ArtistWizard Quite. People like that refuse to acknowledge the fact that they are people. They have to show that they are richer, more prominent, maybe smarter. Lord knows that they couldn't possibly LIVE without their "civilized nature" or their "class". The very fact that they need to shove such traits in everyones face, manifests that they never truly had these traits in the first place! This is an ironic situation, being that these traits appear to be the only thing keeping their ego from crashing down on them. 😀
I think I could watch people writing all day long. This should be a TV channel. They have one for fish and fireplaces, but this is way more relaxing and inspiring at the same time.
I'm a hardcore computer guy. However I love using fountain pens with high quality paper. I even love using typewriters and have an antique Underwood. Thanks to guys like this the art will not only continue but increase as a younger generation gets into the analog way of doing things.
I love watching people write calligraphy. There is something about the act of it being written that is just beautiful. Don't get me wrong, I like the finished product too, but I love watching calligraphy in progress. :) It's not something I can do.
Hi Everyone! So sorry it has taken me so long to reply to this - been moving the studio and then unpacking and resetting up plus all the work that is on. Really does take it out of you. We are planning on doing more, and regular, vids - write in to let me know what you would like to see hope you are all well Paul
Paul, excellent presentation! I will soon be purchasing my first fountain pen and I didn't know or think about the types of writing. Thank you for the insight.
FINALLY!!!! I have been searching, ever since I took an Art class in college, for simple instructions for using a fountain pen. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!!!
I love it when people are really awsome at something and just share their knowledge for free. I have no use for this in my life and i will never be able to do such things, since i cut my right hand in half, but is really like what you are doing here :)
I would have liked to have seen what it looks like doing everyday writing, eg, taking notes in class. Is there a fountain pen you'd recommend for left-handers?
Thats really cool! I feel like most people get intimidated when they see the fancy formal ornamental writing with it, when really most people just write normally with no pressure and have an amazing writing experience
Which fountain pens are you using? I am fairly new with fountain pens and the one you use towards the end of the video looks amazing. What is the name of that fountain pen?
I'm curious what paper you use, as when I've tried to write with a fountain pen, I get so much bleed onto the paper that my final product seems fuzzy in comparison. I'm also curious about dip pen ink consistency - I either run out of ink before I'm done writing more than 4 words, or else the first three words are blobby while the last three are scratches. So frustrating! Clearly more practice is needed. ;)
I bought set off amazon, the "Calligraphy Masterclass" pack that comes with a small booklet on "A beginners guide to the beautiful art of calligraphy" as well as a fountain pen, several nibs and some ink cartridges. The pen seems to have a mind of it's own, working only when it wants to, on it's own terms. Is it because I bought a cheap one? I would imagine pushing down on paper (lightly or with decent force) should be enough to get a consistent flow of ink, but no such luck.
For those saying "Left handed pens", there are quite a few sites out there that call bs on that notion. A few (high in the google rankings) show styles of writing for lefties that can be done with any nib or pen. It's not hard and you don't need any special equipment.
True, being a left handed fountain pen user myself I have never had any difficulties. However, Lamy do make a left handed nib, which makes a WORLD of difference.
PartiZAn18 Aye, but that's basically because they have a bigger, rounder ball of tipping. The reason it feels different is because it's smoothed in basically every direction. It's designed so that when you're pushing the tines (which leftie's tend to do), it prevents the nib digging in and causing skips / scratchiness / etc. (Disclaimer: This is my own understanding from research, I'm by no means an expert)
WirlWind I agree with everything you just said. Alas, the rounded nib is indeed designed for left handed writers (as we do tend to push the pen across the paper), a right handed user using a LH nib will theoretically not notice any difference in usage but for a left handed person it is very discernible :)
Hi Paul. I have a Mont Blanc fountain pen that won't fill up. I'm trying to refill in with blue ink and the ink won't go into the pen when I turn the end of the pen. Any ideas to get it to work?
@kotapaka I recently got a Parker Frontier. But i think that a smaller fountain pen will be better for everyday use. The frontier is just too big. I will look at the lamy.
