We buried my dad today. 83 years and the last 14 especially riddled with pain. We wanted him to stay, but the Lord called him away. Now without pain, he is with his Savior, his friends, his parents, his brothers, and my brother his son. My sister chose this song to play and I chose "Daddy Never Was The Cadillac Kind" by Confederate Railroad. I don't know if country singers ever read these comment sections but your music means so much to us in good times and times of pain. Rest in peace Dad, I'll love you always.
Vince plays that guitar as hard as i cried at the service!!! This has been played at multiple services in my life and i sing this song loug and cry everytime, love this
It does not get more real than this. True country music. They're all part of one big family, and people who aren't fans of old school country do not understand.
With the right song(s) Vince Gill and Patty Loveless can bring anybody to tears. Their voices and expressive feelings put out are incredible. I love them.

Thank you and your family for your service and sacrifice . And Semper Fi to your brother !!!!! I never served in the military especially the Marines when I wanted to after high school but the good lord had different plans for me
As a 42 year old man with sweat on my brow and calluses on my hands, I have no shame in saying I come back here about twice a year to help loosen up my built up tears. RIP to that entire generation of therapists. Thank the heavens they did what they did. Hopefully history will repeat itself, although I ain’t holding my breath.
Thank you for sharing. I too am a man of your likes. Each night I lay down in my sons room to listen to great performances like this one to gift him a culture of reverence and peace that can only come through the solice of remembrance just as my grandfather did for me. Take time to listen with your children. They will remember as I have and long for that peace.
Just because you dont like other forms or styles of music don't think for a second theres zero slop in country music. Music still tells a story of hardships and pain. We must be numb to the deliverer and open to its message

When Patty picked Vince up when he couldn't get through this was on another level of support. I'm literally gutted watching this...💔😢 Country music at it's finest! 😢😢😢
I love Patty Loveless because she was caressing Vince Gill when he was crying 😢. (Sniffles) now I’m starting to cry 😢, Because everyone was starting to stand up and they were remaining silent. I love this video because my Father name Earnest he’s still alive, he’s 67 years old plus he loves the Ol’ Country Music. So do I, but I also love the new country music like Ronnie Dunn.
I don't believe that Vince could have sung that song without Patty there backing Him up whenever He needed it.She was there and took over until Vince could regain His composure.

Three weeks ago, I lost my youngest daughter. She was only 47. My heart will be forever broken. This song was sung at her memorial service, as requested by her sister. If you have children, never pass up a chance to say I love you. If you have other family and friends you love, make sure they know. No guarantee of tomorrow.
I simply love this song. Patty kills it. The emotional singing from Vince breaks my heart. But the true under lining is I listen to this for my father that is in heaven. When he sings about “only you can know the pain”. That’s my father. Vietnam vet, raised hard and didn’t know any other way to raise my little ass. Love you pops/papa Joe. Wish you could have hugged your first granddaughter on this earth. She knows you and loves you. Thank you for watching over her.
I used to like this song. My Dad died on Dec. 17th 2021. Actually, that's the date he "went to rest high on that mountain", due to dementia he was dying long before that date. I am now sitting at work, on the overnight shift. This is the first time I've listened to that song since Dad went Home. I am glad I'm in here alone, because I am in tears. I said I "used to like this song". Now, I treasure it. I miss you, Dad. Mel Redford 1931 - 2021
My Mom passed in Dec 4th 2021 I we played this song at her funeral, my Grandson 20 said he seen her behind the curtain smiling at all of us crying.. she also died of Dementia in her sleep.. R.I.P Mom. 1932 - 2021
My grandfather was born in the mountains of Colorado. He had dementia too. My grandma took care of him until she passed away. He followed her not more than a year after that. My mom and I took them both back to the mountains and I dug up the earth myself to lay them there. I see you my friend.
My Dad told me this morning that he is transitioning over to Heaven soon. He loves this song. As I listen to it today, I cannot stop the tears from flowing, yet I know where he is bound. What a beautiful song for a difficult time.
My sister buried her 44 year old son today after a tragic end to his long struggle with alchol... she sang Patty's part... and a dear friend with a powerful Voice sang the lead at the service. Our Beloved Nephew was COUNTRY to the CORE ❤😢

Patty Loveless carries the song when Vince struggles and then when he regains his composure at the end she steps back and let's him finish on his own. Just one of the amazing and powerfully moving things about this performance.
where were all the tears and compassion when he deserted his wife and daughters and ran off with gary chapman's wife?? you people are soooo full of shit!
@@johnnyhollingsworth7494 I think he could do dumb and morally reprehensible stuff and still feel sorrow when he sings a song about someone he loved who has departed from his life too soon. That's all part of the complicated nuances of being human.

