Live in Ashland, Virginia Aug. 1, 2010. Unedited camera file from a Canon 7D. Danielle is a young local banjo player who Bill invited on stage to pick a couple of his tunes.
1972 Was the first time I seen Emerson and Waldron. They were playing fox on the run it was Ruby's Bar and grill in Lorton VA. Boy I truly miss them good old days.
What a class act Bill Emerson is. So many banjo players, it's me me me... He takes it as a part of life to be shared. So much more than music to be learned from Mr. Emerson. That's what I see here anyway.
What a fantastic player Bill is. And always a gentleman . His days with Jimmy Martin and also The Country Gentlemen are truly memorable. Now I recall seeing him here in Toronto years ago . But I can't remember who he was playing with at that concert. Somehow Bill and I had our photo taken together , just Bill and I, with his camera. Years after that I saw him at a Festival. He came over to chat and after awhile he said the most astonishing thing to me. I will never forget how good I felt . He said he remembered me quite well because every time he flipped through his photo album at home - he saw the photo of himself with me. Now if that wouldn't warm a heart I don't know what would. Thank you Bill Emerson
Bill Emerson and JD crow are the best banjo players. In about 1977 I played in a band contest in Kerille Texas at a festival. Bill Emerson, Ricky Scaggs, Jerry Douglas and Peter Rowan formed a band at the last minute to fill in for the week for a band that canceled. Man it was just excellent. Buck White was there too. Wow. Bill emerson plays as good now as ever. Amazing. Ricky also played with the Whites. Wow you tube is amazing to get to see these guys and they are still picking.
Danielle, nice riff that you based your solos on. It was mature and in good taste to play in a blues vein - that way you complemented Bill's picking without imitating him. You added dimension to a master's playing. I'll remember you with a smile every time I take a blues turn on 'Theme Time'.
All these comments about Bill and Danielle just nail it - RIGHT ON! And, yeah, she might remind you of Kristen Scott Benson at first. Who IS the mando picker - nice work - and the guitar man.
What a classy guy Bill Emerson is, helping that young lady shine.

Bluegrass mi música favorita
Fuck yeah!
According to Trischka et al's "Masters of the 5-String Banjo" (1980's)Bill's banjo is a 1930's Gibson TB-4 flathead with a 1970's Ken Kirk neck.
That gal can flat pick, Bill he’s just a legend. Heavy metal bluegrass.
According to Bill, this is a Greg Rich era Gibson RB-4
Think Chris warner built that for Bill
Danielle picks a mean banjo!
What is her name in the black shirt
I'm assuming you mean KERVILLE, TX..just left the V out of it. That was the hometown of my hero, - JIMMIE RODGERS!
