As a pro chef for 25 years I respect and could learn so much from both these men. Kitchen work is hard ,hot ,high pressure and all.real chefs are volatile. I love it not for the thin skinned.

Kind of like fletcher in whiplash, he was extremely harsh because he wanted to push his musicians to be great, but look at what happened to Shaun Casey, he ended up killing himself because he felt could never live up to those expectations. You can definitely tell that both Marco and Gordon were brash and egotystical back then. You had to be if you wanted to make it in this industry. So the two of them having a falling out seems almost like an inevitability. You can certainly feel how age has whethered the two of them in different ways. Marco is now much more calm and at ease compared to his younger days. And Gordon's passion and ambition has been tempered into a more nurtured love and humility to the craft.

As someone who has worked in a restaurant that had 1 michelin star HOLY SHIT the toxicity of everyone involved in that circle. Just constant shit talking of other restaurants and people.
Marco acts more like someone who reached the top, has nothing else to prove, so he just presents himself humbly and works on simpler things. Like a philosopher who perfected his art and chose to retire. Gordon is more of the type where he'll never stop pushing his own limitations and boundaries even if he already has 'everything" he's ever wanted to accomplish. Like a martial artist who's never content sitting still.
That last story puts Gordon in a different light. To do something like that to someone you called a friend and owe everything to is insane... but to admit to it years later is even crazier
The way he flaunts it and speaks of it as "revenge" seems to me he really absolutely hated his damn guts, not sure what Marco did to piss him off that much before though. I doubt Gordon would be that petty to do it solely for jealousy.
Also Marco has more considerations toward common people like us(he made most of his recipe way cheaper and less exotic ingredient)who can't bought expensive and luxurious ingredients compared to Gordon,i remembered he added expensive ingredients like caviar and truffle in some segment involving small restaurant,like they can get supplier for that stuff
I like Marcos presence and humbleness, when I’ve watched him in shows he doesn’t play up to the cameras cause he probably doesn’t care what people think of him. All that matters is the cooking and I can really appreciate the honesty of it all. Gordon’s shows are fine, he’s got the charisma but it can be a bit over the top and repetitive. But you can definitely see who Gordon has modelled himself around.
You can't blame him for dialing it up to 11 for the camera. He's trying to appeal to a different type of audience, an American audience mostly, so he's gotta play the part. You can't deny Americans love a bit of a show and a trainwreck, it's noticeable when you compare the American version of Kitchen Nightmares with the British one.
To be honest seeing how Gordon was playing the media constantly in Boiling point and how he said he faked the stolen book to blame Marco, he probably did bring the media to Marco's wedding just to further himself and to screw over Marco. At least Marco seems to have some integrity.

Marco is like a rock star from the late 60s or early 90s, he just doesn't give a toss about what people think as long as he can do what he wants to do and be good at it. Now that he's older he's just a chill dude with a more philosophical take on his art and that's what makes him a treat to watch. Gordon is one of the best too but he's more of a celebrity about it. He fits the mold of the 80s and 21st century pop stars who are loud and flashy. He wants the glamor, and fame, and everything else that comes with it so he plays it up to the media. His style is very eye-catching and marketable but exhausting to watch and can get repetitive to certain people. like me. And with that celebrity attitude comes the totem pole mindset, the crap he pulled against Marco may be normal in the cutthroat world of any industry but still.

Gordon Ramsay would make the greatest meal you've ever eaten with 100 techniques to perfectly flavour the dish. Marco will make something very simple, that is done with such finesse that it will always hit the spot. Just compare how they make scrambled eggs.

After I submit my resume to a place not restaurant business I will get dressed up and walk into the business and say "Hey I just submitted my application." Introduce myself and shake the receptionist hand. It's gotten me a job every time.

The industry is so over worked and so under paid that passion only exists in like 10% of chefs. The modernisations of chain restaurants, combined with the working conditions means most chefs are just people that had no other choice. When marco and gordon started, it was at least a respectable profession. Now it truly has to be your life dedication else you’ll sit at 30k doing 56 hours a week
I work for a catering company, and one time we got hired to work production for an episode of Hell’s Kitchen. so while the chefs were all cooking on the show and trying to demonstrate how talented they were, I was backstage preparing all the food for the crew and for the on-air chefs to eat in between filming. It was terrifying!!!

