In this video, we will explain how to install and setup a BLtouch sensor on the Creality Ender 3 MAX in 3 easy steps.
For the firmware update, we explain two different ways to do it, using an already compiled firmware that you can download or, compiling your own firmware.

Perfect, i wasnt quite confident in compiling the firmware as to what activates the dedicated 5 pin connector as i was looking for a line that specifically stated such. I did find a pre compiled firmware someone did that is working but now i know how to do my own this will help greatly in the future so i can configure my own custom firmware. Unfortunately my glass bed is bowed which resorted in my having to get the BLTouch in the first place but your videos and some trial and error im now getting good prints :) thanks a million - Matthew
Thank you so much for your firmware! Total life saver! The Creality firmware for the v4.2.2 kept crashing the nozzle into the bed and having probe failure constantly, it was driving me crazy, but yours hasn’t failed once!

i bought the ender 3 in March this year and there were no videos about it yet or not even firmwares :D so i had a lot fo headache from it and sold it, your videos are so helpfull! but my Max is now byebye switched to a way better Printer Fokoos Odin5 and am soo happy with it

Once again a good explanation of a bltouch installation with modifying the firmware and z-offset BUT then you say and do “It’s safe to run the leveling sequence” without any explanation on how to do this. Almost all bltouch install videos do the same. There seems to be no way to run the Leveling from the LCD. For me, I just (from a terminal) run G28 then G29. Is there an easier way?

You can do the exact same thing for the cr touch if you delete the two foward slashes where it says creality touch and leave the slashes in front of bl touch? 10:30

Were Do I get the cable for the BL touch The one I got on Amazon seemed to burnt my board for ender 3 max Any help would be greatly appreciated
Do you only set the z offset when it’s at home?
I have installed a BL Touch on my Ender 3 Max, yet it is mounted on the left side of the nozzle. As a result, the firmware thinks it is on the right side, when probing the first probe misses the bed completely and drives nozzle into the glass bed. Any advice?

It may be me.. but with the latest release, 2.092, this fails with an error relating to BLTouch 5v mode not being compatible with the pin..
I was going nuts trying to figure out why it worked in the video but not when I did it exactly the same steps.. I then noticed you were using 2.091 so grbbed that and its header example and it works exactly as expected..
If you have tried with the latest release and have it working I would be interested to know what is different..

Is this compatible with the CR touch? I'm a novice and I just attempted to install it, but I'm getting an error message when I try to auto home and I don't know *anything* about python or programing

I have the ender 3 max and have installed the bltouch kit that directly plugs in but every time I go to home the printer the z axis goes up if I set the z axis to where it's ment to be then go bed leveling each time it probes the bed the z axis goes up, I'm so confused 🤦♂️😅
i Installed a CR Touch with on my ender 3 max with the Compiled Firmware Versions from creality. But now my firmament detector is not working and when i try using bed leveling option the cr touch leaves the bed on the third point of the test. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi, after instaling your firmware I can't move z onto negative values to calibrate the z offset and the nozzle never touches the bed for calibrate (hola, instalé su versión de firmware y no me permite mover el eje z a negativo, no toca la cama y no puedo calibrar el z offset, desde ya muchas gracias si puedes ayudarme)
Boas Rui, after I insert the probe offset values and I do a bed leveling the X axis goes out of bounds, the values seem okay, i measured them more than once to be sure but to no avail. Do you have any idea whats wrong about it? I'm suspecting it's got something to do with the endstops but i'm not sure. Hope you can help me. And thank you for all the resources that you give us!

When the prober is homing the Z, is the probe centered on the bed?
Did you check/calibrated the home offsets?
The configuration tab doesn't show up on my ender 3 max. But i do have the cr touch firmware on my printer. I am unable to go set the Z offset. How ???
When i auto home, the nozzle went to both homes but when returned to the center it didn't go down. Help!
I'm having a problem with mine where the Bl touch will not calibrate for example if I adjust the offset and then auto home it, it will not get close enough to the bed.
when i ant to change the probe Z offset value, the bed is moving! as i was physically at the "0" point, impossible to set a negative value.... and bugs, of course.
I put the sd card on with the files and none of the options are doing anything, its also changed some of the menu words it no longer says control or prepare
My printer is Ender 3, I use Ender 3 Configuration > CrealityV422. Then do all the steps in this video, but when I do auto bed level, nozzle check Home, then back to Z Safe Homing. what's wrong?
Can you add PID tune for bed, babysteps and bed tramming to the firmware? To both 4.2.2 and 4.2.7
The new 32 bit boards from Creality have much more programming space when compared with the older 8bits one which means you can add all the features you need in the firmware, compile it and upload it to the board.
What about cr touch is this the same process?

