Sharla (controlled) Drive Boost 50% Cooldown Reduction at max rank. Thunder Bullet at max level has ~10 second cooldown. Combine with Riki's Cooldown during day/night skills another 10%/15% cooldown reduction. Aura Bullet = +10 Seconds to Drive Boost. AI follows game decided tank priority when using it though so AI Sharla doesn't use it on herself much since she has the lowest tank priority if all characters have auras up. So it'd be mainly only good in player hands. All these 3 things combined and Sharla has 3 second Thunder Bullet Cooldown. Thunder Bullet has a 2.07 Arts multiplier and it hits twice (4.14). Melia's Summon bolt has a 4.03 Arts multiplier and it hits once. But it also has a 12.3 second cooldown at level 10 due to Melia not having Drive Boost. Though Melia has a higher Ether stat and bolt increases Ether by a little and sometimes has Elemental burst, Sharla's Thunder Bullet actually can out damage it. Though Sharla can't out damage Melia completely due to Melia's DoTs being very good. Metal Blast I'd consider awful because the heat it gives and the cooldown is awful. And Sharla doesn't belong in any topple lock party for Metal Blast to be useful. I dislike Head Shaker since it's a close ranged art. It also has abysmal cooldowns even with Drive Boost and since Sharla can't move with Drive Boost, it's not even that effective. I dislike Head Shot because Sharla doesn't mesh too well with a lot of physical attackers. And the cooldown is long and it's dependent on Sharla's bad stat. If enemies have multi-hit attacks, heal counter might be good especially with Recovery Up gems on tanks since it's sort of an aggro-less heal. And Sharla AI might use it regardless of current ally health. Sharla's AI knows when Sleep would make an enemy art change to something weaker in a vision so on any enemies vulnerable to sleep, she breaks visions with Tranq which is the best sleep art. Tranq is also capable of abusing the enemy despawn bug near Daulton to kill level 80s when first getting into Satorl Marsh but that gets into more of just breaking the game. Sharla's AI Shield Bullet usage at the start of battle follows tank priority decided by the game and in visions she targets whoever is targeted. Heal Counter also follows tank priority. Once Recovery Up gems are in play, all of Sharla's heals get fairly ridiculous. So with HP Up gems, Sharla can act as a secondary tank just from her aggro generation with her heals and acts sort of like an HP sponge due to Drive Boost giving her all 3 heals very quickly. It's convenient that one of her skill trees is a HP boosting one. Once Debuff Resist gems come into play both Cure Bullet and Round become obsolete. Covert Stance is a very strong art early game but it's true that it's outclassed by Drive Boost once Sharla gets Drive Boost. Since early on in the game, Sharla doesn't have the HP or good enough heal arts cooldowns to last against enemies. Covert Stance is only used by the AI when Sharla gets aggro. And it's the strongest aggro reducing thing in the game. One decent early game combo for Sharla with Covert Stance would be just sticking Debuff Gems + Weapon Power gems on her weapons like Paralysis since she's always in range even as an AI to auto-attack. And her early cooldowns are so abysmal that that'd be a decent early game strategy for her.
