I love the warmer tone/rasp she had in this era.

Mariah is one of the best singers and songwriters, period. Tell me who else can sing this song the way she does. This song is beautiful, she is one of the most talented vocalists ever.
No one can reach MARIAH: She is unique… She is iconic… the tone, the falsetto, the head voice, the runs, the breathing, the vibrato… in short: the best ever… no one can reach this… a voice that comes from God!!!

I dont care what you all are going to say. This is her best song ever. The guitar is so haunting, the lyrics are so longing and the melody as well as her voice perfectly reflects the longing she feels of the guy shes in love with especially when she did that runs in the bridge, the ending belt with several F5, E5 perfectly reflects the climax of the song and her frustration that shes feeling and later she ended it with a dramatic hopelessness in her voice, the lyrics are written like a pro (Sleepless solitude, vividly emblazoned, then my heart just wont let me be right) such beautiful wordings. This is probably the most romantic songs I have ever heard.
Every time I hear this song every word she 's singing touch my soul.
Mariah is a real diva she knows how using her voice in low notes as in high notes 🎼
That head voice is insane!!!! And the rasp makes the song more impactful!
