    The cans need a bit more weight in them so they dont "jump" while getting pulled. They "stutter" cuz each pull pulled them farther than the fishing line was pulling it so its kinda jumping

      and cooking oil on the bottom of the cans.

    • @NiallMacpherson
      @NiallMacpherson 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Stutter is due to friction (solved with oil/flour/graphite), lack of inertia (weight) and I am sure the elasticity of the fishing line. Just my 2 cents. :-)

  • @chrismixlewis
    @chrismixlewis 4 ปีที่แล้ว +107

    FYI, physics major here- the stutter was due to not enough tension in the string to overcome the frictional force in the table. So extra, consistent force (like when you pushed it) overcomes it and it’s smooth. You could also have used a layer of cloth or something to reduce the coefficient of friction between the cans and the table, which would have lowered the force you need to use to overcome the force of friction. Interesting test!

    DUDE...Daniel. You nailed it! Nice work and engineering to show us how to get similar shots without super crazy equipment, goes to show a little hard work and thinking can take you further than most gear ever can! Thanks for sharing, keep it up!

    Awesome result!
    My suspicion as to why the cans were "stuttering" is that the fishing line was stretching. The lines would stretch, then once it reached the point where the stretch pulled the can's weight, the cans would move, the line would contract, and then the cycle would happen all over again.
    The fast motion was a good way to get around that.

    Looks so dope!😍🔥 maybe you could at some glycerin to the cans to give the feel of a fresh drink😉

    My suggestion would be instead of using the empty cans to weigh the cans down by filling them with some sand or so.
    This would create some slight resistance and smooth out the movements
