I would get several smaller fish, in a variety of colors so that each is unique and easily identifiable. Watching them grow and being an integral part of them living long healthy lives is one of my favorite aspects of keeping fish.

Yeah don't most species grow comparable to their environment? I guess the only worry would be you wouldn't want them too small for the carp to eat them

@@_Shinasu you get the carp as babies so that you get to watch them grow. It’s the best part!

    🎏An exciting upload Carl!
Personally I’d of started with good quality smaller Koi that were a lot cheaper to buy, not the larger more expensive ones you were looking at.
Your followers would of watched them grow over time and with a pool that large they’d of grown quite fast and we’d of got attached to them.
You could maybe do a competition of the naming of the new fish?
Keep them coming Carl, loving this. 👊

Makes my 1000ltr tank / pond look tinny in comparison, I move last year where I had built a brick pond with a linner so needed a quick option. Someone gave me this 1000ltr plastic & ally framed Liquid container. Will build a newer pond soon hopefully around 5000ltr.

Hi Carl. Love the video. My opinion: Start with a variety of sizes and types. There MUST be some Sanke, Kohaku and Showa in the pond, that is a given. Then maybe a nice Goshiki, Asagi or Ochiba, don't forget to look at Doitsu koi, their scale patterns can be really nice. Lastly, like I said, my opinion, NO GIN RIN or BUTTERFLY koi.

Carl, initial fish size is going to depend a lot on heat, growth with heat can be extraordinary (particularly in summer/Autumn) not to mention the health benefits of stable temperatures. Presumably on this type of build you will also be heating? You’re obviously already hooked, but it’s going to get much worse, with the real quality costing crazy money, for that reason if heated, high quality tosai to grow on, and it’s the right time of year coming up for tosai. Hai good said that the Aka Matsuba was lovely!

    • @fishwithcarl
      @fishwithcarl  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Love that matsuba! Yes I'll be heating it :) And you're right about growing on little tosai! Definitely would love to do that one day, but for now I think I'll go for instant impact with this pond.

One big koi is always preferable to lots of small ones in my opinion for several reasons. Larger fish are less likely to have problems as they are already passed the
"young" stage where problems often frequently. Quality rather than quantity - spend on one good fish rather than lots of small ones. A couple of smaller one to grow on is always fun but heavily stocking a pond as I'm sure you are aware is asking for trouble. Large ones become friendly quicker too !

I was in garden centre other day and went straight to Oase stand for my new pond filter system because I now recognise the brand from your videos.

Hi Carl great video mate been waiting for this pond build video ,love the pond design can’t wait to see the pond when it’s all finished 👍🏻.As for koi in my pond I found I was more interested in the smaller koi which I had purchased, watching them grown and change and just got more enjoyment knowing that I had raised them from 3-4inch koi stay safe can’t wait to see the next stages of the build and keep doing what your doing been watching your videos for years now 👏🏻👍🏻🎣🐟

I’m soooo jealous, it’s gonna look amazing once finished
I live in a flat so the nearest I can come to a pond like that is a few goldfish in the bath 😂
I’m looking forward to the next video and to see Charlie’s reaction to his new luxury home x

Going to look amazing. I got the inspiration for my tiny sleeper pond from your original pond and I love it. If I was building a pond like your new one I’d start with the smallest koi I could find so I watch them grow and develop character. Can’t wait to see it finished. Not jealous at all lol.
