Hi guys!! People requested me to cover the Zhenya interview so here is that and more! Full disclosure I haven't seen the full interview because I have yet to find an English translation of the entire interview. However, here I cover the biggest discussion points to come out of it.

Talking about the 16:00 and 'kicked out' translation, seems like it's not accurate. For me seems like Zhenya has meant that she can't longer stay in the team because of her health condition and other circumstances but not that someone kicked her out.

Love that Evgenia never really backs down. She was bullied by her coach that made her skate with injuries, bullied by her country and then bullied again in not having ice in Russia in 2020 forcing her to go back to Eteri. This is a toxic relationship and I’m sad she has to live with that every day.

@@lindatannock applause for twisting Vytautas's comment. Read it again to answer your question. Evgenia's problem was that she did not have real competition when she was training and having her crown "taken" was "unfair". Blaming her coach, thus not even finding 10 seconds to send a text saying "I am leaving". It was all or nothing attitude which was unhealthy. Now finally she came to terms with this, moved on and I am very happy for her.

As of Aug 27 Maya is on the Russian national team while Kostornaia's still just a reserve, so no surprise who get's the sponsor. Maya being "granted" sponsorship could indicate that 1) Maya is doing as expected or better, or 2) Aliona is stuck in her role as a reserve, maybe because she hasn't yet restored her 3A. Honestly though, Evgenia seemed much happier and healthier when she was in Canada. Loved the way she maturely addressed everything and even talked about the importance of mental health.
While I don't mind the girls in Team Tutberidze (I actually like a few of them like Kostornaia and Usacheva), I have a problem with the team. While they may provide "entertainment," I don't like how petty and catty they come across. Like they literally send their mob of fans to hate on anyone that leaves their team (even if they are still kids), which could have lasting impact on them (though I don't think Sergei is as bad, he seems to stay out of drama whereas Eteri and Daniil act really petty and immature).

Trying to put her wins and fame on her while saying Anna wins are about Eteri, as if she irrelevant herself, can you be at least less biased? If Anna wins are about Eteri then so do Aliona’s, or was she training herself when she won Europeans?

I have to say something about the way you keep mentioning that tutberidze went on about how evgenia left without even giving her flowers. it's a cultural thing. flowers are a big deal. when you go to school for the first time on the first day of school there is a huge tradition to give flowers to the teacher. it means a lot. so when tutberidze mentioned that flower thing...that's dirty, that's low, that's manipulative. she's playing with the associations of the flowers and their meaning-ppl will think of the first day of school and all the emotions attached. it's about respect and nostalgia and culture and subsequently patriotism. tutberidze primed the playing field for ppl to call evgenia a traitor and that flower story was what started the whole fire. evgenia left 'without even giving her a bouquet'. it's not about the bouquet. it's about what the bouquet means. evgenia was ungrateful and rude and disrespectful. it's...it's so hard to describe and put into words but i heard that story and immediately thought "oh, that's low of tutberidze" because yes, i agreed with her: evgenia did owe her a bouquet in farewell. it's tradition. especially to the person who appears to have made her career. just wanted to explain my understanding of the seemingly ridiculous preoccupation with the bouquet for tutberidze.

There is no excuse for the way Eteri publicly attacked Evegenia. I can't believe that Evgenia actually went back to Eteri after all of the emotional abuse. The fact that the figure skating gods are rewarding Eteri for for her sociopathic behavior is disturbing. I think that she should have stayed based in Canada and skated in shows there. Maybe after a few years, she could have joined the coaching team at the Cricket Club.

Being honest, those girls are taught terrible technique. If they became a normal weight they struggle. Plus once she'd tasted autonomy in Canada she would have struggled with the more didactic coaching style in Russia. It's like when you move out of home and then move back and you bristle at your parents following up on you because you're used to more freedom. Add onto that the natural need for autonomy growing up.

I wish you could listen to the interview in Russian, there is so much missed in the translation. I found it to be quite immature on Zhenia's side. Especially the part where she blaims the coaches for the silver in the Olympics, they she "trusted them" and that is why she skated Korenina instead of the original FS. It is a known fact that she wasn't able to skate the first program due to its difficulty; also, Eteri tried to make Korenina more difficult before the Games, and Zhenia wasn't able to skate a clean program a single time, so really she did her best at the Games, and it was enough for the silver not gold. Interestingly, there was an interview where Zhenia was saying how she disliked the original program and couldn't really perform it with the proper emotions, while Karenina was something special. She generally spoke a lot about her being the second, the silver and her disappointment a out it. In my opinion, she needs to close the whole thing with a good work with a therapist.

So she got silver in 2018, she started blaming Eteri for her rival's success, it wasn't possible for her to listen to Eteri and trust her decisions again, she left to Canada. There she spoiled her jumps and agreed to programmes, that are no fit for a legend (and Zhenia is a legend and will always be one, just like Alina). All this hate here in Russia was also about the money, because it was unclear who paid for her training in Canada (spoiler: she did, but people were under the impression the she left "free" and effective Eteri for super expensive and ineffective Orcer just to live abroad, so they made her the villain). For people out there it looked like their hero, their main star leaves their country like it's not good enough for her. That hurts.
And it's just so weird that people call Eteri toxic, while she is just really interested in her students' success. And it's also weird that people are inclined to trust only one party to the conflict. Zhenia isn't your average girl, she is a star and a champion and it's only natural that she is not an angel, but a very demanding person with her own ambitions. Don't make her the victim, because she is not. And Eteri is not a bad person, you barely know her (because she is barely out there) and yet you blame her for everything, because it's so convenient for your narrative. She gave her heart to Zhenia, raised her and Zhenia decided go let "the third person" do the talk. Does it really matter if it was media or the Federation?

The only thing Zhenya revealed in this interview is how poorly she was raised. No respect for people who brought her to the worldwide fame thanks to which now she has a lifelong career. All the doors are open to her now due to all the success she got while with Tutberidze. That got her to the Olympics. She was so spoiled with her successes one after the other, with the fact that Eteri loved her so, sometimes it seemed like even more than her own daughter, it was undeniable. And then little princess didn’t get the grand prize. God’s Devine providence. I was Evgenia’s fan but I never expected her to stoop so low and for many years to come lie, spew venom and point fingers at anyone but herself. She really showed her true colors. It’s funny how in this group everyone is hating on the coach instead of picking up on how many lies Evgenia said, her story constantly changing. But if that’s what you’re into keep going. To each it’s own.
