UPDATE: I can not recommend using a polyurethane adhesive! Use an MS Polymer glue (like Bostik MSR) instead! We seem to be having issues with the foam breaking down - maybe due to the adhesive.
Thanks for the advice. I cannot see, that you pushed the panels together while glueing? Did you only use the click system on the long/lengthwise edges? I am about to glue down today ....so a bit 'nervous' 😂 and thinking about the technique every minute. Good Winds
@@roaringforties2007 Good luck :) All I did was glue the entire underside. Insert a panel at an angle and push it down, forcing it to lock in place. I hope that makes sense :) You'll do great! It's very easy to install.
I was reminded of Liberace -- wasn't it he who claimed (with evident justification) that his guiding principle in all aspects of life was that "Too much of a good thing is exactly the right amount"? I think Eva's right to imply that mindset seems to have become the norm in the modern day US, although possibly she's young enough to think it's just human nature...
@@Gottenhimfella Human nature is a thing. Civilization has been wrestling with it for millennia.I liked that Eva commented, with humour, on the Old World's "living on a small foot" but was self-confident enough to insist on her aesthetic.
Ava thank God for us woman keeping up with the prettiness of decorations. Looks amazing. And your man did a fantastic job as usual on the floor. Brilliant work. Sending love from Australia xxx
Just wanted to say that this is the best produced video so far since becoming a couple's sailing channel. Eva was hysterical in her honesty! And Mads of course came through with a super spiffy result! Loved it and I think it is great to see you two figuring out the tough transition from lonely guy DIY channel to couple's sailing channel. I wish you two all the best in the world, and happy holidays.
Mads, a score cut first when cutting laminates with a circular saw, Makita do a panel saw specifically for this but a regular circular saw is quite adequate. You can also get a reverse cut jigsaw blade for worktops to avoid any possibility of scraggy edges. DC-DC converters use power so would have used a relay instead. We have two similar DC-DC converters for USB powering - 24-12v reduction and they have been working well so far (18 months use). The floor and lighting looks great, but it pales into insignificance against the Xmas lights! Well done Eva, and reading the instruction manual was inspirational, who'd have thought to do that, well non of us blokes at any rate! Great video.
Looks beautiful the floor!! An the Christmas lights look really great with Rudolph leading the way!! Love it guys!! Thanks for sharing your lives with us ✌🏻💗😊❣️
Love the new flooring. You guys have just about the best designed interior I have seen on a boat this size. BTW Cadoha has one of the most cathartic sailing channels out there.
You're killing me... Every time I don't have the time to Check up on you and Athena I have such a HUGE gap to fill but I also can't watch the others because my wish to buy and live on a more sizable boat. It feels like I'm missing out soooo many decisions - like for example why the Navigation bit is now next to the Kitchen and not in the tiny room next to it... So many questions I don't want an answer to but actually do Haha. Love the Videos matey!
Greetings from New Zealand.... Wow Guys.... Now That Floor looks Really Stunning.... Fits the 'Theme' perfectly... What a neat job, well would not expect anything else from you anyway .... :-) :-) :-) Must say that the Xmas Lights really transforms the boat, looks so festive. Thanks for Sharing your great vidclips, Keep well and Stay safe .... Cheers from Christchurch, NZ
I gotta say that Eva is hysterical; she is such a great addition to your videos and not sure if it was intended or not but she adds a certain 'accidental' comedy to your shows and we can't wait till Sunday now to watch. Her explaining the xmas lights was pretty funny! Rock on BOTH of you!
Wow, that looks fantastic. I've got to replace my salon flooring soon, already removing everything to do it. I think I'm going with the same flooring you have, it looks much better than the other options I have found and would be a very close match to my teak flooring in the fore and aft cabins. Thanks for all the videos! Watching them gets me excited to continue working on mine!
FYI, Circular saws cut on the up stroke, most chipping is caused by saw exiting the stock, so if you flip the stock so the show side is down when you cut it will come out very clean.
Dang it Mads, finish products get cut from the backside almost always. Saw blade is coming out of the top surface on the leading edge increasing chipping. Flip it over and the blade is entering the material on the leading edge preventing chipping. Give it a shot.
Hello, I am from Colombia South America, I have followed you since 2018 and your videos are very interesting, I congratulate you for your great work in rebuilding the ship, I hope you continue to publish videos and give tips to improve life inside the ship, happy week.
Awesome work on the flooring guys! I intended to do the flooring on my boat last summer but am glad I have been able to postpone that to a moment after your instructional video :D Glad to see Eva didn't hold back too much on the Xmas lighting too! Much love from the Netherlands.
I see lots of tips for cutting so I will add my 2. Put painters tap in the flooring and cut through that. And or if you can get a plywood blade add that with the tape. Great job as always Mads!
Great job on the floor! In some future episode, could you describe how you organize all the data on your shipboard systems? As a pilot, I'm used to operations manuals with various procedures, and then special sections for each type of emergency: fire, engine out, fuel contamination, etc. How do you handle trouble procedures, flow charts, connection diagrams, installation manuals, reference manuals, and the like? Do you keep paper versions of the data or only electronic PDFs, etc.? You have an amazing collection of technology on ATHENA, and I would not be able to keep track of it all. Especially after 6 years of development and configuration. I mean, I can barely remember what I had for breakfast, let alone how my TV is hooked up a year ago.
I think I never said it before. But Mads you are a legend! We have just start cruising our sailtrip around the world. But before we could leave we had a couple of boatprojects to tackle. Your channel gave me the confidence to do a lot buy myself so a big thank you for that. BTW you almost have a better boat then there is ever built. So congrats on that. We hope to meet you out there somewhere on a nice anchorage some day! Greets Bart.
Fantastic floor work Mads and Ava. Loved your dad's beard Ava. Now that the Christmas lights are up it's time to get started on you figgy pudding Ava. Have a great week ahead guys. Athena is definitely going to be spiffy for the holidays.
Please if you can do a video of the proper fire extinguisgers for electronics as applies to also where those should be placed in the vessel and the importance for a go bag and fire drills! Thank you for you epic work! Also very lovely flooring work and I worried a bit of the hatches under your floor seems all questions answered and Merry Christmas as well as Happy sails to you!
Sikaflex EBT (Screwfix stock it) is a polyurethane sealer, filler, adhesive and just as good I think, as the types normally sold for the marine and caravan market. Available in white, grey, black, Brown. It’s also available in clear but this seems have a different formula so it’s not so good. Probably cheaper than the stuff you used at about £7.80 or so a tube. Used extensively in mine and my mates’ Narrowboat fit outs. Greetings from NB Wordsworth on the Grand union canal in Leicestershire.
Maybe it is just a trick of the camera but it looks like the identical hatches are not perfectly in line without the stripes in the flooring. So while they will be perfectly interchangeable in theory if you interchange them the lines will not really line up correctly and look off. It's not the end of the world, but will require them to be marked with location and direction so that they can be put back in the right spots without drawing huge attention to themselves and really catch the eye as being "off."
Awesome looking flooring, Looks like a great product. And as always the installation is flawless. Defiantly need more chrisms lights, it's not bright enough.
About circular saw blades. It really helps if you clean them from time to time. Remove the gunk that sticks to individual teeth. If this does not help, then sharpening or replacement. And, always use the right blade for the job.
NOOOOO! Ava, never let anyone know you read the instructions! It's just another secret that just has to be kept! ;) NICE job! I assume the parade flotilla is a couple of weeks off? I can just envision next week's video of your visit to CaDoHa to be 4 TH-camrs in confined spaces with four video cameras in everyone else's faces! It will be a viral video in no time! :) The cabin sole is "lookin' mahvelous"! That red night lighting will be perfect for making the transition from the saloon to the cockpit at night! I didn't notice how you marked the outlines for the cutouts for the bilge hatches, though,
cut the floor with a circular saw, try putting tape e.g. paint tape on the top and cut from the back side with the saw so the teeth come from the bottom up on the nice side, then will only flange on the back
Love it. My 40 year old teak and holly is deteriorating. I've been watching for a while now waiting to see what you'd do. Well done Mads.