I am thinking about using a fountain pen and this video is very informative. I see that practice makes perfect. I'm currently looking for a pen and there are many out there.
Do you need a separate bottle of ink to dip the pen in? Is this mandatory or can it write on it's own? I got one as a gift and I wanna try it out but it doesn't work.
I tired a £2 fountain pen and really like how it feels. I've thought about getting a better one but dont want to spend a fortune on one. Got any suggestions
Can you suggest me a very good or excellent strong and very durable and smooth fountain pen for every day use, name and price please ,not a cheap one , neither too much expensive not past 900$. And what are you using there for instance! Thanks.
@kotapaka Yes, while a pen is as basic as the knife, fountain pens are normally quite difficult to use if you have never used one before such as myself.
I love it Have a big collection in my reading room My ma always says Why you waste money like this, she doesn't understand what it means to me Always wanted to be a writer I don't know But it's like this From my childhood till now Whenever I hold this It's help me, encourages me, To write Really don't know what's the connection, but I love it
@kotapaka It might seem funny, but there are people who don't know how to hold a fountain pen, let alone write with one or fill one. Some will write with the nib upside down, press hard on the nib, try to force a twist cap onto the threads, or pull it off, jam a slip cap on farther than it's meant to go, etc., and so on.
Pilot Varsity are round nib pens. Paul here is writing with italic nib fountain pens in this video. Those are square where they touch the paper and creates a wide line.
Comments here be like: "Oh my God Paul, write me a baby!" But seriously, his hand writing is like a piece of art in the making. I can watch him write for hours. Beautiful.
I want to get a fountain pen and do not know where to start. Id like a pen with a built in filling method so I can use any color but which brand should I look into for a beginner?
I suggest buying it on Ali express because it will be inexpensive and still good and of you don't like it it's not a waste of money I bought one for 90p and it's very good
+AndrewKidd14145 for normal writing fountain pen: Pilot varsity. It is sort of like a ball point pen but it is a fountain pen. You can get them for around $5 at Hobby Lobby or any other arts and crafts store.
This guys voice is as magical as his writing
Haha, well said!
I was thinking the same thing! Ahhhhhhhhh, I'm in love!!
True😂 kkkk
This guy has so much class, but he does it without sounding like a posh snob.
ArtistWizard I think it’s just a Deep South American Spanish or Portuguese accent

I appreciate that this guy isn't of that insufferable sort!
knowing calligraphy doesn't make you classy.
That's why you are here
I think I could watch people writing all day long. This should be a TV channel. They have one for fish and fireplaces, but this is way more relaxing and inspiring at the same time.
The Bob Ross of handwriting 😂
Why do I feel like you have to own a closet full of tuxedo's and top hats to watch this video.
Don't forget the tea and crumpets
Ramel34 😂
Licky Time lol
Don't you have it? :^)
I have a closet of pocket watches and other time pieces, does that count?
Dude's handwriting is smoother than James Bond
Daniel Blanco R not the last one tho... Lool
13 nos and a yes is a yes
Same with his voice.
When he said handwriting as a casual thing & then I saw his letters & I'm like 😲😳🥺 oh....
I'm a hardcore computer guy. However I love using fountain pens with high quality paper. I even love using typewriters and have an antique Underwood. Thanks to guys like this the art will not only continue but increase as a younger generation gets into the analog way of doing things.
Writing by hand is an experience in itself that a keyboard will never replace!
Amen to that
I want this guy to voice my GPS
+thomas beech
I would go Gay for him even if he told me to go straight.
+Andrew Carroll Probably for the best that he isn't a GPS voice then ;)
Anaru Carroll lol
Same
I was going to comment I love his voice
I came here to learn calligraphy and now I'm just watching the videos for his voice and the music.
we're three
I am Patrick Perry, From youtube upload, If you want, Click Subscribe.
😂
HONESTLY...SIR, in my eye, you are in fact the pen MASTER! I applaud you sir.
I agree with you.
Great video!
