Zill family has been an amazing contributor to all the great mangoes grown in Florida....
Paul, thanks for another good video, the amount of work Mr. Zill has done over the years is astounding, we have so many new great mangoes because of their breeding program.
A Caymanian mango maniac, grower and grafter, I glean every tidbit of info available and this is exactly the kind of experienced insights I'm most keen to find. Thank you Gary Zill and Paul for taking the time to share these details with us... one mango nerd to another.❤
Nice to see a fellow Caymanian brethren mango enthusiast. We live in Central Florida now, but love to visit Grand Cayman at least a couple of times a year. Our friends have a 30' Carrie tree that is very productive in Newlands. I'm curious in what varieties you currently have and maybe we can exchange budwood sometime. Have a blessed day!
I had Orange Sherbet for the first time this year it’s amazing and now my favorite Mango. Thanks Zill family
I bought orange essence one more successful
Wait until you try lemon zest and sugar loaf
Gary is freaking awesome
Can’t wait to see what the seedlings from this batch produces. Exciting future
Awesome brother just awesome!
That was a nice, interesting interview. Thanks
Nice video. Thank you sir. ❤
Edward, Lemon Zest, Beverly, Spirit of '76, Maha Chanook, Keitt...those are hard to beat when they are just perfectly ripe.
Aroma is not what I expected to determine new varieties. Great vid!
Been here in port saint lucie almost fifty years i grew a monoembryonic seed around fifteen years ago it gas fruited three years ago.this type of mango changes colors around seven different colors it is a little mango not much fiber but tastes delicious my friend says she's not crazy about mangos but she says it tastes like candy and loves it.i named it Patricia if you are ever in port saint lucie third week in july.would love for you to taste it.i already grafted another tree and will be grafting more.the parent plants have to be old florida varieties my neighbor has the one i received the seed off.
So...P22, Sweet tart, Fruit punch, Orange sherbet, Lemon zest...
I really like Mango it is very good test
Can you shed some light to a mango from India called Langra. This mango is super popular in eastern part of India. Also have you gotten your hands on mangoes imported from India and Pakistan? August is too later for imported mangoes. I highly recommend you try these mangoes next season.
So fascinating! I'm so excited to try out some different mango varieties. 🥭 hard to narrow it down to a few!
Asking anyone: What are your top 3?? And what flavor do you personally look for in a mango?
Witch one king orange sherbert or orange essence
So glad to hear Gary say "SE Asian," and not "Indochinese."
Does Gary Zill sell any small trees? How can I get in touch with him?
Yes his contact info is below the video in the description
Do he grew east Indian & Julie. these are from Jamaica West Indies
No, he did not breed those, both East Indian and Julie is originally from India. A lot of daughters were created from Julie such as Graham, Juliette, Carrie, Angie etc, i haven't seen any children from East Indian. Julie is polyembryonic so most times you plant a Julie seed you will get a different type of mango, they just let these fruit and select the best ones based on taste, disease resistance etc.
l have tasted several mangoes from US India South East Asia, Australia and Europe the best one is in the Philippines from island called Guimaras.
I tried sending you an email but didn't go through
email me again paul@rawlife.com
Did you ask him about that new dwarf rootstock?
We spoke about it in another interview I did with Marcelio from his farm
Got my self nothing but great mango from India and Pakistan call it what you want they are the best of the best graffs suck if they dry or not graff correctly they break off and you won't be sure if they the real deal all guessing games al hackers trying to hustle
Cac?
Not a Zill mango
I've always wondered and now I know. Thank you, Paul.
Is pedigree testing not available for mango? I bet there are some SNP genotyping panels that could validate the genetic integrity of a plant in question. This is useful for IP, mother tree validation (good when involving 3rd parties, shipping, or when producing a lot of tree from limited stock) , and breeding program design. You’d be surprised how inexpensive this tech is.
Dr. Richard Campbell talks about that. They are doing it currently.