According to Enel's comment in his How to use Sharla in XC:DE, Cool Off has a hidden effect in that it boost healing and damage inversely, as in when it is cooled it boosts healing and reduces damage, and when it is close to overheating it boosts damage and reduces heating. Hey dude, found you again years ago after listening to you hears ago to figure out the game, with the remake out now, you really should put out more content and guides like that, you're really good at not only giving good information but being funny and entertaining too
Woah woah woah, whaaaat? You find Aura Bullet useless??? It can extend any aura, and is especially useful to use on auras that have naturally long cooldowns, like Seven's Speed Shift, or maybe an aura that's effect time is just shorter than it's cooldown time, like Reyn's Rage, Dunban's Spirit Breath, or Seven's Healing Energy, or the best use for aura bullet is on Sharla herself when she activates Drive Boost. Seriously. Heck, with auras that have longer effect times than Aura Bullet's cooldown, like Dunban's Heat Haze, it can be used multiple times on it. Heck, it can be used to extend Melia's Elemental Burst! It's so good. I never found Heat Bullet that great, because while it can increase tension, it can never raise the tension level past high tension, meaning it's really only good to get neutral tension to high tension, as low tension can be set to neutral tension just by encouraging the ally. So unless you really really need to get from neutral to high tension right away, I don't see it's use. Now if it didn't have a cap and could raise tension from high to very high, theeeeeen it'd be amazing. I also personally don't like Head Shaker. While it sounds good on paper, with Head Shaker inflicting Daze to follow up immediately with Head Shot for instant death, I never found it to be so easy, because it still relies on the AI to topple, which means it's very rare to get into a position to shoot Head Shot outside of Chain Attacks. Another drawback of Head Shaker is that it is a melee art, meaning in the time you take to run to the enemy after it's toppled and start up Head Shaker with it's long start up, the topple is already over, unless you're fighting at melee range at the start anyway, which is NOT where you want Sharla to be at any point. I've only really managed to pull off Head Shot in a chain attack, which then you can use your party members' arts, and considering half of the other party members have a daze art, it's not that hard. Lastly, on the note of her gems, yeah Ether gems are a must, and Electric Plus gems are good, but what about Heat Sink?? The wonderful wonderful wonderful gem specifically made for Sharla that decreases the amount her arts increase her Talent Gauge??? And what about like Arts Stealth or Aggro Down? Those are good too on her. My Art Setup for Sharla is Thunder Bullet, Head Shot, Metal Blast OR Shield Bullet (depending on the situation), Drive Boost, Aura Bullet, Heal Bullet, Heal Round, and Cure Round.
It's just that the few times that I have tried to use Aura Bullet, it's ended up doing nothing and being dead weight on my arts screen. Eventually I lost patience with experimenting and trying to make it useful, so I discarded it. But thanks for the info! Maybe I'll try using it a bit more whenever I do another playthrough of Xenoblade. And yes, Heat Bullet can't get you to max tension, but it helps you reach that point and quickly recover when tension drops. And while you can get from low to neutral by encouraging the ally, you have to go to them, which takes more time and puts you closer to the enemy. Meanwhile with Heat Bullet, you can do it immediately from Sharla's normal range. But I can see why it would be seen as not needed. I never had that problem with Head Shaker though. Usually I get into range right when the enemy gets inflicted with break in case the AI decides to topple it, which they usually will if they have a topple art available (assuming the AI decides to work properly). Also, I actually completely forgot Heat Sink gems existed. But now I wish I had mentioned them when I made this video. Maybe I'll make an annotation mentioning them.
Tanman777 No problem. I'll be sure to try out the things I've learned from your videos too in my playthrough. As for Heat Bullet, that's true. I can see where getting them off of low tension asap can save your butt. As for the Head Shaker, I guess I just have had many times where they are inflicted with break and I know my allies have a topple art and haven't used it for awhile, but they just go on auto-attacking or something stupid like that, so I didn't give Head Shaker the time of day to experiment with it. I think I used it for just like 2 hours, and disregarded it. Like with Heat Bullet, I'll have to try it more, you do make good points. Yeah Heat Sink is amazing. At max, it can cut down Heal Bullet's Talent Gauge cost to pretty much nonexistence, Heal Round's to just a little more than Heal Bullet's normal cost, and make Drive Boost a bit more worth it. Thanks for responding by the way! I never really expected it. I appreciate all the info and such.
