What a beautiful woman. She was then, and still is now. These throwbacks are dope and I never knew she almost had a different music video for Anytime You Need A Friend. They should release the other version, if they can. 90s Mariah will never be matched by anyone and she is a once in a lifetime artist. She really is "The Queen Of Music". Period. Probably people stared to use very vintage looking video editing techniques these days.
This was when majority of the decisions for her career were controlled by her label. It was probably never released because of her "revealing" dress. Her ex husband didn't want her to show a lot of skin. Thank God she divorced him.
But the moment she did, she became this sex icon and it devalued her music. Nothing touches the Tommy era Mariah musically and vocally (and I am even including Daydream because that was technically her last album with him).

She reinvented herself and did what she wanted as an artist, which is something your are allowed to do. Imaging thinking everything that came after Daydream is “devalued”. If it was “devalued” would you think she’d still would have been getting #1 hits and currently have 19 #1 hits??

No, it really isn't. It's her worst album and most fans know that, and Mariah herself has little appreciation for it, especially next to her other, better albums such as Daydream and Butterfly.
@Pray ForMe Her music and overall artistry actually got much better with Daydream and then even way superior with Butterfly. Music Box isn't anywhere near those 2. Any fan knows that, and Mariah herself especially thinks so.

I bet that the powers that be looked at this and thought she looked too sexy. That's why this video never saw the light of the day, I'm telling you! The video we got was beautiful but now that we've seen these clips you can tell that her beauty was toned down for the video.
I feel the opposite. The first video was too “fairy tale” like that even Mariah didn’t get the concept. That was Tommy’s vision of Mariah being this unattainable princess up in her castle. The video that ended up being released is more urban in style and down to earth which as we know is more Mariah’s personality. Even the hair change I bet it was Mariah’s idea as Tommy wanted her to remain curly haired and wearing gowns all the time. Mimi was becoming more informal and more grounded and her videos started to show that free spirited personality of hers.
The reason it wasnt released is because of her clothes.

I remember just staring at the _Music Box_ artwork. To be 7 or 8 years old and seeing a song entitled _Anytime You Need a Friend_ was *everything* to me. And when you heard it, it was like a breath of fresh air. Definitely my favorite from the album. I love all of the remixes as well - _Stringapella_ being my favorite. Anyhow, I never knew she made an alternative video for this song. I wish they'd release it if it's actually completed. I'd like to see that _Vision of Love_ video of her on the bed that they decided to scrap. I'd also like to see that lost _Underneath the Stars_ video. I know folks like to bash Tommy, but looking back, he went way above & beyond for her. Sometimes, one song had two or three videos. Other artists were lucky if they got one. A lot of politics involved. My favorite will always be her debut album.

Double-edge sword, I know. She was Diamond and had the perfect image while they were married. Soon as they divorced, her sales decreased and she was dating every guy she was photographed with. This is why I don't buy into charts and things like that anymore. After seeing all of that play out, I believe differently.

Mariah had an interview recently about how “You don’t have to be the nicest person in the room” and you can just see her describe the set and you can tell she’s NOT into it at all (“that’s what they say when there is no concept”) because you know Mariah today would be saying more about that set. Glad that as gradual as it was she really came into her own.
