Wow the feeling of the show is so different early on because of the lack of constant suspenseful background music. It seems so much more quiet without it lol
It's because this was before Gordon started his own production company called "One Potato Two Potato". The newer seasons are produced by Gordon and his own production company. So blame Gordon.
Kahlil Dukes but the changes weren't even gradual. they changed dramatically seemingly overnight. it started similar to the UK version and then became cooking's Jerry Springer
+fluffynoses Absolutely right. First season was very calm and serious. Second and third were a little bit more "action-y", but still not like the later seasons. Season 4 is almost my favorite, so many comical characters and moments, but from season 5 and onwards is just very stressful and almost unwatchable. Although season 5 is okay because they are talented.
Ironically, some of them have worked in restaurants. There are executive chefs & sous chefs right there, but they couldn't handle the pressure. It's ridiculous.
+BrockL191 I can only assume Ramsay told them they could do that after he saw they'd been waiting far too long. I'd guess if you were to order pizza in his restaurant you'll be lucky to live for ten minutes while they are rushing you to hospital after Ramsay has rammed the pizza delivery guy through the customer...
I've never had a problem with Ramsay's handling of the kitchen, though he himself has readily admitted that he was a different person at that point in his life. Much more aggressive than now. When he gets upset these days, it's still intense, but less personal. It's more observational anger than jump down your throat anger. Around this time in his life, Ramsay was dealing with a lot of problems in his life which he has said caused this approach. He can't even watch Boiling Point without feeling embarrassed. Straight out of his own mouth.
i really enjoyed season 1, what set it apart from the rest was that none of these chefs had any clue what they were getting into as opposed to other seasons where competitors have watched the show and know what to expect. I always thought it was cool how Ralph was the blue team's one man army and Michael was the red team's one man army
What people need to understand is that the producers and directors of the show WANT Ramsay to be rude and act like an ass for dramatic effect. If you watch his other shows youll find out hes actually a very nice guy....
Actually he IS like that. He's just not that hard on the chefs on Masterchef because they're home cooks. Meanwhile here the cooks are more professional. Why shouldn't he be mad? Who wouldn't be if someone's screwing up your business?
They had a show a long time ago called "Ramsay's Boiling Point" that was following Ramsay in one of his early restaurants. He really is like that in the kitchen. Outside of the kitchen, he's a great guy. In the kitchen, he's just an old school chef. If you've ever worked in a fine dining restaurant, a lot of Chefs are like that.
Peke it’s “You’re” not “Your” honestly bro take a look at your comment cause that’s what you are. Sure we can use it like “...how is Your new house.” But in this example “Your”is meant to replace the word “the”.

First several seasons are absolutely amazing, yes Gordon is very tough, but you get the feeling he is really trying to teach them something and there is no annoying background buildup music for every single conversation. After that, it just became comical, reality tv show similar to big brother with crazy people and Gordon just shouting all the time. Same thing with kitchen nightmares, another great show that just became comical after several seasons. Why did Ramsay do this? I effin loved these shows
True, I stopped watching Hell's Kitchen after about season 6 and Kitchen Nightmares was much better when he did the UK version. Gordon sold out for money, he's just a caricature of himself now.
@@Midgar2310 Gordon didn't change. The shouting and screaming and professionalism remained, but the producers of the show Americanised the hell out of it. It became a success of course, but the British versions of his shows are miles better.

Several reasons why i personally enjoy season 1 more then many of the other seasons and why this season is unique 1. Literally most of these contestants fo not work in a restaurant as a profession, maybe as a part-time but it is really a cooking competition amongst amateurs trying to prove to a world class chef they have what it takes. Later seasons, you can have whole teams of executive chefs and they still mess up, which makes you wonder are they really that terrible or is it maybe for drama. 2. There’s way less unnecessary background music for suspense. It’s quiet and intense at the same time, quiet enough to hear the pots and tongs clanging but intense enough to feel the atmosphere 3. You can feel Season 1’s Chef Ramsay is the original Chef Ramsay from the UK, the Boiling Point and The F Word Chef Ramsay, and he isn’t yelling his balls off like in later seasons which i think, is mainly for dramatic effects. He coaches, motivates and only scolds them when they make the worst mistakes. Swearing and insulting people is British culture. I saw it all the time in the UK. It should never be taken personally. Before the show, producers should have told the Americans about British culture. A lot of them take it to the heart. The tongue is a powerful muscle, and the British people are orators.