A testimony to his true prayers and professionalism, and God's grace. Patty is a total blessing to music. Absolutely stunning. It was one of my fathers favorite songs and I had it played at his funeral, I would like to think that he and George may be safe and playing a few tunes. Thanks, Mr. Gill Ms. Loveless. For escorting dad to the mountain. God's blessing will be with you always. Thank you. Wayne.
Patty Loveless, what an amazing woman and class act. Her voice is so hauntingly beautiful in this song and she handled the situation so perfectly. I don't think Vince could have asked for a better partner in this situation. Then to see Garth stand up and everyone else follow suit. This is the strength of Country music.
Bambam NJ Patty's sure got the high lonesome, I'd listen to her on this kind of stuff and forget the newer, this is what she was made for. And yes, no doubt she was hurting as bad as Vince, but kept that colossal voice together and got him through it.
He’s one of the most talented vocalists out there. He could’ve stepped all over the melody with incredible runs and other vocal showboating. Instead he honored one of the most iconic songs in country music history by singing the hell out of it the way it was meant to be. Simple and heartfelt.
My Aunt died last Sunday… she was like my momma for 43 years… I’m supposed to sing this on Thursday at her funeral… help me Jesus. I’ll see u again mama… I’ll see you again, Go rest high!
Vince showed extreme vocal excellence as he bared his soul. Even though his emotions were trying to choke him, he still hit the notes. I'm sitting here choking on the emotions, I couldn't have pulled that off. This song has pierced me since 2003, when I lost my little brother. Great song and a great deal more heart, Vince.
Patti saw it..she probably anticipated it knowing George and Vince's close relationship. I, actually did not anticipate that much emotion and it sucked me down with him in the vortex, and I had to turn it off. It was too much. My feelings about George and Vince's just created something that would only go downhill at the time..not bad or good, just paralyzing. I've been down that path before on LSD and I was not gonna revisit it on it's terms even though I was sober.
Very professional to step in and help when he breaks down and it's very difficult singing a song written about someone close... nm singing an emotional song... its the HARDEST THING TO DO
I love this song and still brings a tear to my eye everytime I hear it......God I miss the old country that could move you like this. I think the fact of his brother and George hit him at the same time
My husband and I watched and cried as this duo performed this on George Jones memorial. Little did we guess my husband played this song for me the following year when my brother passed... two years after that i listened to it when my husband passed.... Go Rest High On That Mountain...may Jesus hold you in His Loving Arms for all Eternity...

One of the most honest, heart felt tributes to a friend you will ever see. Thank you Vince and Patty.

@GregNormal-b4tyes. I am. Lots of tears.
Same 2024. Just lost my husband and came running here to help me grieve. Love both of these artists.
He's a legend and Patty Loveless way to go
backing your friend in such a difficult time. True country music.
Hello there, good day to you, and nice to seeing you here.
Just lost my dad yesterday. His 80 years was what god gave us with him.

Yes!
The strength Patty Lovelace has in this moment is beyond comprehension. Very admirable. Pure, raw emotion. Don’t just watch this when you’re sad, watch it when you need to remain humble. It helps me.
You saying the right words, thanks
Amazing strength
Such a very true statement. Thank you.
Don't be afraid to rest your faith at Jesus' mountain. He calls you. Will you answer Him?
How dif she do it? Her voice never waivered. Amazing.
Sorry for your loss
Sorry for your loss. Great reunions coming when you cross the rainbow bridge. @SKYZTHELIMIT514
God bless you. I hope you have peace.
Vince plays that guitar as hard as i cried at the service!!! This has been played at multiple services in my life and i sing this song loug and cry everytime, love this
His guitar had to sing for him, when in his grief, he couldn't anymore!! ❤
Vince Gill. . . One of the truly great musicians . . . demonstrating what true love and respect looks like. If only there were more humans like this.
And greatest voices, also.
It does not get more real than this. True country music. They're all part of one big family, and people who aren't fans of old school country do not understand.
With the right song(s) Vince Gill and Patty Loveless can bring anybody to tears. Their voices and expressive feelings put out are incredible. I love them.
The way Patty picks right up where he leaves off due to emotion from Vince gets me every time! Two icons, two friends, both showing the love for the possum! Incredible!
Both my brother and I served as US Marines. He served 22 years and took his life because of PTSD. I miss him so much. Semper Fi little brother.
Sorry for your loss, and for our country's loss. Semper Fi...
So sorry for your loss
Thank you for your service and for the service of your brother. I’m so sorry you lost him. My husband served 27 years.
Right back you
Thank you and your family for your service and sacrifice .
Hopefully history will repeat itself, although I ain’t holding my breath.
..
HUGS!!

