    For anyone watching this video as of 9/23/20 or later, the current firmware does not have bed leveling. You have to navigate back to the April 19, 2020 commit on github and use the firmware.bin from that commit. For anyone who doesn't know how to do that, click on the firmware....bin that you need (either z or non z), then click 'History' in the top right (it has a little clock next to it). Scroll down to the April 19 commit, then click the '' button on the far right. Use the firmware from that build and don't forget to rename it before putting it on your sd card. Pop that bad boy into the printer and you should be good to go. Hopefully you don't have to spend 12 hrs fucking around with this shit like i did. Good luck. And thank you Defpom for the video, it gave me the right place to start. Do everything like he told you just don't use the new firmware.

      do you have issues with homing not to the center? i cant get my z-offset

    • @itsmetheuglykid
      @itsmetheuglykid 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@leoliu4730 not once I had the right firmware. I'm using the blt in place of my z stop and with the z-homing firmware it goes to the middle of the plate to z home. If u have the right firmware you will see a BLTouch option under configuration. The default z offset that the firmware set was -1.85 but that would bit the base when the print would start. I have a glass plate in place of the magnetic pad on the ender 3 pro so my z offset ended up being -1.24. You just have to play with the offset until its where you want it. You have to z home then move the print head to one of ur corners and move z to 0. If it hits ur plate, increase the offset (less negative). If its too far from the plate, then decrease ur offset (more negative). U can't rely on adjusting the plate leveling knobs because when it re homes before a print it will go to the offset from the new z axis home.

When Mr Amazon delivers, i will be using your video as a install guide, slight differences which i hope will not be to different is that i have a Ender 3 pro, but apart from the main board housing being upside down compared to yours, i am hoping it is pretty much the same. I will have to re-watch the 'Offset' and how you get the setting to put into your Gcode. issue again, but hopefully if i ask here you may have time to advise me if i hit an issue.

  • @xblast196
    @xblast196 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video!
    Quick question: You have the bit in your video after you install the "3D Touch" about adjusting the babysteps and you had to adjust the z offset and what not. Is this still necessary to account for even with your gcode pointer at the end? In other words, if you added in the gcode before your first print, how much tuning is there for the BLTouch?

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Z offset still needs to be set, as it does not know the relationship in height between the nozzle and the sensor, if you get lucky with the mount you use you may not need to set it, but it is likely that you will need to.

    The only printer I have that uses G29 bed levelling is my nowhere near stock Kossel linear plus , I never had to recalibrate it since dropping the REARM in it a few years ago, when I used to have to recalibrate it because the original board would forget its settings from time to time, I always set the Z height with paper after calibration like you would do manually, just using baby steps until the nozzle had the right amount of bite, on my printer thats a massive -14.65mm as the probe is magnetic and removable, and the touch point is right under the nozzle, then just save the offset to eeprom, my ender 3 and my CR10 are still manually levelled, as they dont go out of whack that often and they have IKEA mirrors as the print beds..

    Ok...having lots of problems with this. Got everything hooked up correctly, BL Touch can successfully test. However, three problems: 1) It's supposed to "Auto Home" to the center of the bed, but doesn't. 2) I can't move my Z axis below 0 (into the negative) like I could before this. This is necessary to set the probe offset. 3) When I hit "Level Bed" it goes to the front left corner, probes once, and stops. There's also a thing in the menu that says "Bed Leveling" and goes from On to Off after it probes once. Can anyone help?? Using the precompiled firmware from BTT, same as the video, and yes, it's the correct one for the way mine is hooked up.

