    Hey Pete, I have a piano with Midi In/Out. I know the Midi Out is working 100%, never used Midi In yet so I can't say for sure but I assume it also works. Questions:
    1) Can I connect such a cable to only the piano's midi out, essentially only connecting one of the midi ends?
    2) Does the USB light on yours light up already when you only have the USB connected but not the midi? Reason I'm asking is because I got a similar (but different brand) cable yesterday simply can't get it to work at all. None of the LEDs are lighting up at all. I tried different USB ports on my PC already and also on my tablet.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there. Yes, you can totally use for just MIDI out from a keyboard. That’s how I use mine.
      And the issue with it not working? I’ve found that cheaper cables are super unreliable which is why I recommend the Roland/Edirol version. It’s a little more expensive but everyone I’ve recommended it to has had success.

      Hey there. GOod question Chuck? I haven't actually used MIDI back from software to a keyboard personally as none of my keyboards have supported this. But this adapter definitely supports MIDI in and out so if the hardware supports it, then it should work.

      @@PeteJohnsMusic Just wanted to let you know I was able to take the midi to usb cable i picked up, from my ap-40 into my duet by apogee, control the sounds using garage band, then send the signal out of the duet, using the 1/4" jacks into the 1/4" jack inputs on the back of the keyboard! I now have any sound I'd ever want or imagine! Cheers

    I tried to connect my old Yamaha keyboard (with old circular midi connections) to my PC via USB, after trying virtually everything I could couldnt get it to work. LED flicker on boot, but otherwise no response. Years ago it worked fine. After much Googling I discovered someone with same problem, and they claimed that the problem was using modern USB 3 ports that they are not totally backward compatible, and must use USB 2 or lower. :-( Any workarounds for this?

      Hmmmm….. not that I can think of? Maybe try a USB hub or adapter?

      Update got my connection working on USB 3. While looking in device manager with my usb cable plugged into my computer, I notice an unidentified device driver VIEWCON that was disabled. I googled it and discover it might be related to usb cable. Further googleing found someone else with same cable who recommended a different driver. After downloading and installing it now works. My Yamaha piano driver specifys usb 1.1 or 2, so probably why it didnt work. So just a matter of finding a driver for your specific cable, good luck.

      So if you buy cheap cable like I did, finding a driver can be problematic, it used to work fine on old versions of Windows. Buy a Roland or other wll known brand to minimize problems.

    I want to go from a newer midi keyboard that doesn’t have the five pin out only usb B, and go into an older Midi synth rack that only has 5pin In , Any idea?

    Hi Pete, I tried this and it worked well. But after a few weeks the my Mac is not recognizing the MIDI. The small lights do not light up on the MIDI device. Any suggestions as to how to resolve it?

      That’s a weird one that I haven’t come across sorry? Only thing I can think is power? Maybe consider trying a powered USB hub? th-cam.com/video/54XHAYDvHps/w-d-xo.html

    Do you know if this works with a MPC 2000XL to PC/DAW with that cable?

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s a pretty universal cable so I’d say it would work.