I think I was too put off by the inability to move with drive boost on. I did however typically start a fight with metal bullet, someone topple them in the next move, and then I'd daze them with head shaker. Typically, Ryne and Shulk would also daze them. Meanwhile I was spamming thunder bullet and then the thing would be dead. All in all, she "should" have been healing, but would end up just killing everything immediately... I never did complete the game though... my Wii kept crapping out, and my emulator really hated me in the final story dungeon. Can't wait for the remake!
pablojrl123 Riki is unique because he’s one out of two jack of all trade characters. That second one being Seven. You just have to be creative and build Riki in any way you like
Addendum: I may have been wrong about Covert Stance. I find myself getting the aggro as Sharla a lot more than I remember in Definitive Edition, so either I was wrong about that or I’m just playing bad
This is how the developers should have made sharla. Change her talent art to something called healing strength (or something) and when it's full it's a damaging art that does little damage but all the damage she healed is added to damage. Add at least 2 damaging arts/ status arts and increase her ether and especially strength. After that you can have an awesome healer and potential for some of the highest damage in the game. I wish sharla was good because she is a great character! Screw "Poor Melia" Poor Sharla
I personally find covert stance very useful. In my playthroughs I'm always drawing PLENTY of aggro with sharlas healing arts, and having it also prevent any additional aggro while it's active can be helpful if everyones taking a lot of damage and you need to heal a lot, fast, so that you don't have all the enemies hassle sharla all of a sudden, especially since she can heal a lot.
As for ideas, I wouldn't mind seeing what you'd think about the other characters arts and the recommendations for each character and what gems to put on their equipment etc. Cuz I do find it interesting what other people might suggest what they like doing and what they may not like doing and seeing if their ways may apply for my runs of this game, y'know?
I actually don't have Head Shaker or Heat Bullet on Sharla that often. Head Shaker alternates with Drive Boost for me and I honestly don't end up using Heat Bullet much after mid-game. Shield Bullet I feel lets you play higher level enemies without Shulk in the party as you can usually have access to it with a vision if you have Drive Boost equipped. The biggest downsides to Shield Bullet and Drive Boost is the sheer amount of AP they cost to level up because they're actually ridiculously high. I usually go Cure Round, Heal Bullet, Heal Round, Thunder Bullet, Shield Bullet, Head Shot, and Metal Blast are the 7 arts I focus on with Sharla while Drive Boost and Head Shaker share the 8th art slot based on the party I'm using and enemy I'm fighting.
Always thought Sharla could've done with an extra Ether damaging art to make a decent ether damage setup. Called something like Explosive Vent, she'd quickly vent her rifle through the barrel, reducing the talent gauge by like 20% and deal damage and inflict blaze in a cone in front of her, with a medium cooldown. combined with Thunder Bullet and Drive Boost, she'd be able to keep outputting ether damage for ages before needing to cool off. Thoughts?
Surprisingly I mostly played and enjoyed sharla. Dispite my hatred for the rifle cool down that I found out later you can manually activate instead of let it get full.
When playing as Sharla use covert stance spam metal blast thunder bullet sheild bullet heat bullet and heal if needed then cool off use this at the beginning of a battle to do pretty good damage without drawing aggro
She was the character I was referring to at 11:10 I would love to make a video on her; she's my favorite character to play as alongside Melia. But I can't really think of a way to make a guide on her without spoiling people in one way or the other, and I'd rather not ruin that part of the game for people. And even if I do get around the title/thumbnail issue and label the video as a "Seven Guide", people who are not at that point in the game and are just curious about this 7th party member could still watch the video unaware that the video in of itself is a really big spoiler for the game.
This is a pretty good video, I liked that you went through each art and the situations it could be useful in. Do you think you'll revist this series once the Xenoblade remake comes out?
‘Seven’ is a codename for the Spoiler Character you get later on in the game, its used to avoid using their real name. Basically the last party member if you know what I’m talking about
JGRoyal ok now I know exactly who it is. I’m glad I didn’t mention any names. I was blown away when I got introduced. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing out on a character. Plus I also didn’t want to spoil anyone either. Thanks
Seriously surprised you find that Heal Counter to be useless; At level 45 with only one HP Plus IV and one HP Plus III, my Reyn has 8000 HP. That means he heals for 400 for each hit he takes, up to the maximum charges available. With the level of charges you have here (8, one less than my current level) that means that you're healing for 3,200 HP, which is more than the max HP healed from Heal Bullet, but you don't have to use it reactively; you can toss it on to Reyn and then hit Cool Off, so he is still getting healed while you're clearing heat.
