Rho missed a reference to Russ in the Ragnar novels, Ragnar encounters the lost company and they tell him that it's been awhile since they've seen him, but that he definitely lives
@@FYAjibber000 Nah its the one after that where Ragnar finds the Lost Company on a world within a shadow dimension created by the thousand sons. They believed Russ was there but realised thier divinations had "told the truth sideways" because the Spear was there, Not Russ himself. The leader of the Lost Company also told Ragnar that before Russ ordered them to pursue the Thousand Sons into the Warp, Russ had promised him that they would one day meet again.
What if the interpretation of the dream, "...fire and pain, a storm that would engulf me..." what if that's Russ succumbing to the curse of the wulfen. The fire and storm being the inner beast and of course pain cause that's gotta hurt. Maybe the spear allowing him to regain his Human side?
My interpretation: Fire and pain= The Heresy itself. The galaxy aflame, the pain of betrayal and loss. The Emperor's dream becoming ashes in his mouth as he is interred upon the Golden Throne. A storm comsuming Russ= His rage, greif, and pain. Becoming disillusioned with the new direction of the Imperium without the direct guidance of the Emperor and Malcador. His regret at not having defeated Horus or having been there on the Vengeful Spirit with his father and brothers slowly consuming him before his mission into the warp. Russ will return, but what will he be when he comes back?
While it's certainly a very valid point that when The Emperor gives his sons prophetic dreams he's there to contextualize things, I personally believe it is at least worth considering the possibility that, depending on when he gave Russ the spear, Russ might have still been a wee bit concussed from losing the contest of strength to The Emperor upon their first meeting and simply doesn't remember the part of the dream where The Emperor explained the important details. Probably unlikely, but the notion of it gave me a giggle anyway
He isn’t dead, GW would never kill off one of its most popular primarchs especially if they didn’t screw up and kill him off decades ago like they did with sanguinius.
GW didn't screw up killing Sanguinious his death and sacrifice makes him that much more beloved. Blood Angels are my favorite legion they are fine not every Primary has to return.
Well we know it was between russ and guilliman to return first. And in pretty sure the fountain of youth he is going after is the eldar God in nurgles possession
A journey into the eye of terror to reunite with Russ would be cool to see. I think the Emperor continuing to ascend in power and piercing the eye of terror to reach his son through the warp to call him back to the fight would also be pretty epic.
In the animal kingdom, wolves and ravens have a symbiotic relationship, ravens scavenging the carcasses left behind from kills and ravens leading wolves to more prey or another carcass. Would be cool to see this translated into a 40k story. Russ and corax hunting in the warp together, with corax leading russ to the ultimate prey. Or some kind of legion team up where they send marines into the warp to find the primarchs
Fire is burning of prospero, and pain he lost a heart and a brother, storm he escaped into the eye and realm of death is morkais realm.so.maybe he is stuck there and is waitinf for the spear to escape or for somebody to use the spear on him to u kock some power
I think the fire and pain represents the jovial, and crass Russ of the pre-Heresy days dying. Fenrisian myth comparing the Emperor with Odin is an important parallel too; just like Odin the Emperor tests his followers in often quizzical and harsh ways, the vision might be something Russ isn't meant to figure out yet, and thats why he hates the spear, he doesnt fear death, he fears the enigma the Spear has come to represent.
Russ actually knows that Primarchs are the product of warpcraft and why the Emperor gave him the spear... Russ simply stabbed HIMSELF with it and it revealed the truth.
Could the burning of nurgles garden be the wolf kings return asha will heal his wounds and he will escort her out of the eye of terror? I thought magnus once hinted that he knew where russ was he chuckled at the thought and said well for russ lets not talk about that
It would be hilarious to see the wolf priests turning themselves in knots to explain how that bit of warpery is that special non-warp warp that is the province of the wolves
The emperors sword and emperors shield is already mooching about the galaxy on opposite sides of the great rift. Would make sense that the emperors spear would join the medley of armaments defending humanity
How would the spear affect a warp phenomenon, if Russ is trapped by one? Also rather odd that if he is so trapped there isn’t an army of daemons attacking Russ, since daemons aren’t impeded by the warp like material beings are.
Im not sure if Primarchs can "just dream". Perhaps they are the same as the Custodes, who only ever dream when the Emperor is trying to communicate with them.
The way I see it, if anyone knows Viking mythology, Odin stabbed himself on Yggdrasil with his spear in order to learn the secrets of the realms. In order for Russ to learn truth, he must stab himself with the spear gifted to him to see the “truth”. The biggest question is what truth?
What if, the Storm that Russ is in, is the warp storm that covers the galaxey now, the fire and pain is the war against the traitors still going on. If he was in Nurgles garden then when in the battle where Giliman set ablaze the garden that could bet the fire and pain part and also allowing him a cause to do what he needed to do and leave. But which rumor is true and which is not. All we know is Russ left to where we don't know 100%, but it was hinted that he went to the warp to either kill Magnus or try and redeem him, or to find a way to heal the Emperor. The hunt of Magnus to kill or to redeem has a little bit of ground for when the Wulfen returned Grimnar had either a vision or did see Russ while fighting after almost being killed.
I really want the lion series of books, which I hope is coming, ends with him finding the right question to ask the emperor when in his forest. "Where can I find Leman Russ"
It's a plot by Tzeentch, clearly. They fear the Russ wielding the spear, but thanks to these false visions, he will never wield it. It might not even be a false vision, since when he inevitably dies he may recognize the vision for what it is, and hold the relic in his hand one last time, too late, at the instant of his death as foretold...
I thought Ragnar threw the spear into the warp to keep Magnus from being summoned. Did it show up again or was it a different spear in the first place?
I remember reading that Ragnar used it to stop a Thousand Sons ritual and then was sent to get the spear back yes. Which he did. The spear, as far as I'm aware of, is at the Fang.
Bit of a Spoiler, magnus and the thousand sons did a ritual to turn the wolves into wolfen using the spear, it was foiled by Ragnar Blackmaine and the Wolfblade and the thirteenth company of the Space wolves. Presumably it's back on Garm.
@@AndyAshworth-h6w I read all the books but I thought Ragnar used it again against Magnus and it was lost unless I missed something. I'm going to have to re read the books again
The Emporer doesn't make mistakes?!! The Emporer is a moron. He may be ultra intelligent and powerful but if he was a D&D character, he would have a wisdom score of about 5. He's been so short sighted and obtuse it is mind boggling. I can elaborate if needed. But it seems obvious
Ragnar using the Dynosian Spear to banish Magnus and thereby losing it to the warp is definitely going to be the first step in how Russ, still in the warp, is going to eventually reacquire it to continue this prophecy. The Emperor already gave the Lion his own shield through warp shenanigans in Son of the Forest and I am sure if Russ doesn't find it on his own, the Emperor will aid in making sure the spear makes it back into his hands. I hope the Bequin series also plays into the story with Valdor apparently being hinted at returning. The Dyonisian and Apollonian spears, as well as the fates of their wielders, are obviously connected and it would only make sense for them to reappear around the same time, imo.

My personal pet theory is that Russ will return, aged and blinded, carrying the missing eye of Magnus and as a powerful Psyker (like Odin) and will take up the spear to stab the emperor. The revalation that the spear will give the emperor will return his fractured consciousness to its former state, allowing the return of the emperor, and Russ will take up the golden throne, combined with the eye as a shard of Magnus. That storm of the throne is what kills him, burning him out eventually like it did for Malcarder, but allowing the Emperor long enough to break Chaos's final push for terra.