Marco used to be my idol and the reason I cook. But I made the mistake of meeting him when I was about 14. Had a family meal at one of his restaurants and my mum pointed him out to me, just watching tv. I went to go talk to him and ask him for tips and he put his hand in my face, shook his head and walked off without saying a word. I was 14, and short for a 14 year old, so for all he knew I was a child. Never meet your heroes, people.

Marco Pierre White married a woman for 2 years, got divorced. Married a second woman, started cheating on her immediately after the wedding, got divorced. He then married the woman he cheated with, and after she popped out 3 kids, he got caught cheating on her with someone else, and they too got divorced. Gordon Ramsay has only been married once, to the same woman for nearly 30 years. They have 6 kids, and he loves them to death and takes good care of all of them. If you want me to start casting judgements on the morality of men, I always start with their home and personal lives. Pierre was well known for temper tantrums, assaulting his employees and customers, and throwing people out of his restaurant in the most diva-ish manner possible. Gordon is a diva too, but it's played up more for TV while Marco was genuinely worse than that. He even got canceled before being canceled was a thing because he used racial slurs about people. He resented Gordon for being more successful than him in the same way that Kat Williams just can't shut up about Kevin Hart or let it go that he is more successful, rich, and well liked of the two of them. It's the exact same situation. If I had to pick which one I thought was the better human being, it would be Ramsay.

There was a woman who claimed she used to be his mistress without any proof at all and used these stories to boost her fame and career. Gordon denied the whole thing and there is zero evidence it happened. I’m sorry but the story about Gordon framing Marco in the set up heist/theft is actually super messed up, conniving and quite sociopathic. It’s completely changed my opinion on him.
The funny thing about the crying incident was that on that same day, Marco had secured a position for Gordon at Le Gavroche to work under his old mentor, Albert Roux. Marco recalls being confused about Gordon thinking he was going to get fired, when in fact, he was about to get sent to one of England's most famous and most influential French restaurants.
I've seen Gordon saying in an interview that when he asked Marco that he wants to go and work at Le Gavroche, Marco said he will speak with Albert Roux about it. He then came back to him and said he spoke with Albert who said that there's a waiting list and Gordon had to wait one year before he could go there. Once he started working at Le Gavroche he found out that there was no waiting list 😀

I feel like this whole anti tv chef and anti publicity thing feels like an act. Like if you give so little fucks about Michelin Stars, why go through the effort of handing them back? Him handing them back is just as much an attempt for validity as showing one off is. It's like the kid at school who went out of their way to avoid the popular clothes and tv shows. If he really didn't give a fuck, he wouldn't be going out doing interviews saying so
I worked in kitchens from a kitchen porter at 17 all the way up to a sous chef at 22. Was an apprentice under a TV chef called Hugh Fearnley Whittingsall, the chef who ran river cottage. Cooking is a passion, you have to love and treat every dish as if you’re serving it to a king. Kitchens are such a cut throat place. If you’re getting weeded with 150-200 people to feed in a 3 hour evening service on a Saturday night. Abuse, stress and burnout are extremely common, especially when working in a high pressure environment. I’ve missed family events, birthdays, almost missed a family funeral, holidays, weekends and evenings. Was working 14 hours days 5 days in a row, when the head chef walked out, was me a 19 year old sous chef and the manager trying to keep the rota, bar and food orders in tact. Still love cooking, and I have nothing but respect for anyone who works in catering from the Kitchen Porters, Commis Chefs, Chef du Partie, Sous chefs, Head chefs, executive chefs and all the front of house staff. They do an amazing job!