I don't think anybody can make a guitar cry or play as cleanly and purely as Vince Gill. Patty is an angel....
Agreed...Vince is one of the greatest country guitar players of all time...

A moment like this is what separates country music from the rest of the slop that passes as music these days.
Well said jim
Just because you dont like other forms or styles of music don't think for a second theres zero slop in country music. Music still tells a story of hardships and pain. We must be numb to the deliverer and open to its message
I agree-Most of today's musicians , even the over hyped ones arent close to this talent.
Amén, well said.
Agree
My dad passed away in 2010. They played to say his funeral every time I listened to it. It brings me to tears.
i dare anyone to watch this without getting emotional ... beautiful tribute
Everything about this is great. Vince's emotion. Patty holding the song together. Garth being the first to stand in reverence. That amazing guitar solo that really just allowed him to pull it together so he could finish it out. Wow wow wow.

TWO absolute professional artists. Lost a close friend and stood up to praise him. Emotions were high and Patty stepped in to help a man in pain.
I love the fact that he is human. This song takes a lot from the soul if you have loved and lost. He handled it well and thank God for the gracious Patty. She is awesome.
Amen sister

Your so right
Amen! Patty stepped up big time. The beauty of Vince breaking makes this divinely poignant. Garth leading the standing ovation was an impeccable gesture. Patty's voice haunts the soul with pure devotion and flawless conversion of emotion into song. I still have to stand in reverence every time I listen.
Much later I moved to Nashville and this , This is my most treasured moment... Hearts and voices holding one another together , through the pain of such a great soul's passing. This is what I felt when I held that little transistor radio to my ear, in the darkness far away in Michigan... so many years ago.
When Patty picked Vince up when he couldn't get through this was on another level of support. I'm literally gutted watching this...💔😢 Country music at it's finest! 😢😢😢

This is what great country music is!
I love Patty Loveless because she was caressing Vince Gill when he was crying 😢.
(Sniffles) now I’m starting to cry 😢,
Because everyone was starting to stand up and they were remaining silent.
I love this video because my Father name Earnest he’s still alive, he’s 67 years old plus he loves the Ol’ Country Music. So do I, but I also love the new country music like Ronnie Dunn.
Can't watch it very often.
Anyone who loves this is a friend of mine, I still shead a tear today, God bless Vince Gill, and the Possum, RIP George

Amen Brother you got a friend here.
Rest peacefully George Jones.
We’ll see you later.
she never took her eyes off him!! She backed him up, such true friendship!!
You can see the worry in her eyes...😭
I don't believe that Vince could have sung that song without Patty there backing Him up whenever He needed it.She was there and took over until Vince could regain His composure.
@@markallen6818 I absolutely agree! It was just so touching!
I noticed the same thing....she is a class act. This is such a beautiful, heartfelt tribute.
Vince, I can't explain what this masterpiece means to me, to many people lost, brings a tear every time, comforts me thinking someday I'll see them again.
Watching this in 2022 and it simply breaks my heart. Well done on Vince for getting through the song and for Patty being the angel on his shoulder.
She was. Totally awesome boss ex she led j. To HP when he needed it we all need friends like Patty god bless them both awesome song

My friend , your Dad obviously knew the Lord. May God give you and your family that only he can give in knowing that your beloved Dad is in Heaven with a new glorified body in the presence of our Father feeling a love like no other, and one day I am sure that you will be with him once again. To see the emotional state Vince Gill was in while trying to hold back the tears and paying tribute to George Jones truly phenomenal and heartbreaking
Absolutely
He must have really liked George alot
It's raw and real 💜
AMEN to that..what a tribute to The Possum
yes he was I cried too
Three weeks ago, I lost my youngest daughter.
Thanks for the huge love and support, I feel blessed to have you. Stay Safe! Hugs.

