The green auras represent non-human life. When he picked the flower from the ground he ripped it, so the flower died and it vanished from his sight. You guys are amazing, lots of love and best wishes from Spain!

So then what is that other white shape at 4:51? Clearly one is Jukai and the green is the wood he's carrying but it looks like there's another person there. But when they cut away from Hyakkimaru's sight, no one is there except for Jukai.

I feel bad for Hyakkimaru's little brother, it's not his fault yet his mother doesn't seem to give as much affection to him as the dad, just stands with a forced smile.
Yes, it's ironic that he's doomed to grow up with a corrupted heart whereas the abandoned child Hyakkimaru remains pure.
His mom does love him, it's him that seems kinda spoiled, they even show him fighting hyakkimaru in the opening so prolly he is as bad as his father
My guess is that his lil bro is like his father and he's like his mother, maybe even physically

Dororo is just amazing storytelling with compelling characters. Imagine someone experiencing all these emotions and feelings that you have never felt before for the first time! Wow

I cry three time during the episode ~ 1)when hyakimaru baby suck junkai finger because he thirst
2) when the kid that junkai kill his father and raised him left him and throw away his prosthetic leg
3) when junkai send off hyakimaru to travel and hyakimaru touch junkai face and junkai hugged him very dearly ~>>> Even Hyakimaru cannot speak, hear, or see anything... .. He literally know what is the feelings of being love by someone 💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

12:00 The flower is a symbolic element in the show. When you pick a flower, what happens? It dies or starts to die. When something dies, it's soul leaves it. When Hyakkimaru picked the flower, what he saw was the soul leaving it, or dissipate. Wood seems to be an exception as it seems wood retains it's soul, or is given a new one when people create something from it.
Remember in ep when Hyakki is fishing? After Dororo cooks the fish, he was spooked when Dororo gave one to him probably because the fish hadn't died yet/lost its soul when he stabbed it, but by the time Dororo finished cooking it, the fish was no longer a living thing and was an object (hyakki cannot feel so it wasn't the heat coming off the fish either). He was shocked because he couldn't tell what dororo was shoving into his face. Also why he has to feel the length of the fish right be eating in order to determine where the fish ends. That's my take anyways

The fact that Jukai's grim job caused him great suffering, to the point that he tried taking his life, kind of implies that even back then he wasn't a malignant soul.
He tried to kill himself because someone told him to crucify his wife along with the others. Otherwise he would still be doing his job right now. No sympathy from me. And don't say its in the past. Some criminals who commits murder when they were in their teens, and they are still locked up for life. They deserve to rot in prison. FACT

I think the reason why the guys in the river didn't turn red was because they weren't necessarily evil. You have to remember, Dororo stole from them after they gave her a job and some food. Then to make things worse she literally threw sh*t at them and caused one guy to get injured in the eye. I mean if it were me I'd be pissed as well, but not enough to kill someone tho lol (I literally posted this right before you said it lol) Also Hyakki is the older brother... 😂😂😂
I felt so sorry for Dr. Jukai apprentice. Can you imagine looking up to a person and you think this person is your savior, but he turns out to be the person who caused every sorrow to you. Not only did he killed his father but tortured him, which made him an orphan. Maybe if he wasn't a orphan, he wouldn't end up losing his leg, and Dr jukai gave him a prosthetic leg. That prosthetic leg will always be a reminder to him.

Dororo is so hecking cute. I love the design and attitude of that kid. And Jukai's story is really heartbreaking, you could tell he didn't want to do what he did, but he probably would've been killed himself if he didn't do what his lord told him.
I was wondering if you could ever look into reacting to the anime Jormungand, Black Lagoon or Gangsta. if you haven't seen them already? Jormungand is one of my favourite anime ever, despite not being about fantastical elements which are usually my wheelhouse, so that should probably say something for how great I think it is. These three anime all fall into a similar field, and I think you guys would get a kick out of any and all of them.

