    Multiple wishes here. I want to both play my strat over headphones and get a 2 octave electronic keyboard with a midi port ( and the standard 1/4 in off my strat.)and headphones out. I want to both practice keys and electric guitar over headphones but I want my interface part of my keyboard. Less individual items keeps me from losing things. I can't believe I have managed to keep the same strap,capo,tuner for over a year.

    Solution for connecting Roland Fantom-0 synth to iPad Pro 2021 (USB-C):
    1. Plug bluetooth midi adapter into the MIDI IN and MIDO OUT ports and pair with the iPad.
    2. Plug USB-C to 3.5mm stereo (or mono) cable into L/MONO input port on Fantom-0 using a 3.5mm to 1/4 inch adapter. I used a Hyper++Drive 9 port hub for this with the USB-C cable plugged directly into my iPad Pro.
    3. Go to “Effects Edit” on the Fantom menu and, in the OUTPUTS tab, route both the main and sub to MAIN+SUB.
    4. Still in the Effects Edit menu, ensure AUDIO IN is selected by touching the tab at the bottom. A blue bar will appear at the top of that tab.
    This worked for me anyway.

    Excellent Video. In using a keyboard that has only headphone 1/4 output there is a caution in using the headphone splitter identified in this video. I bought the 1/4 splitter so I could run one line to the interface and one to the headphones. Plugged in the adpater to the keyboard output. Headphones worked fine. Then plugged in the a single unbalanced 1/4 typical guitar cord from the splitter to the interface. Surpirse, your headphones will now be producing sound in only ONE headphone. I then bought another splitter. Same issue. It isn't the splitter. It is the cable you run from the splitter to the interface. I then bought a balanced 1/4 phono cable. Now I have stereo in the headpones and the interface is working as always. Great Midi signal. If you use a 3.5 headphone output I do not know if that will have the same problem. 1/4 balanced cables are more money and always have a second ring on the plug that alerts you that you are using a stereo cable. This series is wonderful for GB and electronic music recording in general. I learned quite a bit over the year from it. The MIDI and Audio connection video is priceless for getting both MIDI and Audio from my keyboard into GB.

    I have a Roland GO:Piano digital piano connected to my Windows 10 PC. The keyboard is recognized by a variety of piano teaching software, so the connection is fine. I'd like a simple program that displays a Piano keyboard and highlights the keys I'm playing, in a window on the PC. I would then show that window on a ZOOM video conference for teaching purposes. I've found lots of advanced software for composing and authoring, but not for just displaying the keyboard.

    I'm using Linux and have a DIN to USB cable converter. I learned the hard way.. Just like you said: Don't buy a cheap cable converter! So I finally purchased a Mio cable converter at Guitar Center, here in the US. It took hours of finding the right virtual patch cord configurations with the software that the Yoshimi MIDI application needed to communicate with. Qsynth and Qjack did the trick. (I think it was turning off either Qjack, Qsynth, or both before Yoshimi gave any audio sounds - Even after I stumbled across the right virtual patch configuaration) Now I have to figure out how to get some piano samples. :(

    Thank you so much for your very helpful, thought through and nicely presented content! I absolutely enjoy watching your videos.
    Is there a difference between the quality of these 2 options:
    - USB connection from keyboard to phone/computer
    - keyboard - interface - phone/computer
    The sound of my recordings from keyboard to my phone (in garageband) via USB cable sounds terrible

    I have a question about hooking up multiple midi devices at the same time. Ex. 1. OUT on device 1 goes to IN on device two. OUT on device 2 goes to IN on device 1. Everything works fine.
    Ex 2. Now I want to connect three keyboards on the same chain. Do I just use OUT 1 to IN 2, then OUT 2 to IN 3, then back up the chain? Or do I chain devices 1 & 2 as indicated above and then use midi thru from device 1 or 2 to control device 3? I have successfully connected two Roland keyboards using the first as a controller for the second (as I described in the first example). What midi connects to I make to access keyboard 3 (or sound module like Integra 7), and from which keyboard? To keep it simple I have omitted using an interface or computer for this question.
    Ex 3. (Question) What would I use midi thru for and how?
    Thank you for your response.

    I play e-drums and can apply this so that I can record at home for the first time. I have a roland kit in storage, i'm going to experiment with this as I found that my guitar hero drums controller has a midi out port.
    It seems i will need to buy a midi interface, what I understand is that it will separate/amplify the signals before it goes into the pc.
    Thanks for the video.

    Would you consider making a video on how to set up Bluetooth keyboard for recording in logic?
    I have the Roland Go piano (with Alexa). I want to record the piano, but I keep hooking the piano up as a speaker instead of an input. I don't see that option so I'm not sure if it isn't capable, or if I'm making a mistake somehow :/ LOVE YOUR CHANNEL BTW! :)

    • @MusicRepo
      @MusicRepo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Thanks. I also have a Go Piano, you cannot record the sound of it using the Bluetooth, only make a MIDI connection, or as you have discovered, you can playback computer audio via the piano speakers. The only way to record the sound is via a cable.