    • @jetstream01

      After many hours of frustration, I finally figured it out. The firmware for the BL Touch that is on the SKR Mini E3 Github was not working, so I switched the plug to the other configuration where you plug it into the z stop port. Then I flashed with the firmware for the BL Touch with z-stop homing (from the Github). After that, I couldn't move my z axis below zero to set the probe offset correctly, so I had to install Pronterface, connect with usb to the printer (and set up the right port and stuff for Pronterface-it was easy), and manually send the gcode command M211 S0 to disable the software endstops. Then I could lower the z axis below 0 to get my probe offset value correct. After this, it was still not homing perfectly center like it's supposed to, but it was close. Easy fix-just had to set the probe x and y offsets as well, because they're not correct on the firmware from the Github page. I set x to -44 and y to -16 and it's nice and centered now. Works great FINALLY!

      @@KeanenWold I also figured this out, SAME exact situation around the same time you got yours. I am new to 3d printing but have an Electrical Engineering background. I was over ambitious and ordered a new printer with ALL the upgrades. Ender 3 pro, official creality BL touch, SKR mini e3 v1.2, with the BTT tft 35., installed octoprint, pi v2 HD camera, and wired ALL the electronics to the back using the guide from Teaching Tech, AND directly powered the Pi using a buck converter set to 5 volts powering off the extruder fan power directly into the Pin on the pi, (not using the micro power cord anymore). You need to follow the youtube video that tells you how to set z offest past zero in the negative direction. the issue is as is, soft endstops is enabled. through pronterface you can disable this: m211. i gave up on bl touch and started from scratch by doing the upgrades one at a time. Im on my very last one, tackling BL touch again. before this i finally mastered manual mesh bed leveling as it comes enabled with the SKR mini E3 1.2 from the stock firmware file from BTT github. for that to work, you have to add M420 S1 in the start code after G28. I dont know if you need to add it with BL touch since G29 AFTER G28 is supposed to retrive bed leveling settings since G28 disables mesh, but i think ill try adding it anyway. Before this, my printer was too far from the bed. about 2-3 mm. Ill try again but i think i might have better success now that ive learned so much by watching these videos.
      So where i am now: connected BLtouch to Zstop, disconnected the Z stop sensor, flashed the new BL touch with Z stop enabled. going to set the z offset past 0 using pronterface(I might try octopi or the TFT screen in touch screen mode since it has that function to send g commands). and test.
      It is a fun hobby if you can get it right!

    For those who have no screen after this mod and you have the crealty 3D BL touch: you likely have this cuz the ground and power are switched in the cable (red is power an blue is ground) the cable has power, ground, data. The mobo needs ground power data. How do you fix this? Use a staple and bend it straight on one end, get the staple in between the plastic "lock" and the actual pin (the side where you can see the pins in the case) and try to gently pull the bue and red cable out (you might need some help with this from a second person) change the locations of the two cables and it should be fixed. CAUTION! if you are not carefull with the staple trick you might brake the plastic lock, this will result in an un-usable connector. Be gentle and dont force it!

    Once I install the BLTouch and flash the new Marlin 2.0.5.3 firmware on my Ender 3 wtth new SKR Mini 3 board; the set up instructions everyone has vary and none seem to work. There is no need for vscode, it supposed to run like a piece of cake....however, establishing the Z axis offset is the mystery. Here's how i have seen it portrayed: Step 1: Do the bed leveling with the BLTouch for the first time. Step 2: Move Z axis down till it just fits a post-it note under the nozzle. Step 3: Add the BLTouch Z offset and the remainder distance you had during the manual Z axis move and add them together. Step 4: Go into the Configuration and change the BLTouch Z offset to the new number total from the addition of both numbers. Save the settings and then print.
    This does not work: My nozzle either is buried into my print bed or hovering above and printing in the air.
    Does anyone have an idea?

    • @TheDefpom

      Keith Adams - I don’t know about using the marlin method, I used the firmware directly from big tree tech as shown. When printing you still need to do the auto homing and loading of the mesh in the gcode, otherwise the nozzle doesn’t touch the bed or crashes into it. The mesh is stored in ram and eprom until you power off the printer, that is why you need to either do a leveling before printing, or load the saved level before printing, otherwise it isn’t actually using the abl level.