Cure round becomes completely useless once you have access to debuff resist gems. It's a nice art during the playthrough, but not in the endgame. Also, I don't see the point of giving her so many Ether up gems when she only has ONE ether attack (thunder bullet). The gem set I usually use is: Weapon: Electric plus, Heat sink, Arts stealth / Arts heal. Armour: HP up, Debuff resist / Topple resist / Daze resist (depending of the enemy), Agility up, Muscle up / Ether def up (depending of the armour), Unbeatable.
I might be late, since this was posted a year ago, but her healing capabilities scale with Ether stat. Meaning that a high ether value means more healing, so I consider it way more important. Of course it buffs Thunder Bullet as well, which is nice. Also, I am on my second playthrough currently (around LV 80), and I've seen the "debuff resist gems" argument multiple times. I'm not there yeet, but what if I find some other gems more useful? Then I don't need to worry about "cluttering" my armors with the resist gem, I merely have to give this one character a skill that makes worrying about enemy debuffs completely obsolete. I'll most likely take that second option and give the other party members one or two more damage increasing gems ;)
Even letting the AI control her, after getting the right skills unlocked, her Cool Off is tolerable in length. Still not great, but tolerable. And Aura Bullet really isn't that great. Chances are that characters using commonly used auras would have them last long enough (particularly with Dunban's Sustained Spirit link) for 98% of the battles you would be doing. At the highest levels, without topple lock/lucky chaining, the superbosses are the only enemies that would usually take long enough to justify it. And are you really going to play Sharla during a superboss? In theory, it could be useful for things like Jaws of Death, Last Stand, etc... that have huge cooldown times. But again, in normal circumstances, you'd trigger it at the beginning of a vision to ensure they live. The effect time of both anti-death auras easily outlast a typical vision length at base and are consumed after fulfilling the death condition. So Aura Bullet can't even do anything there unless you're super paranoid about dying all the time. Heck, most auras period can match cooldown to effect time with Sustained Spirit; Dunban's own Peerless cools down completely and can sit in the bar unused for a while before needed to activate again. It's a moot point. And Shield Bullet is better then you think. It's a poor man's Monado Armor, available SUPER early in the game as opposed to the latter's reliance on a sidequest more than halfway in, plus it stacks with said Armor. With the two, you could likely neutralize all damage to a single target (and funnily enough, it stops instant death-inflicting attacks, desipte not giving debuff immunity; try it on Deinos Saurus's Devour X and see for yourself) I do recommend linking Explosion of Energy to her if she's human controlled (or AI, if you have THAT many spare coins lying around) It's so broken in manipulating tension it's hilarious. You get a dodge bonus for higher tension levels, so it actually does help her survive against the superbosses. (As a side mension, Melia and Shulk can abuse this even better. Reyn could as well, but he's better off dumping his gauge into Magnum Charge)
You guys are all wrong. Sharla is great and if you incorporate here into a shulk/reyn party she is brilliant. You can't lose battles so long as you're pacing yourself and keeping aggro away from her. Flawless healer who let's you focus on managing enemies.
No she's straight up the worst party member in the game, you don't need healing in xenoblade and she does the least damage out of anyone by far. Also almost all her arts are blue so she's terrible in chain attacks and she has her terrible talent art too making her EVEN worse. Honestly Melia or Riki should be enough healing and the only reason Sharla needs so much healing in the first place is because she drags fights out so much.
Am I the only that feels like Sharla is a MUST have at any and every single moment? I'm on my first playthrough, and don't worry, I'm very close to the end of the game, so don't worry about spoilers while talking about the game. But yeah, unless I'm doing something wrong, I just feel like almost any time I'm not using her, at least against enemies on the same level or slightly higher levels, my team I instantly dies when she's not on it. I've tried having something like Shulk, Riki, and Melia on a team, since Riki and Melia can heal, as well as Shulk can, but that team dies extremely fast. Then I'd try Melia, Riki, and Reyn since Reyn is my tank, so I figured that Rili and Melia could keep him alive, but that hardly ever works. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I've kitted them all with gems and equipment that suit their roles well, so I'm not sure. I've even tried level 5 gems, yet nothing seems to work. This has created a pretty big problem as my affinity between characters is really strong between certain ones and really low between others. But almost everyone has an extremely high affinity with Sharla.