    I bought the usb 2.0 to lightening cable and it didn’t work! So I returned it after reading some other comments online saying the same thing. (Said not enough power or something ) so I would go with the second way of usb 2.0 then buying iPhone camera adapter. That works for me now.

    • @MusicRepo
      @MusicRepo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, latency will depend on a number of factors, but mostly on the kind of audio interface you are using and the way you set the buffer size etc. I have a number of ways of making MIDI connections, the one which seems to offer the best low latency is when I use MIDI cables connected to the MIDI i/o in my focusrite interface.

    I have a yamaha mx 6 1 with audio midi cable port ( n old one that looked like it would work) which I connect to my IOS Mac. I press record and in my monitor headphones off the keyboard I. hear nice rich sounds. I then rewind and hit play in Garage band, and my track issues screechy, weak pulses instead of the rich bountiful sounds I heard on input. Help! Love. the clarity of video MIDI explanation btw!

    • @MusicRepo
      @MusicRepo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, it sounds like you are listening to the sound of your keyboard. Do you want to record the sound of it? If you do then you need to watch this. th-cam.com/video/vJD6RL_2yAc/w-d-xo.html
      But if you want to use it as a MIDI controller, then you need to have your headphones plugged into your computer or audio interface (if you are using one) to hear what is going on in Garageband

    Good Video and I’m glad that you had made this video because I’m a Beginner my small set up includes a MacBook Pro 💻, a 4Port Hub a M-Audio MK3 Key Station midi controller that has usb & 1 Midi output & yesterday I had got my Akai MPD218 midi controller that has a USB connection a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd Generation audio interface a pair of Sony MDR-7506 headphones 🎧 a Rod pod mic & a pair of Silver Rokit KRK monitors. After looking at your video I’m going to end up ordering the Roland Um-one mk2 cords specifically to use with a external MIDI Sound Module like The Roland JV-1080 which has the MIDI in & Midi out connection which I will end up buying off of EBay or Guitar 🎸 Center. My question to you is how do I connect my USB midi controller that has a MIDI out with my Akai MPD218 USB Pad midi Controller ? My guess is to connect both to my 4port hub that is connected to my MacBook Pro 💻 Mid 2012 that’s my guess but I need to know how I can get the sounds loaded into my keyboard 🎹 controller & my Akai MPD218 USB midi Pad controller? Cause I’m thinking about starting out with Ableton live lite since it comes free with both of my midi controllers & not only that I don’t want to use Akai’s MPC Beats Software that comes with their controller simply because Ableton is the better & easier program to learn do you agree? Any advice will be appreciated. Marc

    What if my keyboard only has two midi out ports? (For example the Fatar studio900) can i still use the midi to usb cable?

    Hi there! your tutorials are awesome. I bought the Roland UM-ONE MK2. I connected the Midi In to Midi Out on my keyboard. I followed the connection diagram on your article. I downloaded the driver previously. I open Chordie App and it doesn't receive any input from my keyboard. I selected UM-ONE on the Midi Input Menu. I plugged in a midi controller with a usb cable and worked right away with the app. I don't understand what I did wrong

    I just came across your video which is very helpful. I have a Yahama YPT270 which doesn't have either a midi port or usb port. It has an Aux in port. Is there a way to set up the keyboard to an iPad to access piano learning apps? Thanks for your feedback.

    I'm a bit confused about those midi cables... Are those the same as regular xlr cables? Thanks

    Will this allow you to send audio to the keyboard, use the keyboard as a speaker?

    So here my question (sorry if it sounds stupid): If I connect my synths to a controler (Roland Fantom), it should be enough for me to connect the MIDI/USB from the controler into the interface and from the interface to the computer (using the DAW as a mixer) and then the audio from all keyboards into the interface to the speakers? I just bought my Fantom and next step is the DAW (most likely Logic). I have never used an interface and I'm afraid my old school ways of doing things (way back in the 80s and 90s) is not how things are done today. So I am a little bit confused.

    Great video. Could you make a video on studio desks? I want one for a 88 Key controller.

    I'm trying to connect my Roland FP-30 to my MacBook Pro via Bluetooth.
    I haven't had all that much success yet - is this because there is no MIDI out on this model of keyboard?
    Sibelius is recognising it as an input device but no information is being sent.
    Your videos are fab!

    How would you connect a keyboard and drum machine to your laptop at the same time?

    I mean I am already recording from focusrite with mics and laptop and it works great, but I would like to test if the sound would be better if I record directly with midi cables instead