My grandfather was born in the mountains of Colorado. He had dementia too. My grandma took care of him until she passed away. He followed her not more than a year after that. My mom and I took them both back to the mountains and I dug up the earth myself to lay them there. I see you my friend.
My grandpa and grandma died January in 2018
My Dad told me this morning that he is transitioning over to Heaven soon. He loves this song. As I listen to it today, I cannot stop the tears from flowing, yet I know where he is bound. What a beautiful song for a difficult time.
Love to you and dad.
My sister buried her 44 year old son today after a tragic end to his long struggle with alchol... she sang Patty's part... and a dear friend with a powerful

she did a great job of taking over for the grief sticken Vince. They are a couple that is for sure. great mixture of voices.

Ive listened to this many times over. Cannot get enough....lyrics are so special....emotions from Vince and Pattys vocals....top notch. Great tribute to George.
One of the greatest tributes I have ever seen. This IS Country Music. Brings tears to my eyes every time I see this. Possum... we miss ya
Patty Loveless carries the song when Vince struggles and then when he regains his composure at the end she steps back and let's him finish on his own. Just one of the amazing and powerfully moving things about this performance.
Moving. Class.Treasure.
Classic to see him get carried by her and then him moving back in when he regained his composure.
Just pure.
They both ha e great voices, she is one of my favorites...
She was amazing ♥️♥️
where were all the tears and compassion when he deserted his wife and daughters and ran off with gary chapman's wife?? you people are soooo full of shit!
@@johnnyhollingsworth7494 I think he could do dumb and morally reprehensible stuff and still feel sorrow when he sings a song about someone he loved who has departed from his life too soon. That's all part of the complicated nuances of being human.
June, 2024. Cry every time I hear this. I just lost my Special Needs daughter last September. This song means more to me now than it ever did.

I was always crying so much I never noticed during this she went over to Vince when he was doing his guitar solo nearly breaking down in tears
They didn't have to put the feeling in the song. They WERE feeling it. Their friend died, they were truly this emotional.
This was recommended after watching He Stopped Loving Her Today and its my first time hearing this song. Im not a country fan yet this is a beautifully performed song.
One of the few that can make a guitar cry. Vince is a hell of of player and that bounce back at the end
Amen
Bambam NJ Patty's sure got the high lonesome, I'd listen to her on this kind of stuff and forget the newer, this is what she was made for. And yes, no doubt she was hurting as bad as Vince, but kept that colossal voice together and got him through it.
Couldn’t have said it any better myself. Amen.
I've been watching this video for 11 years and not one time has it been any other way except tear filled eyes.
He’s one of the most talented vocalists out there. He could’ve stepped all over the melody with incredible runs and other vocal showboating. Instead he honored one of the most iconic songs in country music history by singing the hell out of it the way it was meant to be. Simple and heartfelt.
Can't watch this without tears rolling. Even 11 years later. RIP George
My Aunt died last Sunday… she was like my momma for 43 years… I’m supposed to sing this on Thursday at her funeral… help me Jesus. I’ll see u again mama… I’ll see you again, Go rest high!
Sending my condolences to u an ur family prayers up for healing 🙏 Amen
Sorry for you and your families loss
Vince showed extreme vocal excellence as he bared his soul. Even though his emotions were trying to choke him, he still hit the notes. I'm sitting here choking on the emotions, I couldn't have pulled that off. This song has pierced me since 2003, when I lost my little brother. Great song and a great deal more heart, Vince.
Choked up every time I hear this. So many talented people giving life to us who need or simply appreciate their messages!
I love how Patty takes over for him when he needs it. She has class
We can really see her watching him closely to have his back.
Absolutely she's the best but so is Vince so very great together
Patti saw it..she probably anticipated it knowing George and Vince's close relationship. I, actually did not anticipate that much emotion and it sucked me down with him in the vortex, and I had to turn it off. It was too much. My feelings about George and Vince's just created something that would only go downhill at the time..not bad or good, just paralyzing. I've been down that path before on LSD and I was not gonna revisit it on it's terms even though I was sober.
Very professional to step in and help when he breaks down and it's very difficult singing a song written about someone close... nm singing an emotional song... its the HARDEST THING TO DO
That part almost made me sob.
I love the fact that when Vince can't muster the words , he let's his guitar do the talking . God Bless you both .
