It's insane to think about how amazing and successful Mariah was in the 90s. She is so gifted.

I absolutely agree. I just watched for the first time & I feel like I'm just meeting her for the first time again. She really had it rough through those years & the general public were just ruthless. She deserved better & the chance to show her true self without judgement or ridicule. I can't even tell you the number of times I found myself in an argument defending her and telling everyone that from the second I first heard Vision of Love until the day I die, I will always believe in Mariah Carey and you all can just kma when she surpasses every musical record you can think of. And she did, and people still ask me, "how could you possibly know she would actually become the legend & icon she is?" I shrug and say, she touched my heart and soul and I just knew, I just felt it. I tell people,
"Mariah Carey isn't a once in a lifetime vocalist, Mariah Carey is a once in human existence vocalist & I'm so so grateful to have been born at the perfect time to hear the voice of the heavens.

I remember thinking of Mariah Carey in the early 1990s as untouchable, that her responses were slick and to the point. She had this aura around her of impressiveness but untouchability. Knowing what we know now, it was Sony that forced this.
There is this radio interview from mid 1990 (on TH-cam) where she actually is pretty candid and joking around, but it seems like that had to be expunged from her personality. It’s sad.

I finally understand, it was really tommy who set her high above, if she would've got that warner studios, and had her self be a bold star on her career by wearing revealing clothes during the 90s, she wouldn't have been remembered today. Just sayin

For a young 30 year old (back in 1999 )who grew up in complete disfunction, surrounded by violence and trauma, she did a great job expressing herself while talking to a much older, seasoned interviewer. I’m sure now at 55 years old, she has gotten used to this type of thing ( maybe) ❤
