- These were among the performers at the Grand Ole Opry for the funeral on May2, 2013. As you will see, Vince gets a little emotional half way through.
I'm here again in 2024. I'll never stop loving this song and the persons singing it. Patty and Vince are absolutely legends. I shed a tear every time i listen,
RIP GEORGE JONES
I have watched this over and over for the last hour and cried every time 😢
Same......@@claricepinelle1356
Was gonna write almost the same words but you did it for me. Probably the Best song ever sung at such a sad occasion.
I come back here more than I care to admit. However, I won't stop coming back.
Two of the best country singers love you both .beautiful song 😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
Garth Brooks rising silently.....hat in hand...to honor George, and to show solidarity to Vince Gill.....chokes me up...every time I watch this. And since my 26 year old son died in a car wreck 6 years ago....I've watched this many, many times....
So sorry you lost your son, sir ❤
So sorry for your loss. ❤❤❤
@@brendadoherty3060 thank you Brenda!
I lost my husband and that has been awful...a child would be worse!! Just know he is with you until you meet again!!! May God give you the strength you need until then❤
So sorry for your loss. If I were Vince I could not have done it. Kudos to you Vince and Patti? Sweet of Garth to stand
Loved the way Patty watched Vince and supported him through the emotional parts. When he broke down, she was there. True friendship. Loved this and George is smiling.
And her voice…enough power to run the lights in the place.
🌷
And watch how gearth stood up and everyone stood
God bless him! Vince has blessed and comforted so many , many people with this beautiful song. God bless Patty for taking up the slack for him when he broke down!
To, anybody who's reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind right now.
May clarity replaces confusion. May peace and calmness fill your life. God bless you

Vince is REAL country
I agree absolutely.
Greetings from a German countrymusic fan
I have honestly watched this hundreds of times and am always brought to tears
Hello Joan,how are you doing?🌹🌹
Me too
A moment like this is what separates country music from the rest of the slop that passes as music these days.
Well said jim
Just because you dont like other forms or styles of music don't think for a second theres zero slop in country music. Music still tells a story of hardships and pain. We must be numb to the deliverer and open to its message
I agree-Most of today's musicians , even the over hyped ones arent close to this talent.
Amén, well said.
Agree
Who still watching and crying in 2022?
Vince Gill is a true legend , he sings from his heart.
Vince is one of a kind and it's obvious he's feeling his grief but he keeps on with his tribute to George.
@Vince Gill 🔵 I have been your fan since 15 some years when I first listened ' Let me love you tonight " song.
me
I'm watching it about once a week. Words can't describe this fabulous tribute. I said it before and I'll say it again...he makes me proud to be an OKIE.
I just run across this one, but it brings tears in my eyes as well in 2021. I did see the same with Alan Jackson. It must be damn tough for them to give this performance on such a sad day. Hats off to them.
I lost count of how many times I've rewatched this performance.. Admit it you too came on your own
I lost my Daughter on Dec. 4 2023 from drug overdose. I have listened this many times. It touches the heart deeply. and it helps me thru it.
I've listened to it many times. There are more polished performances, but the pure emotion on this one is so heartwarming. Kudo's to Patty Loveless for having his back.
My dad loved this song and played it to honor his dad. My dad died a week ago and I played for him at his funeral. I love you dad. Thanks for everything. I will see you again.
I am so sorry for your loss. 🥺❤️
My friend , your Dad obviously knew the Lord. May God give you and your family that only he can give in knowing that your beloved Dad is in Heaven with a new glorified body in the presence of our Father feeling a love like no other, and one day I am sure that you will be with him once again. I take peace in knowing where my loved ones are that knew the Lord. Let's pray for those who don't. God bless! ❤🙏☝☝☝☝
Maybe the most heartfelt guitar solo in music history. If this doesn't move you..
..you are not alive
I used to like this song. My Dad died on Dec. 17th 2021. Actually, that's the date he "went to rest high on that mountain", due to dementia he was dying long before that date.
I am now sitting at work, on the overnight shift. This is the first time I've listened to that song since Dad went Home.
I am glad I'm in here alone, because I am in tears. I said I "used to like this song". Now, I treasure it.
I miss you, Dad.