you can NEVER has too many lights.❤ The floor looks great 2x👍
I watch this channel for ages and I smile every time he says “A somewhat extensive refit”
I know, a total understatement 😉
That flooring looks very spiffy! Nice to see Flamingo Santa help out with the design.

Agreed!
Helpful tip: flip your flooring piece over, then use your circular saw to get a clean edge on the finish side.
I might add you can get laminate jig saw blades that cut on the down stroke.
@@magicmike5166 Yes, thank you.
Agreed a fantastic recommendation
But how do you mark the underside for cutting?
I was just heading to the comment section to write the exact same thing.
Pretty dang spiffy is a huge understatement! That floor and lighting looks amazing!
I actually whistled at that floor dry fit. Nice
I love the new floor! Great job on the install. No professional could have done better. Eva’s decorations look beautiful! I hope you win.
What a difference a Teak & Holly floor makes, Congratulations.
The flooring looks fantastic. Really makes a huge visual impacts. The Christmas decs are spiffy!
Out of all your boat upgrades Ava is my favorite one.
That flooring does indeed look fantastic!

Flooring, kickboard lights and festive sprinkling lights are mega spiffy....👍🏻
Definitely worth a “pretty dang spiffy” can’t wait to see the finished result…
Dang guys, the flooring is AWESOME! Great job. Oh, and the Christmas lights too.
The multi talented Madz never failing to impress with a huge toolbox of skills. Another excellent finished project. 👍
The new cabin sole with teak & holly always a great look & feel . Happy Holidays from sunny Cal.

Great flooring !!!
Congrats on finally getting to 100k subscribers, it was long overdue!

Remember it is not just the voltage you have to match. To be safe you need to match the circuit breaker amperage to the wire size.
