    The ruling actually makes sense to me. She was a minor. There are a lot of things minors can't exactly be found "at fault" for, due to inability to consent. It seems that is the angle here. Kamila isn't responsible for what goes in her body - the adults around her are, because she is under their care as a child. That said, I hope they don't just leave it at this. Even if Kamila isn't "at fault", someone should be held responsible, both for corrupting the sport, and for their negligence & manipulation regarding the health of a child. And obviously even if she isn't at fault, there should still be repercussions.

      I agree with these remarks and replies. I don't think this sanction is inappropriate. Maybe a little lenient perhaps?
      I think a 1 or 2 year ban from international competitions would realistically be more reasonable then four years. Remember, Russian athletes are still competing in domestic competitions--and it has been almost a year already.
      So I think one more additional year might be appropriate. That being said, there should be more serious consequences for the coaching staff. They should not be allowed to compete in international competitions for an extended period of time.
      A few years, but how long that would be I cannot say.
      They, as responsible adults of a minor in their custody. They should get at least as much or more punishment as their athletes. Unfortunately, they probably won't. 😕😓🤢🤐
      That's my opinion.
      Unqualified and conditional. I certainly am not an expert on this matter or situation.

    It's interesting how differently people can view things. KV has already paid hugely for the positive test - she lost her only shot at an individual Olympic Gold Medal at the height of her career. I feel that you're really minimizing what is, in reality, a catastrophic event for her. She's not going to win as a 19 year old, so her one shot at Olympic Gold is gone. Clearly the positive test broke her at the Olympics (she's recovered and skated well since, but for that competition). It's also unlikely she, at 15 and part of a Russian skating program, has much control over what she took. There's no way she could even procure such drugs on her own, so in that sense the rulings make some sense.
    Lastly, here is a quote from Matrix Diagnostics, which is a US drug testing facility: "For some events, drugs are very unlikely to improve performance. One such event is figure skating. ... Figure skating is an event that requires precision, balance and agility. These are not skills that are enhanced with drugs, but through practice and patience. It is for this reason that the drug testing of figure skaters is rare." You can look this up as I can't post links, but the story they tell is that testing in figure skating has been used as a political weapon (by Russia also). This makes me think that these athletes are unfortunately caught up in a corrupt system but all the wrong people are punished. Real justice would investigate anyone with access to these athletes and fine or imprison them. I feel bad for KV as she's a fantastic talent and has paid an enormous price for something that probably didn't even give her much of an advantage (and does anyone believe that the other Russian skaters haven't been through the same sort of mill? They just got the timing right on all but one.)

    • @KamilaValieva-fan
      @KamilaValieva-fan ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Finally I found people who has critical thinking in this doping scandal.
      I read the doping testing guidelines as well. Because Kamila was in 1st place in Russion championship,she need do mandatory doping test at both short program and long program. her long program result was voided but the short program result is valid per DAK, which means her doping test of short program is negative and the test after long program is positive.

    • @anomalily
      @anomalily ปีที่แล้ว +23

      I do think that the Russian coaches need to be investigated. But I take umbridge at the suggestion that doping does not give skaters an edge- the particular banned substances that figure skaters have been caught using (TMZ and meladonium) improve *practice* and stamina. They're all drugs that assist with endurance, allowing for longer practice sessions, which we know are the eteri training methods. It's the same style of doping that Lance Armstrong was doing (and never had a positive test for).

      because the 'wrong star' was an obvious winner and multiple record breaker on previous international competitions where she always tested negative. It was obvious who's sample should be manipulated because it was obvious that Kamila will compete in the team event. Only Kamila was sure, nobody knew whether Sasha or Anna will compete along with Kamila in the team event. At the end only Kamila competed in the team and nobody was expecting that. But the manipulators were right, if they had manipulated Sasha's or Anna's sample the team event would had been untouched by that. Also it was sure that Kamila will win the individual event based on previous competitions where Kamila won by huge margins with world records and she was not even perfect. The potential was so high that she will win the individual as well that the sample manipulators were sure that the scandal it's guaranteed.

    CAS dropped the bag the moment they let Kamila skate at the Olympics. She should have never been allowed and disqualified - however clearly choices were made and I am pretty sure money was involved. Now with the ruling I am not too shocked since she was a minor when this unfolded and while YES she should have checked what she puts in her body, she was again a minor. She is under Eteri, who is highly respected and you didn't really question her - you do as your coach tells you. I get westerners will expect more thought from a teenager, but different cultures and again she was a minor. A minor who was put through literal hell. But if you think about it, in this case it is only she who can really rejoice and be proud of herself. Not the US team who will get their gold, not the Japan team. But only Sasha. Why? Because it was on the day of the Russian championships when Kamila violated doping. Many often forget that all of her next tests were clean. Technically, at the Olympics during performances, Kamila was clean. Of course, she shouldn't have been there, but that's not the point. At the Olympics, she technically did it without the help of substances. So tell me, who, if not Sasha, can be proud of such a victory? And if even she cannot do it now, then what about others? No, you don't understand the logic. Imagine an athlete was slipped a PED. The athlete had no knowledge, didn't want it but it clearly helped the athlete and was discovered later. What does that do to the other competitors who lost by a razors margin? So you disqualify the athlete, give the medals to the others, and hold the athlete "not responsible."
    Now RUSADA could do that for Kamila, for no other reason than she was under aged, a "protected person." They (or any other regulatory body) could conclude that, even if she knew, she didn't have the maturity to understand. So then RUSADA could take away her title and still hold her not responsible.

      @@KamilaValieva-fan the differance here is that Jessica was put through a multiple moth long battle because she wore make up while Kamilia would have had to ingest the heart medications she was givin. In comparing the cases I'm more willing and do believe that Jessica is without any wrong doing. Kamilia while she was a minor was obviously in the wrong and should be banned along with her coaching team and that creepy doctor. The ruling from RUSADA makes no sense if Kamilia is acquitted but doped with no fault of her own whos fault is it? The coaches, the parents, the doctors, and the russian system that pumps out little girls to put through hell so that it can get medals?

Is it just going the way of least resistance? But they seem tough though! And leaving the country doesnt seem an option for any of them (odear, Kamila anyway couldnt perform abroad, what a mess...). Or is it some russian-mentality-thing in regard of a secret liking to suffer??

    Kamila has already had her Olympic performance ruined when she fell apart under the stress, already been banned from at least one season of international events because of politics, and now lost her national title. Let's just call it done and move on. At least Sasha finally gets her gold medal, which has been eluding her in all major competitions since turning senior. She was still robbed of the Olympic gold, but I'm hoping she will be competing long enough to avenge that in 2026.

    I can understand holding Valieva not at fault (though … c’mon, that means you should be faulting someone else), but even if she isn’t at fault there should have been consequences beyond a single stripped medal. Precedent in other sports certainly would suggest it, and even more so given Russia’s already sketchy doping status.
    Because I was curious, I took a quick glance at Wikipedia; neither Smolkin nor Davis has any obvious notes re. Jewish ancestry on their pages, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, and I think Israel will permit aliyah with a single grandparent in the right framework. FSR-Jewishness is a complicated thing given how the Soviets cracked down on it for sure. But if that rumour proves true, I’d be interested in seeing what logic is put out.
