Is it fixed? Chery Omoda 5 2023 review: EX | Updated Kia Seltos rival attempts to improve steering

- The 2023 Chery Omoda 5 launched to media earlier this year to high interest, as it signalled the Chinese brand's re-entry to the Australian market. But things didn't exactly go to plan, as the new small SUV had some niggling issues.
Specifically, among other things, the Kia Seltos rival's steering assist system wasn't up to the safety par, so much so that Chery updated the Omoda 5 locally before customer deliveries actually began - and this is our first taste of it.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Journalist Chris Thompson spends a week with the updated Omoda 5's flagship EX variant to see if it steers better than it did when we first encountered it. He also delivers his overall verdict on the crossover, which could become a familiar sight soon.

Perhaps the suspension tune is exactly what many people who buy this car want. Instead of these so called testers saying that Chinese cars need an Australian suspension tune why not say they personally like a more bolted down sporty tune. As people age they like their surroundings to be a bit more sublime.
Poor braking distance of over 40m for 100km/h to stop. Humongous amount of nose dive during braking, even relative to the comfy family SUV segments. The suspension tuning poses safety concern, need seriously complete rework.
The red accents on the reviewer’s hands were an interesting touch.
Good review, now I can't wait to test drive it in Malaysia
Wonderful content.
Great review. I would like to see a review on the new ux luxury 2.0 naturally aspirated engine please.
The BYD also have the same problem
Where are the roof rails so-called 'cosmetic display only do not use'? It was a matter of ADR investigation on Chery J1, J3 and J11.
For the fuel consumption, was the Omada 5 under Eco or Sports mode? Also what was RON fuel type used?
I own and drive it, and in city average consumption for ECO mode is 8.6L / 100KM. Still bellow what chery promised, but not that bad. Recommended RON is min 91, but i personally use 92, since that's what available in my country
@@gwpytact51hey, I’m thinking of buying this car. Since you already own this, do you think you would recommend it? Why or why not?
@@nishitanishad5576 i personally would recommend it base on what you get for what you pay. Definitely a much better deal compared to an offer from other brands. The engine might not be very efficient in term of consumption, but it's very powerful. You barely need to press down the pedal to hit 100-120kph. It's feature packed if purchased in highest trim, mind you that it might overwhelm at the beginning, to learn and set every function of the car, but once settled it's rewarding. As for negatives, some reliability concern remain, i suggest not to park for long period under sun in hot weather without putting sunshade on the windshield, some users reporting that their dash and headunit refuse to turn on after doing so. (it works again after cooling down for a while tho), others reporting brake sensor lit up when the brake is heat up, but in my case, it's due to low brake fluid pressure (the factory miss to tighten my brake fluid tank cap to corect degree - once tighten, the error never coming back). Safety is on highest level with 5 star of NCAP, but the ADAS might have it's quirk. I suggest you to do a full ADAS calibration at dealership upon purchase, else it might throw an error when you bring full passengers (due to elevated angle of the radar when the car is fully loaded at rear) - it never give error once calibrated. Also depending on ypur country, ypu might want to fill with premium gas, because in some country, even with higher RON it can produce knocking. If you face bad knockinh situation, chery is offering free ECU remap program, with a catch of ECO mode being slightly more sluggish. I think it's designed for a spirited driving from factory, thus an early "gear shifting" to higher one while.still in low RPM in ECO mode might trigger the knocking case. It only happen to several car btw. Overall, i enjoy my purchase very much. I enrich my entertainment system with Android Box as well, so that i can have an advance system monitoring through OBDII directly connected to my head unit along with full Netflix, and TH-cam capability.
Great vid CarsGuide and Chris!
Some of these comments however absolutely suck.
Great review 👍
There's one thing i would like to add,
i dont know whether it's region based or software update things
but my omoda has as option to remember the driving assistant features state (on / off), so that it doesn't keep reverting back to default upon restart - like what the reviewer said in this video
i think for this kind of modern car where it has it's own CPU/processing software, it would be better if the reviewer also stating the car "firmware version"
id buy it, sort out the lane assist issue and its a winner
Perplexing... CVTs are supposed to increase efficiency (the only lame reason anyone would have one) but very few cars with CVTs actually have claimed/real good fuel figures...
Is there no cool seat on the vehicle
That intrusive lane assist is downright dangerous!
Ditch the bleeding nail varnish man.
😂
What a shame it is a very attractive car. In the era of fuel economy and safety.
Was that Joe Dirt?
I haaate the red accents
On the car or his nails? Lol
Australian car market has plenty of choice now
You are too fussy 😅😮

I can't take this car review seriously with that hilarious hair haha
and nails🤣
I'm jealous of his hair and nails
You only get one chance to make a first impression, and Chery blew it.
Pink 😅
Tyres are weird. Spoils the whole looks. It's like tyres are too small for the car.
Why would a guy paint his nails red? It's just so puzzling and very distracting.
I cant handle old mates finger nails.
Drinks more like a v8
Why the nail polish 🤦
If he likes it, then more power to him
Why not?
Bearded Lady?????
He likes red accents and wanted to match the Chery! Lol
Bay a mersedes if you a not happy
Some insecure men are in the comments loosing sleep about ur nails 😂. I think they are cute.