While Sharla is a good healer, I think the main problem is that you run a lot of squishy high damage characters, but not enough aggro soakers. Melia is strongest with tanks and aggro hogs, particularly Rein and Dunban. Melia can also work well with Seven (I don't want to spoil some random person on the seventh party member, since its kindof an important plot moment) since she can kinda mesh into whatever role you slot her for. Riki is a really weird tank, since he doesn't gain much for aggro, so he never really soaks as much damage as you want him to. Also, if you are running Berserker on Rein, while it is a good art you may want to swap it off if you aren't leading with Rein, since the AI can use it when it isn't needed and die quickly. Dunban is a really strong character, and works well when you don't have much for heals since he dodges a lot of damage, especially while running Serene Heart. I don't remember the name of the skill tree, but the far left skill tree for Dunban focuses on having no armor and gives a 30% agility bonus for having none, and makes him soak a LOT of aggro. He stays roughly as tanky without the armor if you use Serene Heart a lot, and he takes a lot more aggro so it could be a good substitute for Sharla for making your other characters last longer.
Wait...THE AI NEVER COOLS OFF EARLY?! *THAT'S WHY THE AI SHARLA GUMS UP MY CHAIN ATTACKS?!?!* >:( Goddammit, AI! Legit, the fact it gums up Chain attacks is the ONLY thing I don't like about Sharla. She's got some really useful arts otherwise (even if 90% of them being blue makes Chains difficult), and when I did my first run of the game (a low level run), her healing was absolutely essential for the majority of the game for me.
Sharla (controlled)

I think I used it for just like 2 hours, and disregarded it. Like with Heat Bullet, I'll have to try it more, you do make good points.
Yeah Heat Sink is amazing. At max, it can cut down Heal Bullet's Talent Gauge cost to pretty much nonexistence, Heal Round's to just a little more than Heal Bullet's normal cost, and make Drive Boost a bit more worth it.
Thanks for responding by the way! I never really expected it. I appreciate all the info and such.
Who tf is seven?
I think I was too put off by the inability to move with drive boost on. I did however typically start a fight with metal bullet, someone topple them in the next move, and then I'd daze them with head shaker. Typically, Ryne and Shulk would also daze them. Meanwhile I was spamming thunder bullet and then the thing would be dead. All in all, she "should" have been healing, but would end up just killing everything immediately...
I never did complete the game though... my Wii kept crapping out, and my emulator really hated me in the final story dungeon.
Can't wait for the remake!
PLEASE MAKE A RIKI VIDEO PLEASE
And Dunban pls ^^
I hate that Furby ball. I have never use it :p Seems dificult.
pablojrl123 just spam arts lol
pablojrl123 Riki is unique because he’s one out of two jack of all trade characters. That second one being Seven. You just have to be creative and build Riki in any way you like
Think you could do a video about the character skills
Mitch Man seconded
Addendum: I may have been wrong about Covert Stance. I find myself getting the aggro as Sharla a lot more than I remember in Definitive Edition, so either I was wrong about that or I’m just playing bad
I have it on her because it doesn’t heat up the gun and the AI doesn’t heal herself
This guide makes Sharla sound interesting to use
I really appreciate the Puella Madoka Magica and Steven Universe music in the background
Screw "Poor Melia" Poor Sharla
that's a cool idea
*In Sovjet Bionis, Sharla USES YOU!!*
Considering The Xeno series history with healers like Billy and Citan it’s just depressing looking at Sharla.
watching the video to learn tricks for sharla, but can't think anything but "wow, what a nice voice"
Yay! I really love your videos and hope you continue to upload. They're really great!
I have all 3 heal arts, shield bullet, cure round, thunder bullet, headshaker, and headshot. I can't bare to get rid of any of them
I actually don't have Head Shaker or Heat Bullet on Sharla that often.
