Every character has been referring to Dororo as “boy” actually, multiple times now in the series. But it’s possible they just don’t know, if Dororo really is a girl
Meh. I thought she was a boy. But everyone kept saying so I did not get that "huh, cool didn't know that" feeling cause some people did not read the manga, although I did cause I wanted to compare it.
When I saw Dororo, I immediately knew she was a girl; probably watched too much anime and feudal era Japan to distinguished her gender LMAO. And it's understandable how a lot of people may have gotten it wrong

There were a few interesting translation choices for this episode that I would've done differently. The first is when Dororo meets those random guys in the woods. They yell out "Tsujigiri!" which is translated incorrectly as "the phantom killer." From wikipedia, "Tsujigiri (辻斬り or 辻斬, literally "crossroads killing") is a Japanese term for a practice when a samurai, after receiving a new katana or developing a new fighting style or weapon, tests its effectiveness by attacking a human opponent, usually a random defenseless passer-by, in many cases during nighttime." This is what happened to the little boy from the last episode who lost his arm (can't remember if that came up in your last video). The other one was after Hyakkimaru knocked the sword out of Dororo's hands, Dororo says thanks, then calls him aniki, a term meaning big brother. This is just translated as another thanks and not mentioned, even though he calls him aniki again when his ears come back, this time with a questioning inflection. It's just translated as "what?" I guess that one bugs me a bit more, because tsujigiri isn't something you'd expect English-speaking audiences to know about, but "big brother?" That's an easy translation. This episode also had some small details that I absolutely adore! For example, I read some speculation that the sister's short hair is indicative of her cutting off the length to sell it, which aligns with her backstory. It also serves to make her look more peasant-like and poor, and the detail on her hands at the beginning when she's praying is great too! There is an after-credits scene I don't know if you saw, but it's a quick shot of both paper cranes sitting at the shrine. This is open to interpretation, but I've seen many who thought that meant the sister took her own life at the end and is now "together" with her brother, like the cranes are together. I actually have a suggestion, there are a few arcs in Gintama, and I think it’s good if you can react more episodes one time for certain arcs. I mean let's be serious here, if Hyakkimaru really wanted to kill her he could've done it in an instant, because even though she wields a demon sword she's still a kid. Also the lady called them boys because Dororo is disguised as a boy.
Fun fact: the sword in this episode is loosely based off the legends surrounding swords made by the legendary sword smith muramasa. Muramasa was said to be always teetering on the brink of madness and it's rumored that the swords made by him were evil and cursed. One legend states that once drawn, a muramasa sword cannot be put back in its sheath until its tasted blood. These rumors and legends were so widespread that Tokugawa ieyasu (the shogun at the time) banned all muramasa weapons, likely due to his own and his family's encounters with muramasa weapons

I like this episode a lot. It made no judgement to Hyakkimaru's actions. It created these 2 characters for 1 episode that is compelling and empathetic. At the end the 2 cranes stand side by side by the temple, I think it hinted of the sister living with the death of her brother.

Jormungand is one of my favourite anime, despite it not being fantasy/sci-fi when usually that's my wheelhouse, which speaks to it's quality. Plus I haven't seen a lot of channels do reactions to it, which is a shame. Black Lagoon is a little more popular I think, and I've barely seen anyone react to Gangsta. They're all a similar theme and feel, though Gangsta. has some more fantastical elements.

Also, there's a similar sword in Norse Mythology called Tyrfing, a cursed viking sword that made the wielder go berserk after drawing it from it's scabbard and made you kill the nearest person to you before it can be sheathed again.

I still think the Father is possibly a sympathetic villain in this version. He didn't know they were going after his first born son as payment as he likely thought he was sacrificing his own soul to save the land, though he seemed to accept the consequences as a necessary evil.

if you ask me, tanosuke wasn't done that well here compared to the original. his family is more fleshed out and there's even a glimmer of hope for him at the end, but he uses nihiru to take his own life so it wont harm anyone else.
