    This reunion is so frickin realistic. You can see how Rumple had thought this all through but it was one-sided. And then you’re finally standing there with this real live person in front of you and the pain and messiness of it all suddenly so incredibly *real*. And there’s just nothing you could’ve done to prepare for it.
    Does that make any sense whatsoever? Lol

    I don't know if this was intentional on the actor's part, but Baelfire makes a lot of little gestures and movements when he talks to people, sort of like what Rumplestiltskin does.
    Bae likes to sway from side to side, look left and right, touch his face/hair, roll his eyes, move his arms, and make gestures with his fingers a lot.

    I love this scene! In my opinion, Neal has EVERY right to hate Rumple, he chose power over his son and he's *still* trying to use magic to fix everything! It'd be different if Rumple learned from his mistakes and actually tried to stop using magic and prove that he could be a good father again but does he do this? Nope, he's still the same guy, still uses magic and people to get what he wants! I know Rumple regretted leaving Neal the minute it happened and spent a long time trying to find a way to get back to him, but *he* could have chosen his son but he didn't.
    To be honest, it's actually great, for me anyway, to see someone be angry and argue with the one who's supposedly a parent but just abandons you for selfish reasons! What does rumple expect just for Neal to welcome him back into his life with open arms like nothing happened?! Although I did feel bad for rumple when Neal told him "no, I didn't get closure so you don't either. We're done.".

    • @DgardsGaming
      @DgardsGaming 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I mean you can kind of see both sides also considering your comment as one year ago this is after the part where you see how rumple actually erased his sons memory to save him from being corrupted by magic as a kid.

    I think that Rumple in Season 4 is ingenious. Honestly, Baelfire and Belle are his life, no matter what. He spent centuries looking for Baelfire, and that search is not only what kept him sane but also encouraged him to join the good side. I feel that Bae dying for him probably left a scar in Rumple- like he was not powerful enough to save Bae and himself. This scar led to him resorting to power again and becoming evil when Belle banished him, and he lost both of the loves (Bae and Belle) of his life.

    Rumple should’ve met Bae in the afterlife instead of Belle. Yes she was important to him, but the whole story started because of Rumple’s motivation to reunite with his child. It would’ve been a more satisfying ending if his final scene on the show was that very reunion, never for father and son to be separated again.

    This scene makes me want to kick August in the teeth. Rumple laid himself bare in The Return. He was totally vulnerable, humbly and honestly apologizing and asking for forgiveness. Can you imagine how he felt when his 'son' accepted it? That horrible burden of guilt finally lifted? It had to be the happiest moment of Rumple's life. And then August socked him in the gut with his deception. Not wonder he's hiding behind the "Let me fix it with magic!' clause here. Poor Rumple AND poor Baefire.

    Also, Belle has enabled Gold WAY too much and it's clearly showing here. She's managed to convince him that in spite of all the evil things he's done (and still does the second she's not around), that he expects the same from Bae. It never occurs to him that he might have to work for redemption because Belle always gives him a free pass and he never has to. Its easy for Belle to say he's good when she's always managed to talk him out of doing evil when she's around; Bae didn't have that luxury.

  • @dani010203stor
    @dani010203stor 11 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    But when Hook told that to Bae, he didn't believe Hook. He said something like "i bet YOU took her heart off". It could have been that he was too much angered and distressed because he thought he finally has found a home and a kind of family (hook and his crew) but then he found out that Hook was the cause of why he hadn't his mother any more (for one reason or another). So i think rather he truly thinks Hook killed her, or he prefers to believe it.

    right, everything happened in a breath (when Rumpel choose "magic" over his son) i think that can't be considered as a completely choice. He was afraid, he had lived a life of misery and pain UNTIL magic arrived in his life. Magic also was the reason of why Bae is still alive. So one can't just blame him for be afraid. At the instant he realized what had happened he implored to go with his son. And has dedicated his life to find him

  • @lpallad1
    @lpallad1 11 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Technically we can justify Rumpelstiltskin saying that what he did was more an impulse than a choice. At least he did everything to try to find him, while his mother, even if it is declared repented, never came back to get him (although the hook, however, said that they just wanted to wait for her to grow up before doing so). But in fact, however, Bae has every reason to be angry with his father.

  • @soozeeq2
    @soozeeq2 11 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I felt so bad for Gold...but his idea of turning the clock back and taking away his memories is absurd. Bae just discovered the son he never knew he had...his experiences over the last 20 years has made him who he is...why would he think Bae wants to forget Emma and his son. Gold needs to realize that magic and power is not the answer...some things you just can't fix. He needs to learn from his past mistakes and try to build a new relationship with his adult son.

    Now that I've seen the last two episodes of season 2, this all makes sense. And yes, (spoiler alert) Bae did go to Neverland, where he learned (another spoiler) that his mother was killed by Rumple. Now there's even more questions. If Bae knew the whole time that his father killed his mother, why hasn't he called him out on it yet? That doesn't make sense to me. And I totally agree that Rumple should have used the speech on Bae that he used on August.

