    I've taken down vinyl siding on a house that I tore down and salvaged . I'm thinking about using that siding that I salvaged to close in a part of my barn to make a chicken coop since I don't have enough tin and I really need to use what I've already got so, this was helpful on understanding how to install since I never have and once I close it in I can install the siding and paint it to match the tin and make a little extra room in the barn. Thanks!

      @@therealme4552 Great tip... also eliminates having to cut both ends of the piece along w/ tack nailing it up there and doing the ladder dance a bunch of times.
      - measure from the bottom bird box to the foundation, add 1"
      - measure from the bottom bird box to the inside edge of the 'rake' overhang, add 6" in this case, mark your 7:12 roof pitch line and cut

    Awesome job. Wish I had watched this before I started. Was replacing siding on my Dads house that blew off during hurricane Milton. I’d never done it, so he was teaching me. He’s in his mid 80’s. We did a few things wrong, including putting in the nails too tight. Watching this 1st would have helped with all of the tricky areas. I’m sure there’s plenty more. I was lucky and just had 1 rectangular wall where all the trim was already in place as it did not blow off. Thanks!!

I was just casually scrolling through random videos and I came across yours. Man, am I super glad I found you!!! I really, really love the attention to details as you show each step of the job!! The reasons on how and why you do something a certain way is absolutely phenomenal!!! This is the very first diy video I found of yours, and I'm can tell you, you are the ONLY person I will be following here on TH-cam whenever I have a question or not certain how to do a project!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! for taking the time and patience in your videos to show us diy'ers the wrongs and rights of each detail of each step in whatever project you're showing!! Anyone following your videos will know without a doubt that the project they're working on will be done as good, if not BETTER than, any professional contractors!!! The attention to details might make each video a teeny bit longer, but the end result will be the absolute best!!! Thank you so much, again! I definitely look forward to starting my next big project!! P.S. - My projects will be done on a 3-bedroom, 2-bath double wide mobile home. Do you have videos on vinyl siding and other projects for mobile homes?

    Watching this because I started exterior painting a garage/barn. Its overall about 6k sq ft. Hate painting so very much! House has vinyl siding. Much easier to maintain! So here I am thinking vinyl siding for everything??? 😄

    The little grove inside the speed square at 2 in is for scribing a straight line easily there’s usually one at every quarter inch I believe on most squares. 👍

    All of this is making great sense, Im getting ready to install siding on an outbuilding. My question is this, You already knew the roof was a seven twelve pitch to fit the corner at the top, what if you don't know what the roof pitch is????

    • @jayjohnson4183
      @jayjohnson4183 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Put a torpedo level on the fascia plumb it up then put your square up to it. Whatever number the bottom of your soffit is would be the pitch.

    I really liked watching your videos very good on detail. I would like to see every step. You were going to nail up that 10 1/4 but didn't show it. I am about to take and install new pieces where the vinyl has cracked an or melted. Great smile, makes the video even more interesting great work

      Thanks a lot for this awesome comment! I appreciate it. I try to keep it detailed because people who have not done it before tend to like that. That’s funny you noticed that in the video about the 10 and quarter inch LOL. I hope you stay and watch some more videos!

    I wish every contractor was meticulous as you. I had siding put on in mid October and the following summer everything warped and looked terrible. The sub nailed everything too tight and the entire house had to be redone.

      Thanks for the compliment. I’d like to do it right the first time so I don’t have to fix it later. So being meticulous pays off. Yes there are definitely bad contractors in the world. Sorry to hear about your experience. Thanks for watching!

    I like making my siding cuts with a battery angle grinder with a metal cutoff wheel makes long cuts easy and slices through trim pieces too

      Another option if you have a lot of siding is to flip the blade on your Mitre saw so the teeth run in the opposite direction and it will cut the vinyl perfectly... I've used this when I did my house and the cuts are great..

    My house was sided with soffit on the sides that doesn't shingle water like siding does. I have to replace the sheathing with OSB anyway. Soffit and soffit hangers shot as well, saw that when I removed the back garage door and had to completely rebuild the rough opening.
