvious differences in price, I haven't come up with enough differences between the two to justify the added cost of the R1. Any advice will be useful. Keep on the good work.
I just went out and bought Exo r1 carbon. I was also looking at The st1400. They shaped little bit different r1 having more of a "stronger" chin area which they told to be a better shape for naked bikes. As a drawback r1 doesnt have the integrated sun-visor if you are interested in that (for me atleast not having the sun-visor is drawback because i wear glasses). Allthought not having sun-visor makes r1 lighter than 1400. Also r1 is FIM rated helmet and 1400 is not. Tbh testing both of them in the store they both felt pretty good but the guy there was able to convince me to buy The r1. Both of them ridicilously light eventhough r1 is lighter still both very light. I dont know If this helps you at all i'm not maybe most educated person to be telling these but from my testing they both seem good options.