Gordon's dad was supposedly abusive, Marco too. If you watch Gordon's first appearance on tv in the UK documentary about his restaurant, Boiling Point, you can see how it rubbed off. The rudest chef on tv was how he was covered in the media. Without the music in comparison to his later tv shows it's definitely more serious in tone. Harsh language however can be very common in the business, and after the more contrived later shows he has clearly mellowed out
Lots of people don’t know Gordon was an athlete he played football(soccer) for years and was going to pro but he got hurt while in the minors waiting to be called up by the time he healed up his brother was dealing with addiction and he needed money immediately to help save his brother. Working in the kitchen was more than he was making in the minors and it came faster. As a result, Gordon becoming a media personality makes as athletes do media all the time. Athletes are often even given media training upon signing(rare in the USA, even though it shouldn’t be)
This is called adapting to the current times, that's exactly what Gordon did, he adapted in the ever-changing technology of media and fame into his own work like adding garnish to your dish and it worked out because it is what everyone began consuming at the and in the future.
As someone who did martial arts i can relate to what marco said about him being on television to much. For me its like. Going to karate earning your black belt after 15 years. And all of a sudden you got a blackbelt your famous and you dont come to the dojo as often anymore but after years of doing that you still show off your blackbelt.(in martial arts that is a disgrace to tour dojo) because you dint earn it 1 time its a rank you need to maintain. So i get where marco is coming from.

If you can't see who is in the wrong here, you definitely don't forgive easily. Gordon had a chip on his shoulder his entire life over one of the best chef's in the world, making him one of the best chef's in the world. Seek to learn to forgive and you can easily do what both did, but better. They could have easily collaborated later on and learned together. The only thing you hold onto without forgiveness is arrogance in your own ego.

I love your objective nature and willingness to see the problem from both sides perspective. So many videos on celebrities and celebrity relationships try to stick to one side of thinking and it’s very refreshing to hear arguments and understanding for each side.
I think some of the greatest minds and greatest artists who have spent their lives dedicated to the art over life are doomed to suffer the reprocussions. Marco dedicated his life to cooking. Gordon found the balance and optimized it for his benefit. I think there will always be a difference between a Senna and Hamilton, a Kobe. and Lebron or a Messi and Ronaldo, each great in their own respect, but the latter of each just made sure to squeeze every bit of allowance possible to get the most of the opportunity....And you cant blame them for it. Sometimes you give everything to the art and there's little left to give to everything else. Sometimes you recognize you have come close to mastering the art but you need to take care of everything outside the art. Marco is one of the greatest, I think he gave everything he had to cooking and life faded by because that was the most important thing to him. Gordon understood that cooking was everything, but he reached a point where it wasn't anymore. He wanted to built a brand and optimize the opportunity he had been given to ensure him and his family for generations were set. Some purists like Marco might have an issue with that, but its not better, nor worse. Just a different path. I will always respect a great artist, athlete or individual who gives everything to their craft. But I don't hold it against those who take their opportunity to set themselves and their families up for generations to come.
Gordon has zero integrity. To do what he did to Marco when he stole that appointment book then had the audacity to say Marco stole it...that is about the *lowest* anyone can stoop. Gordon may have made millions & is "successful," but in doing that he proved he has zero morals & is a scumbucket. A zebra never loses their stripes....meaning Gordon would do something like that again if he thought he needed to.
One thing about chef white, is his extreme dedication, discipline in his profession. AND his ability to keep grounded and indifferent to anything other than excellence in his work.
I fell in love with Gordan as a child . What made the difference for me was when he started traveling and going on adventures while learning new ways how to cook. It felt like a vlog or stream at times .
GORDON is a G and MARCO IS TOO. They are the Sith of chefs. And Gordon definitely slayed his master and became superior. Marco is a shadow now, and still the greatest in modern history. He groomed Gordon to succeed him. His anger towards him and silence was in fact a sign of respect
I see it as two fine chefs with different MO's. One is content with simply being the badass he is in his own right, no f's given while the other makes it his media personification. He's barely above an average chef in a random cafeteria in eastern Europe, while Marco is a world class chef that refused to play the game. Literally every single video Gordon makes about food is wrong. He gets ingredients wrong, cooking wrong, cookware wrong, just everything is wrong, and the internet is roasting him for it, lol. He's a pretender to be a great chef, with no actual spirit, experience, or will to be one. It's all about marketing. The other "great" chef from UK got grilled to the ground, and Gordon is no different. He learned the basics, he got the character to be entertaining in front of camera, and he rolled with it, completely ignoring the craft. Well, financially he succeeded, but otherwise..? He's always gonna be a laughing stock amongst ACTUAL chefs.