Hi Henry, did you enable the babysteps feature in the firmware? Check our latest video as it will help you with the editing ( th-cam.com/video/ire4ZcAUsjA/w-d-xo.html )
What about tightening or loosening the bolts on the bed is that not necessary if you have a BL touch
You need to have the bed at least somewhat leveled or the leveling sensor will not be able to compensate.
can this be done on a mac?
Hi I've installed the BL touch onto my Ender 3 Max, when running the self-test or deploy or stow options it works accordingly, however when trying to use the bed level option it just rams the print plate and keeps going, I've tried to activate the probe with my finger before it hits the bed and instead it just starts blinking red whilst moving down towards the print bed.
I've tried to connect the BL touch to the designated connector on the board as well as on the Z connector with the appropriate firmware for each attempt and regardless the outcome is the same where it appears the BL touch does not trigger anything and starts flashing red.
Hi, if you can control the sensor with the menu it means that the problem might be related with the white and black wires. Try swapping the black with the white (and vice versa). Always trigger the sensor with you finger to test if everything is ok before testing on the print surface to avoid damaging the printer if something is not working correctly.

this video did help. however..... being that im such a noob to this.... i could not figure out the last 2 min. you didnt show how you got to those screens in cura and no matter what button i pushed i cant find it so i can enter that "gcode" you mentioned....... i hope the print still works without doing that last step
also, i dont see a "baby step z" option.........sigh or will it only show up if went through with that last step?

Hey mate, i joined your patreon to get an already confiled version. however when i'm setting up my z offset, it won't go down.. (i was originally using creality version however it kept crashing into plate)

Hello Rui, I tried to follow your steps for the firmware build and was unsuccessful. My ender max wouldn't load it. So I tried to load the one you made with the dedicated Bltouch plug. Everything loaded but I'm not able to adjust the z axis bellow 0 and can't set the probe offset. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

to be able to go bellow 0, you need to first define a negative Z probe offset. Why can't you set the probe offset?
@@ruiraptor I adjusted the Z probe offset to negative 3 and store setting. Then I proceeded to fine tune the Z probe offset by measuring the distance by moving the z axis. At that point it would not let me go negative.

@@iamfmp I finally found the "Move Axis" option and was able to get the print nozzle close enough to the bed for the PLA to actually adhere for the first time in a print. But it only printed endlessly at the same level, and the print head was crooked, as if it was down too far. Then it started scraping. WELL THEN, down too far this time. Now the glass has scratch marks that won't come out, ruined.
This is wonderful. Wish you could just follow instructions and watch it work! No such luck for me.
can you do 5x5 grid point
the amount of points on the grid is defined in the firmware. You can choose 4x4 or 5x5 if you want.
This is ANYTHING but easy. Oh the installation is simple enough. Be prepared to spend days fighting with the Z offset. Mine continually prints too high, even when "Move Z" goes all the way to its lowest setting.
Oh and I definitely have an Ender 3 Max, but I have no "Motion" and "Axis" options. At 14:23 mine instead says "Info Screen", "Prepare", "Control", "TF Card" and "Change Filament". Well that's not good.

Ahhh, so IF the bed is very flat (and that's easy to check with the paper test), then you don't need the BL touch sensor..as it's main job is to compensate for non-flat beds. I never would have known (at least not until I already bought one!)..
BLTOUCH_SET_5V_MODE IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE Z_MIN_PIN ERROR
Disable the following line in Configuration_adv.h: "#define BLTOUCH_SET_5V_MODE".

You most likely downloaded the incorrect firmware. You probably need Ender-3 max 4.2.2mainboard bltouchfirmware

It’s been so long, I don’t recall. It might have been supplied on another TH-cam video or web tutorial. First step, if you have not done so already check which board version you have in your printer. Then search for that firmware.

Did you connect the sensor correctly? Did you connect to the dedicated Bltouch connector or to the Z endstop connector? Did you try to swap the black and white wires and see if it helps?
I had installed a BLTouch on my Ender 3 V2 3D printer, but it did not help level the bed. This is not what this device does anyway, which is why you have to do it yourself before using the BLTouch. The BLTouch is only useful if your build plate has surface irregularities, and even then it's not that useful. I removed the BLTouch from my printer some time ago. I squared off the frame on my printer, added a second lead screw to the right side of the printer to reduce gantry sag, and replaced the bed springs with more rigid silicone bed mounts. I haven't had any printing problems since I did these simple modifications. The BLTouch is only necessary when your build surface is extremely warped. Otherwise, it's a gadget, and you don't really need it.
