    I think the very first thing to do with ANY piece of equipment you want to work on is to CLEAN it first. Then you don't have to contend with all kinds of dirt and debris falling in to areas it doesn't belong. COMMON SENSE!!!!

    Martin, my man! This video and part two are super helpful! I was struggling to get the handle assembly off when I stumbled across this series. Brilliant! Unfortunately you stop short of getting to the piston which is where I need to dive in. Regardless, thank you for the videos!

    Can confirm the piston and cylinders knackered. When I took the flywheel off I held the chainsaw and gave the shaft threat a knock, it cam straight off. I think coz you knocked in a surface, the surface absorbed the shock. I stripped my ms170 in less than half hour thanks to this video. Thanks 👍

    Good video Martin wish you had put this on a couple of months earlier had the same saw with the same problem but did not realise what had to come of to get to the oiler part,I got as far as taking the handle bar of and then lost the confidence to go any further but looks like I was nearly there,ended up selling it on eBay but got a good price for it,that handle bar cradle was a bugger to put back on again,hope you get yours sorted,all the best.

    If you have a impact wrench the flywheel nut will fly off without the need to put anything inside the top of the piston, the flywheel after removing the nut takes just one tap at the side to release it

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, there are a few ways to do that but not everyone has an impact wrench so this is a simple option.

    • @harrier331

      It never will work as all you are doing is ramming the crankshaft and risking damage, hitting the nut will put no force on the flywheel and therefore will not remove it, you have to support the flywheel and then hit it, in essence you need to do exactly what the puller is doing, holding the flywheel in place and pushing the spindle/nut.

    I got one of these Iv had stored away for a couple of years. Iv finally got it out to restore. Something was jamming when I got it, it wouldn't start but would fire with a little 2stroke oil in the cylinder so I'm wondering if the Pistons a goner. I want to do a complete strip down and bring it back to life.

    • @retrorestore

      Just tip it out Matt and refill with the right mix. take the plug out and pull it over until you see fresh fuel mix in the carb primer bulb and refit the plug. It'll soon flush through.