I personally think it is very honorable for him to be doing this. Keeping the art of calligraphy alive. He should be very proud. Great job Paul! " :)
This dude seems like such a nice guy :D
I saw your picture and immediately thought you were a bear cub I am so not sorry
Gay
:O i want to see this guy's signature
watch it be super messy hahaha
Matt lol
I love watching people write calligraphy. There is something about the act of it being written that is just beautiful. Don't get me wrong, I like the finished product too, but I love watching calligraphy in progress. :) It's not something I can do.
*yet
Or for therapy videos
This has got to be the coolest guy that ever existed.
Such simple exercises, yet they clearly show a lifetime of mastery and refinement. Well done Sir!
This guy is classy as all fuck.
Step one: don't be left handed
Andres Gort most users of fountain pens are lefties, just as i am
I am left-handed too, just tried to be funny. But that doesn't really work out for me
Andres Gort Haha, alright then.
Andres Gort really im a lefty
step two: Step one doesn't matter
Hi Everyone! So sorry it has taken me so long to reply to this - been moving the studio and then unpacking and resetting up plus all the work that is on. Really does take it out of you.

Hey Paul Really Liked The Video, Having A Studio Set Up Tour Would Be Superb,
Terrific ! thank you Paul !
tell me why I read this with a British accent
charismatic writing bhai.
OMIGOD he looks so fancy and sophisticated
this guys squiggly lines are perfect.
I could listen to you all day. Not because of the accent, but because of the tone. It's so soothing.
you can and should use your voice for reading or for dubbing
Paul, excellent presentation! I will soon be purchasing my first fountain pen and I didn't know or think about the types of writing. Thank you for the insight.
I like this guy. Very enjoyable and I've upped my game in calligraphy in two weeks off of only a few videos.
FINALLY!!!! I have been searching, ever since I took an Art class in college, for simple instructions for using a fountain pen. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!!!
I love it when people are really awsome at something and just share their knowledge for free. I have no use for this in my life and i will never be able to do such things, since i cut my right hand in half, but is really like what you are doing here :)
that disappointing moment when you dont write "my name is tom riddle"
or john cena
what a voice.
thank you very much
I would have liked to have seen what it looks like doing everyday writing, eg, taking notes in class. Is there a fountain pen you'd recommend for left-handers?

How elegant, classy and proper... Now i feel like a run of the mill commoner!!
I don't know why, but this is oddly satisfying
his regular handwriting is beautiful. Let alone the formal structured writing. Inspiration...
This guy is pure awesomeness.
He is so refined and so is this video, he must be a god sent down to earth.
Where can I find music that's like the music playing in the background ??
I'm curious what paper you use, as when I've tried to write with a fountain pen, I get so much bleed onto the paper that my final product seems fuzzy in comparison.

Its such a thrill seeing this guys writing!!
i knew I shoulda used my stupid cursive handbook
thegr8pulido me too
Well, amazing skill! The informal writing looked challenging, the formal one just impossible without proper training.

This video is awesome. Also, THIS MAN HAS A STORYTELLERS VOICE AND ITS AWESOME. In my opinion
Such control. I wish I could.
so impressed with your style. I love to write with different pen specially fountain pens. lucky so I have many pens specially dip pens.
this guy is awesome an so is his handwriting !! thx for this vid. an nice background music!
Hi Paul. I have a Mont Blanc fountain pen that won't fill up. I'm trying to refill in with blue ink and the ink won't go into the pen when I turn the end of the pen. Any ideas to get it to work?
Calming to watch. If I had good handwriting this would be one of my top hobbies.
This guy’s voice perfectly coincides with calligraphy etiquette.
@kotapaka I recently got a Parker Frontier. But i think that a smaller fountain pen will be better for everyday use. The frontier is just too big. I will look at the lamy.
If I use a fountain pen with a cartridge and I'm done writing, can I just close the pen or must I clear the ink off the nib first...?
I am thinking about using a fountain pen and this video is very informative. I see that practice makes perfect. I'm currently looking for a pen and there are many out there.
What a great video. It's always good to see someone on top of his game.
remarkably clear and concise insights. thank you.
3:33 does this type of writing have a name? I know it's calligraphy but does it have a specific "font" name?
