Excellent as always! I find myself thinking about the concept of consciousness in modern life akin to having a national grid account in each home to power their appliances and homes. Although the power in each home or business are similar, like consciousness, we can’t discern any information about each other’s homes! Lol my personal way of understanding it!

"UPAADHI" is called Degree [graduate/post graduate] in Academics. Position [manager/officer/director/chairman] in organization, including family/society/state etcetera.
With such UPAADHI, responsibility and authority are associated for fulfilling specific Needs/Obligations as explained with the examples of Clay POTS.
Small Pot for LESS need and Big Pot for LARGE need requirements.

To classify certain phenomena and experiences as evil, an established ethical standard is required for making this determination. Some religions, particularly those based on a theistic model where God or the Creator is eternally separate from the individual or creation, have attempted this approach.
It appears that while attributing evil, particularly in contexts related to human action, to the outcomes of some individual “free agents,” the ultimate responsibility must be assigned to the Creator, either as an approver of these events or for creating the mere possibility of their occurrence. Swami seems to have resolved this logical inconsistency by characterising all actions as natural, that is, resulting from the infinite combinations or fluctuations of the gunas. Excellent lecture, thank you. Hari Om.

Hari Bol. There is one space only. It is not divide-able. The illusion of division is caused by upadhi. I believe this is what Swami calls super-imposition. We look at something as through the glasses and forget about the fact that the glass affects how the light hits our eyes. By the same token, we use concepts to superimpose some qualities onto the context they do not fit. But I am just a seeker. Hare Krsna.

Swami jee, Pranaam! It's a Blessing to listen to you. Please elaborate a little more on why so much evil exists in the world, when we're ALL born divine, and our underlying reality (Brahman) is conscious, eternal, and blissful? Atrocities and cruel acts toward human-beings, animals, birds, forests etc. are very common. While some can be explained as an act of desperation due to hunger & poverty. Greed and Sadism cannot be justified as natural. There are no two opinions or perspectives about them. But even in general, how come we are covered with so much ignorance to begin with? Seeking your light to grow my spirit! 🙏

Upadhi can be understood as "role" In hindi "UPadhi" is a an honorary title given to someone. Hence Pot is the Upadhi for clay that holds water. Table is the "upadhi" given to clay that performs the role of holding things at a hight. My understanding , I may be wrong of course.

    Dear Swamiji, namaste!
Thank you for the Vedantic wisdom!
Especially pleased with the jokes of your guru, made me laugh to tears.
The lecture is perfect, but I will give for seekers a few instructions from my guru Sri Ramana Maharshi:
    158. It is only the sight which is blind to the unlimited Self,
having veiled itself as "I am the body",
that also appears as the world before it.
    159. The life of the filthy ego, which mistakes a body both
as ‘I’ and as ‘my place’, is merely a false imagination
seen as a dream in the pure, real, Supreme Self.
    160. This fictitious jiva, who lives as ‘I [am the body]’,
is also one of the pictures on the screen.
1218. The screen, the unmoving base, alone is Brahman [or Self].
The soul, God and worlds are only the moving pictures
on that unmoving screen. [Therefore] know that all that is seen
[on that screen] is an illusion [maya].
    (Guru Vachaka Kovai)

i think nothing is false, everything is driven by thought (a strand of intelligence), result of imagination-direction given by intelligence, BUT everything is(exists)... though in temporary states, changing each moment... therefore the only measure of reality or illusion is factor of time and localized existence(limit of space).. but its not illusion or false, thats wrong translation.. its changing truth

