In 1985, I bought a couple of Patagonia Parkas, Jackets, tops, and so on that I would be able to wear in any environment you can imagine from -15 F and above. I'm now 61 and just about everything I bought is still going strong. It's insane to think that I still have them and most people have no idea that they're that old. In 1985, my waterproof goretex H2O no parka cost me $365.00 USD which seemed like a lot then, but I've saved a few thousand by not needing to replace it. If you're smart, you'll choose wisely and buy Patagonia.
Price per wear is what I use when I purchase more expensive items. When it is classic and wears for a long time, it tends to actually cost less in the long run.
Now that I make better money, I've taken the buy once, cry once philosphy to heart. I've used this on a number of occasions and end up saving more overall in product satisfaction for the quality and use of the item and also for the cost-per-wear. Its better to do that then constantly replace the thing or looking for the "next best thing" since you're not completely satisfied with the first item.
Well , I cold wash north face and Columbia gear, and then dry them flat . They look new for at least 4-5 years and are wearable well after a decade. Most people hot wash and throw in the dryer.. The question is if they last after that .
I just started buying Patagonia stuff because of their warranty. Super satisfied, so far. You’re right about the longevity of better clothing. I have several Marmot jackets that are 11 years old and look brand new. I only bought new ones this year because I just felt like having new jackets. I easily could get another 5 possibly 10 years out of a couple $300 jackets.
Smart thinking. I live in a hot place and only own one sweater which I bought over 20 years ago. It’s been worn 4 times. Each time on a plane! I think it’s important to buy quality shoes too.
Totally true. I've bought new since 1997 and used through Wornwear since 2018 and is undestructible, durable in quality and in design. I got an Iron Forge hemp jacket 5 years ago and looks great.
Great video, I totally agree with what you say. Have a old black fleece from Northface that I bought in 1999. I was totally miffed that the elastic band gave out last week 😂 but it was the inner rubber not the fabric covering it that had totally gone brittle at several places as happens to old rubber. Having said that, fleece and leather hiking shoes totally last forever. Pants, socks, shirts etc not so much.
I agree 💯 % with you! I also buy Arcteryx. I have a synthetic Patagonia hoody that I think they actually called a sweater, didn’t understand why BUT I’ve had it for approximately 12 years and it STILL has zero issues with stitching, unlike one of my dish jackets always losing feathers which is very annoying considering the price point of my Arcteryx down.
Now I’m buying more and more Patagonia, I’ve been obsessed recently relocated to Colorado from Miami and never needed functional clothing; my favorite piece is 1999 synchilla full zip or my 100% lambs wool sweater; keeps me so warm
their prices have held pretty stable with inflation and patagonia is about the same price as marmot, ll bean, north face, carhartt. It all comes with lifetime warranty and repairs with patagonia though. even their used clothes come with the warranty, and they throw all their end of season stuff and returns on the used website (worn wear). The better sweater wont shrink in the dryer because its synthetic, its not recommended but its totally fine to dry even on high it wont shrink. the better sweaters do pill over time though but can be shaved
Even if you find Patagonia for less money it’s still pricey af. But I’m with you all the way on Patagonia. My experience with them mirrors yours and I have 10-15 year old garments still going strong. Probably even older!
I live far up in the Canadian north. 95% of my clothing is Patagonia, Arctyrex and North Face. My absolute favourites are my Patagonia set. I will only buy Patagonia from now on, especially after reading how environmentally conscious they try to be.
Imo Patagonia quality is top notch. Everything more expensive than that you are paying for the brand . I cannot imagine anything else being better than my Bettersweater or nano jackets plus my parka.
Surprised Patagonia has never adopted for their advertising the saying, usually attributed to Charlie Munger, that “Price is what you pay, but value is what you get.”
The concept you’re speaking on has been known by those who build their wealth. Same concept applies to food and your body. Buy cheap junk food- pay high health insurance. Buy slightly priced higher, but healthy, food- save on health bills.
Bought gear for more than 1000£ all failed on me they have not been outdoors ever .. not patagonia but reputable brands "tried and tested" outdoors .... what a joke.
We are a cryptocurrency project and want to find you for advertising business cooperation. If you are interested, you can talk about the specific details in detail.
Rab , mountain equipment, Arcteryx , Patagonia these are all the outdoor brands I wear quality gear that lasts I found over the years these are the best fit for me and they don’t date Yellow R1 hoody and a pair of hiking trousers point peak two of my favourite Patagonia pieces 🏔️

For what it’s worth, I’ve been wearing my Patagonia Retro X fleece jacket for over 23 years now.
Although 23 years ago it would have just been called the X fleace 😃
That makes it retro retro x
This is the best and purest English, I have ever heard in my life...
Us English… how is this pure English? It’s heavily accented
@@hmu05366There is no English without accent.
Heavy American accent. I don't find this 'pure' English (it's not a bad thing).
Yes so true buy the better quality every thing and in the long run you will save 😊

I adopted this philosophy couple years ago. Hence why I chose Patagonia. :)
You have a classic radio voice.

What you are trying to say is that as you have moved up to a more age appropriate clothing and economic status.
Been switching my clothing over from mostly cotton, synthetics and cotton-synthetic blends. To wool, synthetics, and wool-synthetic blends.

20/yr/guide, environmental/eco not hunting, in Denali National Park, AK. Patagonia is my pick and I actually use the gear.

I've been wearing the same pair or patagonia Retro X fleece socks for 90 years now.

It also depends on how clothing is looked after. I have a no name $10 jacket that has lasted me over 20 years and still going

Patagonia jackets are the best, you can't wear them out , in Montana the jackets keep me warm
Surprised Patagonia has never adopted for their advertising the saying, usually attributed to Charlie Munger, that “Price is what you pay, but value is what you get.”
It’s like buying a Dyson. It’s worth the investment

Hey 4… eye man everybody is not like u ok man
I’ve had two Patagonia jackets for 18 and 20 years respectively. I won’t buy cheaper products they are inferior. They stand by their products.