You can definitely tell that both Marco and Gordon were brash and egotystical back then. You had to be if you wanted to make it in this industry. So the two of them having a falling out seems almost like an inevitability. You can certainly feel how age has whethered the two of them in different ways. Marco is now much more calm and at ease compared to his younger days. And Gordon's passion and ambition has been tempered into a more nurtured love and humility to the craft.

I like Marcos presence and humbleness, when I’ve watched him in shows he doesn’t play up to the cameras cause he probably doesn’t care what people think of him. All that matters is the cooking and I can really appreciate the honesty of it all. Gordon’s shows are fine, he’s got the charisma but it can be a bit over the top and repetitive. But you can definitely see who Gordon has modelled himself around.
You can't blame him for dialing it up to 11 for the camera. He's trying to appeal to a different type of audience, an American audience mostly, so he's gotta play the part. You can't deny Americans love a bit of a show and a trainwreck, it's noticeable when you compare the American version of Kitchen Nightmares with the British one.

Marco is like a rock star from the late 60s or early 90s, he just doesn't give a toss about what people think as long as he can do what he wants to do and be good at it. Gordon is one of the best too but he's more of a celebrity about it. He fits the mold of the 80s and 21st century pop stars who are loud and flashy. The industry is so over worked and so under paid that passion only exists in like 10% of chefs. The modernisations of chain restaurants, combined with the working conditions means most chefs are just people that had no other choice. When marco and gordon started, it was at least a respectable profession. Now it truly has to be your life dedication else you’ll sit at 30k doing 56 hours a week

I work for a catering company, and one time we got hired to work production for an episode of Hell’s Kitchen. so while the chefs were all cooking on the show and trying to demonstrate how talented they were, I was backstage preparing all the food for the crew and for the on-air chefs to eat in between filming. It was terrifying!!!

Marco used to be my idol and the reason I cook. But I made the mistake of meeting him when I was about 14. Had a family meal at one of his restaurants and my mum pointed him out to me, just watching tv. I went to go talk to him and ask him for tips and he put his hand in my face, shook his head and walked off without saying a word. I was 14, and short for a 14 year old, so for all he knew I was a child.

Marco Pierre White married a woman for 2 years, got divorced. Married a second woman, started cheating on her immediately after the wedding, got divorced. He then married the woman he cheated with, and after she popped out 3 kids, he got caught cheating on her with someone else, and they too got divorced.
Gordon Ramsay has only been married once, to the same woman for nearly 30 years. They have 6 kids, and he loves them to death and takes good care of all of them.
If you want me to start casting judgements on the morality of men, I always start with their home and personal lives. Pierre was well known for temper tantrums, assaulting his employees and customers, and throwing people out of his restaurant in the most diva-ish manner possible. Gordon is a diva too, but it's played up more for TV while Marco was genuinely worse than that. He even got canceled before being canceled was a thing because he used racial slurs about people. He resented Gordon for being more successful than him in the same way that Kat Williams just can't shut up about Kevin Hart or let it go that he is more successful, rich, and well liked of the two of them. It's the exact same situation.
If I had to pick which one I thought was the better human being, it would be Ramsay.

And that is quite frankly sad and I feel sorry for you.

The funny thing about the crying incident was that on that same day, Marco had secured a position for Gordon at Le Gavroche to work under his old mentor, Albert Roux. Marco recalls being confused about Gordon thinking he was going to get fired, when in fact, he was about to get sent to one of England's most famous and most influential French restaurants.
I've seen Gordon saying in an interview that when he asked Marco that he wants to go and work at Le Gavroche, Marco said he will speak with Albert Roux about it. He then came back to him and said he spoke with Albert who said that there's a waiting list and Gordon had to wait one year before he could go there. Once he started working at Le Gavroche he found out that there was no waiting list 😀

one other reason he returned the Michelin stars is because he knows people will still regard him as a Michelin class chef, with or without the star, because it had already happened, so he doesn't actually lose the stars.

