  • Learn to take incoming force into the Ming Men point to absorb and redirect. Also to use this technique when you are doing solo Tai Chi and Qigong (Chi Kung) to enhance your Tai Chi practice and Tai Chi posture.
The video shows Susan Thompson Tai Chi demonstrating and explaining key principles of tai chi and qi gong practice using a partner in a simple push hands (Tuishou) exercise. The main focuses are:
    1. Proper body mechanics - Opening the joints, keeping an integrated posture with the knees and elbows aligned, allowing the spine/back to function as one unit focused on keeping the Ming Men (lower back) area open and aligned.
    2. Mastering the Ming Men - The critical skill is keeping the Ming Men open and not allowing it to close or become disconnected from the body, as this provides structural integrity and rootedness.
    3. Expressing energy from the open Ming Men - Rather than using muscle, the demonstrations show expressing outward energy from an open and aligned Ming Men through the limbs in a controlled manner for effortless movement.
    4. Receiving/Following energy into the open Ming Men - For techniques like "Bicycle Wheel", the key principle is following incoming energy/pressure into the open Ming Men area from the partner, without retracting or closing off the Ming Men.
Susan Thompson Tai Chi emphasizes imagination and feeling the principles, beyond just the physical movements. Overall, it highlights crucial internal skills in tai chi of integration, rooting, energy expression, and adhering - which allow effortless movement when applied properly.