1931 - 2021
My Mom passed in Dec 4th 2021 I we played this song at her funeral, my Grandson 20 said he seen her behind the curtain smiling at all of us crying.. she also died of Dementia in her sleep.. R.I.P Mom. 1932 - 2021
My grandfather was born in the mountains of Colorado. He had dementia too. My grandma took care of him until she passed away. He followed her not more than a year after that. My mom and I took them both back to the mountains and I dug up the earth myself to lay them there. I see you my friend.
My grandpa and grandma died January in 2018
If you look closely Garth Brooks is the 1st person to stand up when Vince is struggling and that shows how much class he has.
I love George and I had my composure until I saw Garth stand up with tears flowing. 😭
I also loved how Patty kept him going when he couldn't use his words.
What a wonderful, wonderful, powerful gesture, supporting one another.
Bless you Mr Brooks!!!
Patty
Yes... much later I moved to Nashville and this , This is my most treasured moment... Hearts and voices holding one another together , through the pain of such a great soul's passing. This is what I felt when I held that little transistor radio to my ear, in the darkness far away in Michigan... so many years ago.
I think Vince Gill's love for George Jones must have been as close to his brother as it gets. A man that expresses his true love and feelings in good and bad times is a True MAN AND FRIEND.
God bless you, Vince Gill! You always give everything you have in you during your concertwas blessed to see you before your career took off back in the Picture on the Milk Carton days. I still follow you and always will. I love all your songs but Go Rest High on that Mountain has a special meaning for me, too! I also, lost a brother when he was 20 years old. I have never gotten over it but I know, hevis waiting High on that Mountain until we meet again. Thank you for sharing a part of yourself with us all these years. Your love for Country Music is a blessing to us all. ❤❤❤
This is the finest duet ever.....you WONT find a more Heartfelt collaboration.......ever!
The best
The emotion in this is unbelievable. He knows a true friend when he sings this. God bless Vince and Patty!
Our humanity shows!¡!!
The support that Patty Loveless showed Vince Gill is what country music is all about❤❤❤
This song was played today at the funeral of my father-in-Law (8/12/23). He was 89, served in Vietnam as a US Marine, and was married 64 years and had 4 children. In Sherman, Texas. A good man, father, and husband. Go Rest High Sir. You deserve it.
Thank you to your father in law for his service
I had this played for my 76 yr old brother's funeral. He passed away 3 years ago tomorrow (10/2/20). It keeps me calm every time I hear it and sing it and I couldn't be at his funeral so I asked they find a quartet to sing it, and they did. I hope it only brings you peace and joy (and tears) for many years because it was a wonderful tribute. We appreciate your father-in-law's service. I was USO 101st Aborne (1966-67) and lost many friends so I sing this song for everyone I've lost. I hope it brings the entire family peace and rest. It's a very high mountain.
The world is a better place for men like your father in law. 🙏

Didn't realize that my dad liked her for the bluegrass aspects of her work till now 10 yrs later.
Thank you all, Vince, Ralph, Bill and Patty.
Thank ou, thank you, thank you.
What an emotional tribute. George always called Vince "Sweetpea". I don't know how Vince got through this, but he hung in there. The guitar solo was brilliant given the emotion and grief he was going through while playing it. Huge kudos to Patty for keeping it together in support of Vince too. One of the best tributes ever to a man who was the greatest country music singer who ever lived! RIP Possum!
Any of us should be so lucky to have Patty Loveless there to help us through the hard parts. God Bless Patty Loveless. What a compassionate soul. Idaho Falls, 5-6-24

It does not get more real than this. True country music. They're all part of one big family, and people who aren't fans of old school country do not understand.
Vince was too emotional to sing the song, then channeled that emotion into one of the most beautiful acoustic guitar solos I've ever heard.

I simply love this song. Patty kills it. The emotional singing from Vince breaks my heart. But the true under lining is I listen to this for my father that is in heaven. When he sings about “only you can know the pain”. That’s my father. Vietnam vet, raised hard and didn’t know any other way to raise my little ass. Love you pops/papa Joe. Wish you could have hugged your first granddaughter on this earth. She knows you and loves you. Thank you for watching over her.

Vince wrote that song for his brother after he passed. They were very close. Vince was also close to George. Patty and Vince go back forever, like brother and sister. Country is truly family. Garth showed some real class, after he stood everyone followed. I watched the funeral show and cried like a baby. Later Alan Jackson did George's signature song "He Stopped Lovin Her Today, he stumbled once when his voice broke, who else could have pulled that song off, like "No Pressure." A funeral to end all funerals, I think George is actually more popular today and will always be one of the greats. RIP George.
Just lost my best friend 3 days ago." Go rest high on that mountain" rest easy my my friend RIP Myke
The strength Patty Lovelace has in this moment is beyond comprehension. Very admirable. Pure, raw emotion. Don’t just watch this when you’re sad, watch it when you need to remain humble. It helps me.

