His parents were born in Russia and they're Russians although they lived in Uzbekistan. He may identify himself an American, which is a somewhat experimental "nation", but he's still a Russian by origin and nation. The very foundation of the US started by a bloody Genocide of Indigenous People of the New World and later artificially transformed into a "nation".
