Forward planning is my worst according to my instructor, I hate to say it but I zone out in my lessons and tend to do things late. These videos are helping.
Good that you realise that, Driving requires 100% concentration to be safe. maybe ask your instructor to play some Sign seeing/ scanning games with you to help learn to you concentrate
@@ThinkDriving I've passed March 2020 so this reply is a bit late but yeah, it definitely gets better overtime. It kicks in naturally whenever I'm driving. Just keep at it people 100% better when you've passed!
If all drivers drove thinking safety first, my poor dad would have been alive today. Drivers think they own the road not realising they have a responsibility to all. Distance is key. I just dont know how to heal from losing my dad to this. Everything you've shown is what I do, and its tiring constantly looking for hazards but saving lives.
This was the last video I watched before heading out to go for my driving test today. it was my second attempt and I passed with three minors. This video definitely helped; thank you so much! :)
I have my fourth driving test tomorrow, I recently had to re-do my theory - as it expired - and I don't think i've ever known the roads as well as I do now. Hopefully this last minute cramming will do me well, and I can finally get that pink license :D
I live in the U.S. and have been driving for 26.5 years. In the last 24 hours I've had three close calls where I've realized I've been totally unaware of cars to my right an left. I don't know how I've become so careless. I want them to be wake-up calls. I've signed up for a defensive driving class, but I also decided to check out TH-cam. This video is excellent! I'm taking away three points that I don't remember being talked about when I learned to drive. I'm hoping I can discover more about them elsewhere on your channels. 1) "Check for Bob and Tom." Personifying potential people being on your right or left elevates the significance of the action of checking the right and the left. I'm going to talk myself through this as I'm driving for awhile. I think naming "Bob and Tom" will cause me to slow down a little more and be more deliberate. 2) The "Chin to Shoulder" check is something I've not heard described in that way. Love it. Makes it, again, more deliberate and thorough. This is another brilliant technique that I wasn't taught. 3) Pulling the parking break when slowing down for pedestrians seems like a little overkill, but I love, again, the mindfulness of the idea. Thank you very much for this very thoughtful, professional production. You'll save lives, I'm positive.
Hi, thanks for your feedback, I’m glad it’s helping you improve. I do hope the rest of the channel helps you with any other points you are looking to improve. Many thanks and safe driving
This becomes second nature after awhile, I do this without even thinking about it now after 30 years of driving :) I still learn new things though, never too old to learn more about driving
This video helped me to use my mirrors more often add that was what i kept missing especially looking at side mirrors in the direction i was taking in junctions. Thank you.
Love the video! Love how much effort you put in to help us understand!! Amazing work!! I’ve also watched all your other videos which have helped me out so much!!
Thank you so much. I'm having so much trouble with my awareness. My instructor says I'm a good driver but I need to perfect this otherwise I will not pass.

Thank you for your good clear flow. My driving instructor sent this to me, I will check out your other videos. I like driving but I dread the test cos I get nervous. Onwards!
This video is really helpful. It is useful to think about Bob and Tom. I never think like that but naming pedestrians make you more aware of them. Thanks for this video
Glad you like it, BOB is BOY On BIKE, who you are most likely to see on your left side, and TOM is TINA ON MOTORBIKE, again most likely to see them on your right side. Good luck with your test let us know how you get on with your test :)
Top stuff! Immensely helpful 🙏🏼. How to react when we are driving on left lane and ahead left merges into right and we see someone trying to squeeze past us? I would have slowed down to give way. And also when right merges into left ahead?
Who are BOB and TOM? ☺️ Maybe you could explain who Bob and Tom are, or what they mean, as not everyone watching will have heard of them? Thanks for mentioning them, it's the little things that I find useful in helping me learn. Perhaps you could do a video just/or mostly on useful driving acronyms? eg DSSSM MSM and so on. Your videos are extremely useful, thanks a lot.
Really good tutorial! It’s very clear and understandable. And I feel relaxed and confident watching this especially with all the information you see on the road so that’s pretty good! I’ll definitely check all your videos. Thanks!!
Can you please make a Video on Clutch control during a Start/Stop traffic Uphill? It is extremely difficult to prevent the Car from rolling backwards during that manoeuvre. I checked the other videos on your Channel but there is none on that particular Skill. Hill starts and the terror of Rolling backwards is easily a new driver's worst nightmare. Using parking breaks uphill when you have to Start/Stop every few seconds feels too uncomfortable and time consuming. Sometimes, even experienced drivers find it difficult not to Roll back on really steep hills.
So Long! If you watch the whole video is all about setting the gas and finding the bit then releasing the handbrake, the way you do this is the same on hills an in traffic. It’s all the same skill :)
@@ThinkDriving I understand. But what's different about Hills is the constant danger of Rolling backwards. There are 2 ways to creep forward. In heavy traffic, since the hand brake use takes time, it's suggested to use only Clutch and foot brake to control. In this method - when you move the foot from foot brake to Gas in those couple odd seconds, the Car can and does roll backwards. Imagine this in a Bumper to Bumper traffic! In the second method - With hand brakes, using Gas + Clutch + engaging the hand is way too time consuming and when I have to Start/Stop on a Hill in - say - every 5 seconds, then isn't it easy to get confused and make a mistake in pulling hand brake up and down a lot? Won't the quick and repeated push and pulls wear it down too much? Also, if all 3 (clutch+gas+hand brake) aren't perfectly aligned, in no time the car rolls backwards :(
@@nip2in as long as you have the bite correctly as shown in the video either using the hand brake or the foot brake, then you wont roll backwards. dont worry how longs thing take while you are learning before you know it you will do this skill quickly, for now just use the handbrake every time on a hill and before you know it you will be a hand brake ninja

Yes, you should always signal to leave a roundabout unless it’s going to be more misleading than helpful. Imagine if there was some pedestrians waiting to cross the road just off that first exit. If they saw us without a signal on they may think it’s safe to cross the road. So that’s part of awareness and anticipation :)
