Dang, man! One bump to the big nest equals "So you have chosen death" to the wasps. INSTANT SWARM! So difficult and frightening to watch, because they always reach the lens! You're lucky that suit shielded you, because yellow jackets are very aggressive and it doesn't take many stings to kill you.
The scary thing about Yellow Jacket nest is they are hidden. You wouldn't really know you were walking over one or bumping into one until it was too late.
Vespula squamosa is easily the most dangerous of all stinging insects. Thelr tenacity, persistence, and ability to sting multiple times apiece all contribute to this. Their colonies are also far and away larger than any other yellow jacket or hornet colonies. Baldface hornets and all true hornets have them beat on size, but these southerns have way more fight en masse.
I live in the Northeast and I've seen a few random squamosa queens flying around in the spring. I've mistakenly walked across our native northern yellowjacket nests and not been stung.
What happens if someone accidentally kicked something at the nest or threw a rock at it. A yellow jackets nest this big can kill or injur someone who stumbled on it accidentally.
I carried two high risk pregnancies in my 40s, delivered both my beautiful children by C-section and almost bled to death the second time around. I would much rather chance a third pregnancy in my 50s than face a colony of aggressive, brutal yellowjackets such as this one. I live in NJ; the nests here never seem to get any larger than a basketball or football and they usually die off by late October or early November. I saw what looked like a bald-faced hornet nest on the property of my daughter's preschool, but it was already abandoned as temperatures were starting to drop sharply.
They're nasty. They get under your clothes and sting you. For whatever reason, this summer, we had four nests in our back yard and I discovered on of them by running over it while mowing. I got stung a lot and had to run inside and strip off my pants. They're so nasty!
I wouldn't dare stand in the spot near or around a yellow jacket nest it just shows they easily set off so just walking near it and they are on the attack
On this week’s episode of “OH HELL NAW” we have a gentleman performing one of the helliest of naws, shy of diving with great whites dressed as a seal.
😂
Props to you man, I’ve been to Afghanistan twice and I’d rather go a 3rd time than do this.
Thanks for your service kind sir, and I respect your choices since I would do the same 😅
They don't even sound like a wasp swarm; they sound like a freaking Geiger counter.
Omg your right
That's incredible. Holy moly. That would kill anyone coming close to it.
I bet the southern yellowjackets could fight the Asian hornets since they are in greater numbers

Dang! They are ripping holes through the side of the nest to get out.
I've never seen anything like this before... WOW.

This is why they invented flamethrowers for

And they are stupidly easy to provoke an attack
Once walked by a nest got stung at-least 50 times

Dangerous. They are so aggressive.. I kill them @ night. They are day dwellers. Nite time is the right time!
There would be no escape from that if you were to stumble on that and disturb it with out a suit on.
That is a whole lotta "Nope" right there...
thumbnail litterally looks like your on fire
Currently recovering with a broken femur and back and would rather have that happen again than to accidentally stumble upon a nest like this...
get well soon peter!

Looks like we have a potential Dark Souls moment henceforth known as the cursed kingdom of Vespa and the wicked ruler whom is queen madam Venonous.

They like to fly into my bread truck while I'm driving... they're attracted to the sweet smell of the bread. They are VERY agressive!
Why banging next to the nest sends in too many? They attack.