How dif she do it? Her voice never waivered. Amazing.
After my sweet Wife Doris passed on to Jesus, I could not sing in front of an audience anymore. I start out OK, but then the Choir would have to take over for me, and I would just cry. She has been gone 4 years, and I still cant sing in front of people. My daughter Deanndra said it was because Doris was always in front of me, and held me together. I'm not a country music "fan" but I'm a fan of great talent. Vince Gill is talented on every level. So is Patty Loveless.
My 21 y.o. daughter passed away in 2016. I miss her deeply, this song shoes how I feel.
I'm so very sorry. Your pain comes across in just those few words you posted. I'm sure you have beautiful memories of her. I hope your grief is now manageable. We don't know for sure, but think of it as "it's not goodbye, it's see you later", might bring you some comfort.
Patty Loveless, what an amazing woman and class act. Her voice is so hauntingly beautiful in this song and she handled the situation so perfectly. I don't think Vince could have asked for a better partner in this situation. Then to see Garth stand up and everyone else follow suit. This is the strength of Country music.
Amen
Bambam NJ Patty's sure got the high lonesome, I'd listen to her on this kind of stuff and forget the newer, this is what she was made for. And yes, no doubt she was hurting as bad as Vince, but kept that colossal voice together and got him through it.

I don't really follow country music but I like a couple of Vince Gill songs... that's why I came here... and now I'm a sobbing wreck! You country folk know how to honour your fallen! 😢😭😭
I was the same way about country music, then I started exploring it a little bit. There is so much great music I overlooked in my youth simply because it was "country".
It’s why I can’t listen to country Too many memories of those I can’t see anymore, and I lose it.
Thanks so much I really appreciate your love and compliments, what an awesome kind you’re
Hello 👋 how are you doing today
Patty Loveless is one of the most underrated female country singers ever! Her voice carries Vince through the song and hits notes that many can"t hit! Even in the studio version of this song her voice carries it! Don't get me wrong I love Vince and his mellow tone but Patty is the bomb! I don't think she ever got the recognition she deserved.
Miiss you lisa rip
I agree and I never understood why. She will always be one of my all time favorite female country artists.
She's not a sell out,
Sadly she does not. Many of the 90’s country music stars don’t the recognition deserved before country went to crap.
@@bethsmith8659 Thank you for supporting and be my fan so far I’m very grateful and I Appreciate you I would love to hear from you Text me 3216131706. Vincegill913@gmail.com email me
He found himself in his guitar, his old friend, which reestablished his composure… This is what it's about. This video, this collaboration, this love and compassion, are glorious.
What a beautiful duet. Wonderful song, full of emotion. Vince Gill was a favorite performer of my Mom's. This song was pure love. It breaks your heart in one verse and fills you with the Holy Spirit the next. Thank you two, for giving us and my Mom, such a beautiful moment ❤
Oh when he choked, and Patty showed so much Grace, and had his back. I'm bawling. Country music isn't what it used to be. Bring emotion and heartfelt music back.
I have watched this over and over and i have read most all the comments...there is really not much more that can be added..this is what country is all about folks...we dont need millions of dollars worth of lights and sound boards..when you sing from the heart this is what you get..the best there is..Patty is so wonderful and my hat off to Garth I can also see the emotion in his eyes along with everyone there..these folks sing these songs are just as human as the next person..these songs make us laugh..cry..makes us happy and sad..even tho they sing them doesnt mean they cant feel like we do hearing these songs..Im happy to be a part of this generation. Miss the ones that are gone happy to have the ones still here.
You can't go wrong w/ country songs.. they cover the realness of a human's heart & soul .
Vince plays that guitar as hard as i cried at the service!!! This has been played at multiple services in my life and i sing this song loug and cry everytime, love this
My mother and I lost my father just over a year ago. She cant even speak this song title without choking up.
She sang this in a church choir as a young girl- to think someday she'll join my father and our father one day makes me almost lament than rejoice.
Lets count our blessings yall
Vince Gill and Patty Loveless are ridiculously underrated Also Garth Brooks is the greatest gentleman ever in country music:)❤️🎶✌️
Garth Brooks is a liberal nut job and a disgrace to true country music.
Agree with all 3 things you said.
I don't think anybody can make a guitar cry or play as cleanly and purely as Vince Gill. Patty is an angel....
Agreed...Vince is one of the greatest country guitar players of all time...
AMEN AND HIS VELVETY SMOOTH VOICE. Of course Patty Loveless has a beautiful voice as well.
Thanks so much I really appreciate your love and compliments, what an amazing kind you’re

No doubt that Vince has earned his place near the top of all time country singer-songwriters; and plays a mean guitar as well. What a treasure
Could you imagine being asked to sing that song every time a friend dies? Vince is amazing!
