    Peter 'I could do this myself' Jones. Bellend, uses this line so many times. If you could have, you would have. But you didn't.

      I think we all do it sometimes though. We have ideas that we never bother with that become huge. I bought some bitcoin back when it was a novelty at like $50 a coin and got rid of it at like $100 thinking it was some fad only to realise I could have 200k if I hadn't spent it

      Just because someone could do something doesn't mean they will choose to. If they don't try to, they obviously didn't do it, but it doesn't mean they couldn't have.
      For example Peter Jones has chosen not to invest in many businesses on the show, but that doesn't mean he couldn't have.

    • @Benzi514
      @Benzi514 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dragons are not fucked. Neither Hungry House nor Delivery Hero were ever profitable. They put literally billions into this and all they got was a payout on IPO on the hope that some magical day this company would make money.
      Hasn't happen yet. Reminds you of anybody? Twitter? Snapchat? Reddit? Myspace? All failures. Sure you can invest early and then cash out on IPO. But how long are people gonna trust you as an investor if the only thing you finance is shit that sells at the IPO but never actually delivers and dies shortly thereafter? Look at fucking Rocket.

    In December 2016, Just Eat announced that it was acquiring Hungryhouse from Delivery Hero for £200m (with the possibility of a further 40m if the company hits performance targets), subject to regulatory approval.In May 2017, the proposed acquisition was referred to an in-depth phase 2 investigation by the (CMA).On 12 October 2017, CMA gave a preliminary approval for Just Eat to acquire its smaller rival.
    In April 2018, Hungry House announced it would cease trading on 22nd May 2018 and merge with Just Eat

    Deborah was right at the time, in the sense to some extent people do say "I feel like a Chinese" but what she failed to recognise is this was because of the circumstances. There was no way to compare different take cuisines and different outlets in your area. Hungry House changed the circumstances and therefore changed the people's behaviour. Thats true innovation and it went completely over Deborahs head.

    Deborah made a stupid argument here.
    "I fancy a Chinese tonight" OK but from where? Do you have the number and menu memorized? Did a menu come though the door? Did a community of people give you ratings so you know if that Chinese is good or not?
    Also, I can't speak for everyone but I can speak for myself. I only ever go on the internet when I have no idea what to eat

    • @mnb9162
      @mnb9162 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      M Wadud Agree Deborah was so off the mark. But remember this was likely filmed in 2005/2006, the iphone hadn't even been released. Browsing the internet for food options was pretty new back then. If people wanted a pizza they were calling Dominoes back then not using the website. Apps were not even a thing yet.

      @Elvick Humans are complicated, sometimes you want to eat something after seeing it or hearing about it. Other times you know what you want, and you deliberately want to order online for the sake of convenience. It's not always about it being appetising. When that is the situation then whether the apps were out or even the internet people would find ways to order, yellow pages etc.

    @Belayka The Dragons on the Canadian version of The Den are worth Billions, more than any Dragon on the UK version. Also two of the Dragons on the U.S. version(Shark Tank) are from the Canadian version. Ive seen every episode for the UK/Ireland/Canada an the Shark Tank. The only difference between the North American versions and the European versions are the differences in culture. While the Euro versions have a more wheeling an dealing vibe the North Americans are geared towards higher ratings.

    Would like to have seen Uber come on dragons den prior to their success. “When people want a cab they just stick their hand up in the street and hail one”. “You have nothing”.

    Lol like 90% of the food I eat comes with the help of a site like this, Deb sure captured the thought process of customers. It's funny that the whole concept has been working all around the world while they were critisizing it. It's kinda shocking that they have no clue about FMA, the projections were pretty LOL though.

    being the first is very important. Also, this is a business very convenient for customers and lucrative for the service providers.
    On a side note, I find it weird it took so long for UK to provide this service. We've been ordering online in Turkey for eleven years.

    I disagree with noname, Im in the USA and think this is a pretty good idea.
    I would use this service myself. I used to order pizza online through papa john's. Ive moved now and we don't have one near us anymore, I miss the online ordering. Seeing the whole menu, not feeling rushed to order etc. I also think we tended to order more and spend more when we ordered online.

    I am just a competitions to the UK economies from Taiwan, I will answer Peter Jones question by asking him, how fast can you built TH-cam or Facebook.-fast, so what! We win by Speed, Popularity and Volumes, once these are scored, you keep getting better, so together with the service provided with restaurants partner and the volume, it will be hard for competition to launch discount commission as strong or as meaningful to the restaurant clients or ordering customers.

    @nairblin There is no "health tax" in Canada. There is one tax that the costs of health care are taken from. Just like in the States when you pay taxes the government uses that money to pay for things like roads, well its the same in Canada except they also pay for health care. Its not free, its not an illusion either, everyone knows the taxes pay for health care but there is no "health tax."