This is definitely gonna be the Dark Horse of this Anime Season.
It's like, I've been introducing my friends to watch this Anime and whenever I ask if they've heard of Dororo, they would mistake me as 'Durarara' and I'm like 'come on man'
But yeah, this episode is definitely a very emotional one, it shows how Hyakkimaru interacts with everything around him and more of his past relationship with him and Jukai.
The part where both of them share their farewells made me tear up a little.It's definitely a well-done episode.

I mean it's just a theory but I feel like these fights will be longer and harder because you know... When you think about it, now that he is regaining back his let's say human parts of the body, he can't replace them or fix them. I feel like the more he is human the weaker he is, but it's just my opinion. Anyway, this show is just way to amazing and also love your reaction too! Keep it going!

That's exactly why I'm excited for the fights to come. Now that he has regained his sense of pain, it's going to be interesting to see how he'll cope with damage
I read that the red flame represents all evil and threats, but in that first episode, we don't know what Hyakkimaru saw when he looked towards Dororo's attackers. It could very well be that there was red there, too, but not as large as the demon that was quickly approaching. He probably saw what the greater threat was. And based on that logic, yes, I think Hyakkimaru would have attacked Jukai, if he ever perceived him to be a threat. But you also gotta remember, that in the present time, Hyakkimaru is a total bad-ass and he probably just doesn't feel particularly threatened by other humans. He knows he can kill them all, easily, if he has to. Which also explains why he never attacks the villagers in the 2nd episode when they grabbed him and threw him in the barn. They simply are not a threat to him, unlike the demons and ghouls.
In episode 2 we saw that Hyakkimaru saw those bandits (Dororos attackers) as red. That's probably why he only saved Dororo and basically ignored them being eaten. xD

Nope. Seems I'm wrong. In episode one he at least saw the big guy as white too. It is shown.
Then maybe that part in episode 2 was a mistake. Because they drew the red flame (which looks like that slime monster) eating other red flames.

The woman who went to see her husband was his and that's why he jumped (that's what I read). And back then you didn't really had a choice, if to follow the lord, you belonged to!

Jukai was an evil man. He deserve to be in prison. Pretty sure if your father were horribly tortured by him, you would want him to rot in jail too.

I was very touched when Jukai held the infant, saw him try to feed, and cried while asking "You want to live?"
Well you see there's a thing in Osamu Tezuka's works there's always sin and redemption. Many of his characters have been seeking salvation through dedicating their lives to some righteous work. For example, there was a guy in one of the stories within his genius Phoenix manga who was maniacally carving buddha statues out of wood to atone for the sin of killing the only creature that loved him.

this is one of few flashback episode in anime that I don't mind to watch because this one give more depth to certain character... best kind of flashback..

Humans are described as a white flame... But in the scenes we see with Jukai and the villagers they appear smokey/grey/more black.
Dororo is described as having a "bright white flame" - so maaaybe that how it works. Just speculations

In that scene where Hyakkimaru leaves, I believe he is signing "I love you" to Jukai when he touches his face
Limbs are important because in the afterlife you have what you passed away with. So if you are missing a leg but you get a prosthetic for burial, then you won't be missing that leg in the afterlife. It's the same principle behind burning (fake) money for your ancestors - you are giving them something to use in the afterlife. This is why the monk acknowledges Jukai's actions as an act of mercy. Also this is why self-mutilation (including tattoos and ear piercings) are traditionally seen as a bad thing in East Asian cultures.

I'm wondering about Jukai's motivation. In the service of this Shiba. He said that such a fate meets rebels. It reminds me of one of the newer films about Dracula. Dracula smashed a village there and piled the inhabitants on piles so that other villages would not rebel and that these people would die for no reason. So he did something terrible for the good of the majority. I wonder if in this case it was not the same.

I think green is plants, because flowers are plants and when he took flower it died so it disappeared.
His hands are also green which I think indicates that living plants are used to create those prosthetic.
this animation's original author is Osamu Tezuka that is father of anime in Japan.
He is very famous writer.