My Arts(Left Most To Right Most)Cure Round,Shield Bullet,Heal Round,Heal Blast,HEAD SHOT,Head Shaker,Metal Blast,Thunder Bullet
I love Sharla so much AAAAAA 😭
Always thought Sharla could've done with an extra Ether damaging art to make a decent ether damage setup. Called something like Explosive Vent, she'd quickly vent her rifle through the barrel, reducing the talent gauge by like 20% and deal damage and inflict blaze in a cone in front of her, with a medium cooldown. combined with Thunder Bullet and Drive Boost, she'd be able to keep outputting ether damage for ages before needing to cool off. Thoughts?
i like it
Surprisingly I mostly played and enjoyed sharla. Dispite my hatred for the rifle cool down that I found out later you can manually activate instead of let it get full.
I legit used Sharla (in a team of Riki and Shulk) to take down the Territorial Rotbart in Gaur Plains....at level 44
bro wtf how
@@robo567
I have no idea
It took about 15 or 20 minutes
jesus christ
Want impossible mode, use glorious future on sharla
natthebutterfly Dear god I never thought of that, that sounds AWFUL
natthebutterfly How curious, I could swear those were also chuggaaconroy's words: regardless, doing such would still be a major pain without a doubt.
When playing as Sharla use covert stance spam metal blast thunder bullet sheild bullet heat bullet and heal if needed then cool off use this at the beginning of a battle to do pretty good damage without drawing aggro
you should make a fiora video, I love how you go in depth on what's useful and you've helped me make her one of my go-to's in a fight
She was the character I was referring to at 11:10
I would love to make a video on her; she's my favorite character to play as alongside Melia.
Thankfully she seems a bit better about cooling off in Definitive Edition.
I like this series and I would like to hear your thought's on the rest of the Xenoblade Chronicles crew.
Sure Cure Bullet/Round are great, although once I got those Debuff Resist VI they became useless.
This is a pretty good video, I liked that you went through each art and the situations it could be useful in. Do you think you'll revist this series once the Xenoblade remake comes out?
YESSSSSSSSS! I've been waiting for this for months!
Aura extender is not so unuseful when you have all party with 3 Aura Heal Gems each! I only watched the final boss battle eating pop corn lol.
Who is Seven? Is it a placeholder name to avoid character spoilers? I played this game before but I don’t remember a Seven
LMFAO I love your videos! You are so funny!
I really hope they change her talent art in definetive edition.
Lol
Who is seven?
Step 1: Don't.
Hopefully thisll be helpful in def edition
why did you make the melia video private?
Cure round becomes completely useless once you have access to debuff resist gems. It's a nice art during the playthrough, but not in the endgame.
Also, I don't see the point of giving her so many Ether up gems when she only has ONE ether attack (thunder bullet).
The gem set I usually use is:
Weapon: Electric plus, Heat sink, Arts stealth / Arts heal.
Can u make these videos for de or is it the exact same?
I don’t own DE yet because money, but I’m 99% sure everything works the same. DE is just a graphical update of this game with some extra content
Does anyone know what the song at Sharla's talent art is?

@@Tanman77777 Thank you!
With the two, you could likely neutralize all damage to a single target (and funnily enough, it stops instant death-inflicting attacks, desipte not giving debuff immunity; try it on Deinos Saurus's Devour X and see for yourself)
I do recommend linking Explosion of Energy to her if she's human controlled (or AI, if you have THAT many spare coins lying around) It's so broken in manipulating tension it's hilarious. You get a dodge bonus for higher tension levels, so it actually does help her survive against the superbosses. (As a side mension, Melia and Shulk can abuse this even better. Reyn could as well, but he's better off dumping his gauge into Magnum Charge)
Why is Tomoe Mami transforming?
I swear Sharla’s AI barely ever healed anyone. I had more luck with Riki
*THAT'S WHY THE AI SHARLA GUMS UP MY CHAIN ATTACKS?!?!*
>:( Goddammit, AI!
Remove some arts
@@rayminishi689 Why? If she has less arts, she'll fun out of stuff to do and then Cool Off early?