    • @ustinovvadim2114

@@smausil Thank you for your interesting comment!
The last word-combination "changing truth" is very embarrassing, like a phrase from the lexicon of lawyers
who can turn the truth into a lie for money and vice versa. In Vedanta, the definition of the highest reality is very clearly given.
Sat is the immutable, self-existent, true essence or absolute spirit, Brahman. To comprehend the highest reality,
a description of the degrees of reality is given using examples of the manifested world.
True reality is only Brahman, conditional reality is the manifested world and all objects that arise in it,
ghostly reality is just a fantasy, like the horns of a hare.
A person at his conditional level of reality, not realizing his true nature, and deeply feeling detachment from the source
and longing for it, begins to create thought forms, how to perpetuate his body, with which he associates himself.
Builders and architects create grandiose buildings, Christians believe in the resurrection of bodies, Hindus in reincarnation,
you say that everything (all these forms) is, everything exists. Faith soothes without leading to ultimate truth.
But jnana comes to our rescue, which shows the false as false, and the truth as truth.
Maya is love for the little self, the ego. With the advent of love for the small self, space appears, and the whole world.
This is the primary stage of human stupidity. Through this love of the illusory self, one is caught in the net of samsara.
I conclude my answer with the words of Sri Ramana Maharshi:
Forgetting Self [Atman], which gives you [the seer] light to see,
and being confused, do not run after this appearance [the world which you see].
The appearance will disappear, and is hence not real, but Self, the source
of you [the seer], can never disappear, so know that That alone is real.
Fear not on seeing this empty world, which appears as a dream in the sleep of Self-forgetfulness.
This imaginary and bondage-causing world-picture, [projected on the background] of the dark, dense mind,
will not stand in the light of Supreme Knowledge, Sat-Chit-Ananda.
      OM TAT SAT
      ओम् तत् सत्

@@ustinovvadim2114 thanks. by 'changing truth'... i meant shiva taking various forms... forms change... shiva is truth... it meant same as changing forms of clay.... the form may be instant, but the clay is the truth... i hope you understand what i meant... is there anything which is NOT formed by the TRUE clay? if not, then why it is not the truth as well? the form changes, but underlying is the truth

    • @smausil
      @smausil 4 ปีที่แล้ว

not real, illusion, etc doesnt mean it doesnt exist... and if it exists its some level of truth... the only way to judge is, how long that form of truth lasts... cycles... this is why terms like kaal, mahakaal and kala bhairav are coined... but everything still actually exists, even your thoughts and dreams, though they dont stay the same the next instant, and they dont stay similar to themselves for long, and goes thru creation and destruction cycles... TIME itself is nothing but a notion for frequency of change. therefore CHANGE is a TRUTH, and what CHANGES is TRUTH, and the ultimate TRUTH never CEASES but CHANGES Forms

    • @smausil
      @smausil 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

every LIE spoken by every lawyer ever, was also TRUTH... it may not point towards logic, it may be ill intended, it may be to distract people... but the word spoken, the thought behind it and the voice generated, all existed, all formed of same shiva element, and in pure fundamental terms, it was TRUTH (temporary form of shiva)

  • @smausil
    @smausil 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Namaste, I have some points to clarify about jati varna ashram...
In my understanding they are NOT caste color and status, rather more fundamental
JATI = species you are born into. Which is determined by species already available on a certain planet, and you can be rat, snake, cow, human or even a small atom to begin with
VARNA = is color of your brain - manas - memories - inclinations, you might want to direct your JATI + BODY into a certain direction, and its not just a single direction, it may change as per circumstances. Varna is more like inclinations, internal priorities of the mind, based on memories imprints
ASHRAM = situations you will face in life, lifestyles you will adopt overall... its not just one of the four ashrams etc... they are just broad ideas or classifications. in truth, every person goes through individual own ashram at different stage, age of life, dependent on external situations.
    your inputs please
    humbly yours

    • @smausil
      @smausil 4 ปีที่แล้ว

there are more things to be determined... which planet you are born to, what resources you will have, what impact you will have on others, how much more intelligent you will become or make others, or opposites... so on...
in astrology there are three kinds of karma, drid, adrid and mixed... drid is bound to happen, mixed, may or may not happen depending on circumstances and influences of others, adrid are more in your had, free will if you can say
but EVERYTHING WORKS TOGETHER... these classifications are useful if not taken seriously upto the letter... nothing exist or operates without the other... therefor most important is to know how to dance with all, increasing - knowing, intelligence and grand inclusive self (sat chit anand)

Thanks dear Swamiji for this profound teaching!
Please allow me the following question: You said, as an answer to a question about the origin/reason of evil, that evil, either in form of natural events or human caused, is just natural and an arbitrary, subjective judgment and that human evil is born out of inclinations like hunger or greed. Correct?
This is traceable for your exemple of rain, what seems negative for someone who wants to walk outside, but positive for the farmer.
But what about torturing a baby? Is the sensation about the evilness of such a deed also really just a personal opinion and is it imaginable that there are people who rate this as neutral or even positive? Is really all relative and doesn't really exist something like an absolut definition of good and evil, anchored in a general conscience? So like the common sense, that stealing is bad and therefore forbidden in every country. If this wouldn't be the case, on which base countries establish laws, if all is relativ?
Second question, concerning to your statement, that (so called) evil deeds (if at all something like that exists in an absolut sense) are coming from inclinations like hunger, greed, fear or anger. What is the reason/origin of such tendencies?