I worked in kitchens from a kitchen porter at 17 all the way up to a sous chef at 22. Was an apprentice under a TV chef called Hugh Fearnley Whittingsall, the chef who ran river cottage. Cooking is a passion, you have to love and treat every dish as if you’re serving it to a king. Kitchens are such a cut throat place. If you’re getting weeded with 150-200 people to feed in a 3 hour evening service on a Saturday night. Abuse, stress and burnout are extremely common, especially when working in a high pressure environment. I’ve missed family events, birthdays, almost missed a family funeral, holidays, weekends and evenings. Was working 14 hours days 5 days in a row, when the head chef walked out, was me a 19 year old sous chef and the manager trying to keep the rota, bar and food orders in tact. Still love cooking, and I have nothing but respect for anyone who works in catering from the Kitchen Porters, Commis Chefs, Chef du Partie, Sous chefs, Head chefs, executive chefs and all the front of house staff. They do an amazing job!

The rudest chef on tv was how he was covered in the media. Without the music in comparison to his later tv shows it's definitely more serious in tone. Harsh language however can be very common in the business, and after the more contrived later shows he has clearly mellowed out
Lots of people don’t know Gordon was an athlete he played football(soccer) for years and was going to pro but he got hurt while in the minors waiting to be called up by the time he healed up his brother was dealing with addiction and he needed money immediately to help save his brother. Working in the kitchen was more than he was making in the minors and it came faster. As a result, Gordon becoming a media personality makes as athletes do media all the time. Athletes are often even given media training upon signing(rare in the USA, even though it shouldn’t be)

As someone who did martial arts i can relate to what marco said about him being on television to much. For me its like. Going to karate earning your black belt after 15 years. I love your objective nature and willingness to see the problem from both sides perspective. So many videos on celebrities and celebrity relationships try to stick to one side of thinking and it’s very refreshing to hear arguments and understanding for each side.

I think some of the greatest minds and greatest artists who have spent their lives dedicated to the art over life are doomed to suffer the reprocussions. Marco dedicated his life to cooking. Gordon found the balance and optimized it for his benefit. I think there will always be a difference between a Senna and Hamilton, a Kobe. and Lebron or a Messi and Ronaldo, each great in their own respect, but the latter of each just made sure to squeeze every bit of allowance possible to get the most of the opportunity....And you cant blame them for it. Sometimes you give everything to the art and there's little left to give to everything else. Sometimes you recognize you have come close to mastering the art but you need to take care of everything outside the art. Marco is one of the greatest, I think he gave everything he had to cooking and life faded by because that was the most important thing to him. Gordon understood that cooking was everything, but he reached a point where it wasn't anymore. He wanted to built a brand and optimize the opportunity he had been given to ensure him and his family for generations were set. Some purists like Marco might have an issue with that, but its not better, nor worse. Just a different path. I will always respect a great artist, athlete or individual who gives everything to their craft. But I don't hold it against those who take their opportunity to set themselves and their families up for generations to come.
Gordon has zero integrity. To do what he did to Marco when he stole that appointment book then had the audacity to say Marco stole it...that is about the *lowest* anyone can stoop. Gordon may have made millions & is "successful," but in doing that he proved he has zero morals & is a scumbucket. A zebra never loses their stripes....meaning Gordon would do something like that again if he thought he needed to.

I fell in love with Gordan as a child . What made the difference for me was when he started traveling and going on adventures while learning new ways how to cook. It felt like a vlog or stream at times .

GORDON is a G and MARCO IS TOO. They are the Sith of chefs. And Gordon definitely slayed his master and became superior. Marco is a shadow now, and still the greatest in modern history. He groomed Gordon to succeed him. His anger towards him and silence was in fact a sign of respect
I see it as two fine chefs with different MO's. One is content with simply being the badass he is in his own right, no f's given while the other makes it his media personification. While both are still badasses, I'm always gonna favor the original one who doesn't need to literally make a show of it. Gordon learned from the master.
