The Haggler found himself a 2007 Suzuki ltz400 sport quad to buy for $1000. After charging the battery, draining the old gas, and replacing the spark plug... we were able to get this beast to run again. We will soon be putting this quad up against a 400ex and a raptor 660 to see which is fastest.

I absolutely love my ltz 400! I have a 2005! stage 1 hot cams, velocity intake, Dyna-tek Rev box, and ignition coil, hmf pipe, aftermarket header, and jetted carb! she's running!
Do they still make the 2 stroke quadracers anymore?
Carrier bearings were known to go bad in those, same with the linkage and swingarm bearings. I don't know what year that is but I know on my old 03 the frames used to crack right above the top front shock mounts. Gusset kit saves it. Just a Little FYI for you guys. Those ltzs were awesome quads, can't kill em.
all bearings go in any quad if neglected, like 75% 0f the quads out there hanging together from neglect. people think buy Japanese and just change the oil, if even, she'll never break. most quads are mistreated

on my 2006 kfx 400 i dont need to pull in the clutch to start, but on my buddies 2004 ltz 400 you have to, its something wierd on the ltz even though they have the same motor

i have a drz400sm, its the same motor in that quad with some small differences. those motors are cold natured, and yes it has a carburetor. pretty bulletproof engine.
also i would check if it has been re jetted, putting on a pipe you definitely need a rejet.

This video just made my day. When I bought my ltz400 i passed through the same problems, exept that mine had a valve head and cams damaged, which I had to pay $500 to fix it. But this Quad is awesome, here in Puerto Rico their minimum price is $1300 and running. $1000 would be dead or broken. Great buy man, enjoy your machine! :)

My 07 ltz 400 is just a bit cleaner around the engine no rub marks on the frame from boots..just had to have rear brakes and carb cleaned...they are beasts

Pull the seal out of the sealed bearings (for the rear axle) then drill 2 holes in the carrier and put grease fittings, as long it's always packed with grease it's will virtually last forever. I did that to 2 of my warriors about to do it to my 3rd one. Keep up the great vids love watching them!

i love two strokes dearly for their unmatched power to weight/size and displacement ratio, ( dont forget when that vtec kicks in yo) but they require extra care and wear out much quicker than 4 strokes, dont have as much consistent torque and stuff as 4 strokes, i fell like 4 strokes make better trail bikes and 2 strokes make better race pit bikes, i personally wouldnt mind either but i would probably go for a 4 stroke long term

Even if it needs some work, it's a solid deal. That's a good $2500+ quad here in Texas. I sold a 2001 400ex needing a carb rebuild, tires, and ball joints for $1500.
I'm over here waiting for tge chain to jump and smack the engine case so he has to buy new $300+ engine cases lmao.
I had the exact same quad, 06 but looked identical, rebuilt the top end with a 440 big bore kit. Then one day I was doing 80 mph and the damn chain slipped off the rear sprocket and binded up around the front sprocket breaking the case saver and I guess there was so much force it ripped out every gear besides 1st and 2nd. :(

Time for a new timing chain. I've done this three times now. The slight ticking sound is the timing chain getting out of adjustment. Not a hard fix but don't let it slop to much. Adjust the timing chain tensioner. See if you have any more adjustment.

dellstudio10 thanks. I'm getting ready to change the cylinder head because it's really worn down and has some rust. Everything runs fine but I'd rather have everything new than to take a risk with worn parts; plus there's no shop close to me that redo Atv motors.
Kendricks Hayes Jr Sounds like you know what you're doing. Shops charge ridiculously high rates for labor. Quads aren't to complicated. With a little research, repair manual and know how you shouldn't have a problem repairing em. Do you plan on flipping it or keeping it to ride? I buy quads and bike's that need a little work. Then I'll repair em and sell em for a small profit. That way I always have something new to ride.
the rear end is loose, that's what the noise is. check your carrier bearings. your chain is a little loose too. but great find!!

you guys should get a Yamaha banshee 350 next those things can take a raptor 700 if you drive it right and its the best quad for tuning and modifications
I have the same exact problem with my 06 ltz.. when I first got her she used to start right up. Nowadays it takes 10 minutes to crank and it's such a pain. I hear the petcocks go bad on the ltz's too. They wear out and put out not enough fuel. So I'm figuring that could be my very problem. Putting them on prime could sometimes fix the problem too.
MXYAMA44 I had the same problem with mine bud. Just order a regular Yamaha Raptor 660 replacement fuel petcock off of Amazon for around $22.00. I replaced mine in 15 minutes and bam, no more hard starts and she was getting fed plenty of fuel to run perfectly.

MXYAMA44 I forgot to mention that you'll have to cap off the port on the carb where the vacuum line running from the fuel petcock was attached to. It's an important step so it doesn't suck in dirt/air and run lean. I used a snug fitting rubber vacuum block off cap and never had any problems. Good luck, you'll be glad you changed it!

you guys really going to love when you find out it's a chrome moly cylinder and when you want to upgrade your piston or needs to be bored out and you can't just do it you have to replace the whole cylinder and instead of costing few hundred bucks it just cost you another couple thousand
you have to put the fuel on prime if its been sittin for a while

You guys do yoru selfs a HUGE favor. Go on amazon. Buy a 18000mah portable jump starter. It can also charge your cell phone like 20 times. It is perfect for the truck or starting bikes. This has saved me so many times im not kidding. These atv batterys sit draw and die like nothing. mine costed like 70 bucks but there on there for 50 bucks all day long. Trust me its worth it.