Why the pot superimposed on to the clay? If the consciousness is one and only why there are so many different experiences? Is it the will of one consciousness? From where does the structure (shape of the bubble) of the pot come? Maybe consciousness is one of the tools that we all share but not the essence? Like two different machines using the electricity from the same source. They have a connection. They benefit from the same thing. But they are not the same.

Though I am very good at maintaining my thoughts about the body I inhabit from my immortal eternal self, the condition of the vessel still impacts the quality of the adventure because I cannot sense the separation of the two except at very quiet moments when I am aware that I am am watching my mind and the body that contains it. Consider a car. If I drive my Rolls Royce I have one experience, but if I drive my Nissan (which is much newer) I have a totally different experience. The overall quality of a ride in my RR is much nicer than in my Nissan. The two bodies are simply different. So how do I enjoy this body made by Nissan ( or maybe Yugoslav) that breaks down the same way I would enjoy a body made by Rolls Royce that never has troubles?

Similar. Think of software on a computer. The hard drive isn’t directly changed, and yet bc of a software download/update the computer can do new tasks.
The pure essence of consciousness is never truly changed, but different aspects are needed to have a human experience. The human parts are the upaadi/software.

OK. The body, the mind, and all that are upati [I have no idea how that's spelled] - conditioning adjuncts - on atman. So when we die, all our experiences, memories, etc. disappear and atman only remains.
Then what in the hell are we doing here? If its all going to disappear, what was the point? Sounds like the closest thing to atheism without being atheism: all we have is this life and when that's gone - what? No big deal? The real us, atman, continues on without our experiences, memories, and so on?
    Swami, that is
    so
    unappealing!
Better to put our hope in a God of incomprehensible love, who knows the whys and wherefores of all that occurs, and who so loved us that He entered into this world of woe so that we could imitate Him by bearing our sufferings for the love of Him and be eternally happy with Him, with all our memories and experiences forever and ever. Amen! w
p.s. I'm guessing Advaita Vedanta was always for the aristocrats. The bottom 90% were too busy raising food for their king, the nobility, the army, and the priests. I reckon it still is for the equivalent in today's world. All this philosophizing can hardly have been meant for peasants scratching out a living.

@Truth Speaker OK. That's cool. I still maintain, however, that Advaita Vedanta is as close as you can get to atheism without being an atheist.
Check it out: our perceptions, minds are not the real us. The real us is observing all these thoughts feelings, perceptions. It turns out, they say, the real us is God (pure awareness, cosmic consciousness, mind-at-large) observing all those thoughts, perceptions, etc.
So when "we" die, what happens? God, of course, is eternal. He is going nowhere. But where do I, the real I, which is supposed to be the same as pure awareness observing the mind and body, - where does the real I go? Disappear?

@Truth Speaker Let me put it another way: we have no personal identity. If the real I is pure awareness observing and experiencing through me, then when I die, I disappear - pure awareness carries on, of course, observing and experiencing through 7+ billion other human instruments. Unless I'm missing something, that is exactly what Advaita Vedanta teaches.

the secret word is 'witness'... a drishtant(thought experiment)... imagine you are in deepest of sleeps, you dont know that you exist, and a feather rubs your feet... a small sensation... wakes you up a tiny bit... but its enough to make you unable to go back to sleep... you get more and more sensations, from various sources, and you start becoming more and more awake... finally you jump out of the bed, totally awake, and laugh it all off, and... go back to deepest of sleeps... cycles goes on timelessly, though each cycle is timed in its limited existence

@@davidjohnzenocollins I think, don't take advaita vedanta, or any other spiritual book too seriously, unless you can experience something yourself... the word is not the thing... whatever advaita vedanta teachers is not the real enlightment, but it nudges you towards finding it... In all that I have read and gone thru, I feel that advaita vedanta texts and some jnana tantra texts are most profound... there are no GODs to worship here, but REALITY to discover

@Truth Speaker There seems to be a contradiction there. If it's atman=brahman inside of us observing thoughts, feelings, and perceptions, then there is no room for a personal soul capable of being reincarnated. If there is a personal soul observing thoughts, feelings, etc., then where does the atman=brahman come in?