  • @BrokenTourniquet
    @BrokenTourniquet 11 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    There is so much wrong with this scene here. For starters, Gold's speech to August when he was under the impression he was actually his son was much more heartfelt than this one. He owned up to what he did and apologized ; here its like he's saying, "Hey, try and see my side of things here. I know I screwed up and you suffered for it, but I've got my problems too."

    Eh I wouldn't have handled the situation like Rumple did. I would've explained to Neal why I let go him whilst we were above the portal. Then I would just say "I'm sorry for what I did. I wish I never did it. All the pain you experienced because of what I did.. I wish you never went through it. I'm so sorry you did. Please forgive me." At this point he has apologised for everything, said he wished Bae hadn't gone through the pain he did as a result of Gold's actions so I think Neal would have to forgive him.

I know that I hurt you, and I understand if you wouldn't forgive me, I have certainly never forgiven myself, but - I can't take it back. I _can't_ change the past, and I don't even know if it is possible to make up for the lost time, but I can offer you as much of the time we have ahead of us as you like, if you want it. Please, give me a chance."
    If he said this, or even the same line he said to August in this scene: th-cam.com/video/1dcKWomMFtA/w-d-xo.html

    Technically, however, she was strict when it came to honesty, keeping promises, and kill. This series shows us just that is not easy to redeem a person, and that in some cases you have to have understanding and patience. Belle could help to improve him because it is past above all his past crimes. Anyway, Rumpelstiltskin was not completely naive. After all, even after this conversation did not give up the hope of peace with his son. He had expected that it would not be easy anyway.

    I couldn’t stand how Neal treated Emma but I wish that he hadn’t died. Henry didn’t get a chance to know his father. I think if Neal had lived that Rumplestiltskin would have been a better grandfather to Henry. Henry was the last link to Neal and he didn’t even try to bond with Henry.

(specially because it saved his son's life). Now he has magic again, he returns to the safe thing. It's like a drug, or wine for alcoholics. Rumpel has always relied on magic. As he said, its a crutch that he can't walk without. Baelfire has always been the driving regret and and love in his life that kept something human in him which Belle could find and bring out. His offer to turn back the clock for Bael is simply his astonishingly clumsy and unworkable solution for this problem. To take everything back to how it used to be when he was still Bae's 'poppa'. So don't beat Rumpel up for it. It's the wrong idea, but he means well.

  • @soozeeq2

    That was because he already knew she was dead (in fact he thought she was dead years before her truly death). But after being abandoned by his father, find out that he has been abandoned by his mother too was too painful. Also if you watch that scene again, he yells at Hook something like "i bet YOU took her heart off". He think, or want to think, that was Hook who killed his mother, not Rumpel.

    We SHOULD expect Rumple to say the wrong thing because he's a desperate man. Remember what Belle said in episode one, ' you're still a man who makes wrong choices...I thought you had changed.' Rumple screwed up then by responding with ' what?...in the hour you've known me?' Rumple still thinks magic and power is answer and that has always been his go-to solution for life's problems. In this case, however, his desire for power & control is what drove them apart.

    one thing that was cute that I noticed in the beginning and its not just small glances around the room. But did you notice where baelfire kept looking towarrds the window it was actually cute good acting michael. It was actually pointing out where he'd much rather be. Baelfire may still care for his father but due to his issues he would much rather have his father gone and to be left alone with his newfound son and ex-girlfriend.

    It's true that Bae doesn't approve of Rumple using magic to 'solve' his problems and bend others to his will. However, I think that Bae went through a lot during the time separated from his Father and those experiences (both good & bad) made him into the person he is today. Also, he just found out he has a son he didn't know existed. I guess this comes down to power and control. Where Rumple wanted power over other people, Bae wanted power and control over his life and he didn't have that at 14.

  • @dani010203stor
    @dani010203stor 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    you are right. he hasn't learned anything, Its such a sad scene because like Bobby said in an interview, after all those years that's all he has to offered. He didn't stop to think what his son would feel. He was offering to him what HE wanted: make like nothing has happened. He think Bae has spent his life as him. frozen still he could find his papa. But no, he went on, and made a life. And Rumpel is asking him to take away all his life to pretend nothing has happened. too selfish..

    There's a theory floating around about Bae having gone to Neverland first and he is also Peter Pan. Possibly..but one issue I have with that is, Peter Pan was the boy who didn't want to grow up. Here, Bae is incredulous and says 'I don't want to be 14 again..what? are you insane?' Doesn't sound like something Peter would say.

  • @soozeeq2

    For Rumple, as a coward he felt powerless and wasn't taken seriously by others until he had The Dark One's power. Once he possessed it...even though his initial intentions were good, he found that liked intimidating others as he had been his whole life. He lost sight of his original plan and as a result lost he son as well.