I have one from my grandpa and it’s really sharp it looks older than the ones your using
How do you clean your fountain pen when she is dirty or dry out?
I find it so therapeutic to watch him writing.
How do you adjust ink flow? Sometimes my pens are inconsistent.
Do you need a separate bottle of ink to dip the pen in? Is this mandatory or can it write on it's own? I got one as a gift and I wanna try it out but it doesn't work.
You Sir, are stupendous! Much respect to your talent!
TLDR: "Very Carefully"
amazing strokes! i'm still a beginner when it comes to fountain pen so this video is very helpful. 😊
We’ve all just met the world’s most sophisticated man.
I tired a £2 fountain pen and really like how it feels. I've thought about getting a better one but dont want to spend a fortune on one. Got any suggestions
Your writing is incredible!
What type of the music playing on the background called ?
This guy is a beast.
How do I store my new script pens? Will the ink leak out if I lay them down on the table?
Can you share the brand and type of pen you wrote with?
@OP, I would very much like to know the type of font he was writing in @3:30, if you are in contact with him please send that information my way?
Can you suggest me a very good or excellent strong and very durable and smooth fountain pen for every day use, name and price please ,not a cheap one , neither too much expensive not past 900$. And what are you using there for instance! Thanks.
@kotapaka Yes, while a pen is as basic as the knife, fountain pens are normally quite difficult to use if you have never used one before such as myself.
what is the model of that fountain pen that you used to write "my name is..." ?
can you use a dip pen for Calligraphy and informal handwriting?
I love it
Have a big collection in my reading room
My ma always says
Why you waste money like this, she doesn't understand what it means to me
Always wanted to be a writer
I don't know
But it's like this
From my childhood till now
Whenever I hold this
It's help me, encourages me,
To write
Really don't know what's the connection, but I love it
my grandfather has a beautiful calligraphy.... and hes teaching me to have good calligraphy.....nice video......
@kotapaka
It might seem funny, but there are people who don't know how to hold a fountain pen, let alone write with one or fill one. Very nice writing. I like it so much!
Master Scriber~ I want that title
Love your vids. I just watched How It's Made - Fountain Pens and that's very informative too.
What ink do you use for a fountain pen? India ink?
Does a Pilot Falcon work for calligraphy?
How do you get the ink to come out so thick? I got some Pilot Varsity fountain pens and they don't write anything like that :(
Pilot Varsity are round nib pens. Paul here is writing with italic nib fountain pens in this video. Those are square where they touch the paper and creates a wide line.
God, I could watch this guy write all day.
I love the excitement in his voice when he mentions dip pens
Comments here be like: "Oh my God Paul, write me a baby!"
But seriously, his hand writing is like a piece of art in the making. I can watch him write for hours. Beautiful.
the best unintentional comedy i have seen in a looooong time!
he just makes the writing look so easy. but when I do it it's a hot mess!
aaron its wrong practice makes a man perfect lol
Amber Nelson not just hot mess but glowing amber ..lol
Ya just like your profile
@@johnclark3108 ok, John
I think it might be the ink quality that makes it a mess.
How does he make thicker and thinner lines in the loops? Is it with pressure
Great information. BTW, you have a great voice.
I want to get a fountain pen and do not know where to start. Id like a pen with a built in filling method so I can use any color but which brand should I look into for a beginner?
Also for just writing everyday
I suggest buying it on Ali express because it will be inexpensive and still good and of you don't like it it's not a waste of money I bought one for 90p and it's very good

+firealarmsnstuff yes but I'd also like a better pen than that. I wouldn't mind a more expensive long lasting pen
What nib size was that at 2:52?
I really like the thickness of it.
1.9
That's what she said
This guy enjoys teasing us by making it look so easy!!!
I believe every person must condone himself/herself with brilliant handwriting.
I wanted to see how you keep notes by writing faster.
Not all of us FP users know how to write caligraphy.
Nice video
Cool. Where can I download the font he used?
Amazingly brilliant video ❤️👏
What font was the free writing written in?
Excellent work sir!
